Here is the weekly review of the top performing Israeli players, who play currently abroad.


Yuval Naimy

   #1. This week's number one is an international point guard Yuval Naimy (188-85, currently plays in Eurocup). He led his Russian team Triumph Lyubertsy to an overtime victory over the closely-ranked Artland Dragons 95-94 in the Eurocup in Wednesday night's game. Naimy was MVP of the game. He scored 26 points (!!!) and added 6 passes in 35 minutes on the court. Triumph Lyubertsyis placed fourth in group I. It's Naimy's first season with the team. Naimy has relatively good stats this year: 11.2ppg, 2.0rpg, 2.5apg, 2FGP: 36.0%, 3FGP: 46.9%(15-32) in the six games he played so far. He is currently a member of the Israeli senior national team.

   #2. Second place goes to former U20 international guard Oded Brandwein (186-88, agency: N.E.T., currently plays in Poland), who plays in the Polish TBL. Brandwein could not help one of league's weakest teams Energa Czarni (8-5) in their last game on Sunday. Despite his very good performance Energa Czarni was defeated 98-89 at home by the higher-ranked Stelmet ZG (#5). Brandwein was the second best scorer with 17 points. He also added 9 passes. This season Brandwein averages: 6.2ppg, 2.5apg, 2FGP: 32.1%, 3FGP: 34.8% and FT: 90.9%(20-22). He has a dual citizenship: Israeli and Polish. Former Elitzur Yavne starter played for the Israeli U20 national team in 2008.

Robert Rothbart

   #3. The Israeli player who performed third best last week abroad was an international center Robert Rothbart (217-86, agency: INVICTUS Sports Group, currently plays in Poland). He contributed to a 1-point Start Gdynia's victory against the fourth-ranked Asseco Prokom Gdynia (8-4) 81-80 in a derby game in the Polish TBL in Sunday night's game. Rothbart scored 9 points and grabbed 7 rebounds. KS Start Gdynia (4-8) is placed ninth in the TBL. This season Rothbart has relatively solid stats: 13.5ppg, 7.3rpg, 1.1bpg, 1.2spg, 2FGP: 57.1%(56-98) and FT: 63.8%. He is another player who holds two passports: Bosnia and Herzegovina and Israeli. Ex-Hapoel Galil Elyon player is also a member of the Israeli senior national team.

Alex Tyus

   #4. Center Alex Tyus (205-88, college: Florida, currently plays in Euroleague) was not able to help Cantu in their game against Fenerbahce Ulker (0-0) in the Euroleague. Tyus did not have that impressive stats last Thursday. He recorded only 3 points in 8 minutes on the court. Cantu lost 69-77 on the road to the lower-ranked (#6) Fenerbahce Ulker. This year Tyus' overall stats are: 8.1ppg and 3.7rpg in the 10 games. He is a naturalized American. Tyus is also Israeli national team player. He used to play for Maccabi Ashdod in Israeli league.

   #5. U20 international center Jeremiah Kreisberg (208-92, currently plays college basketball in the States) led Yale to an easy victory against the Albertus Magnus (2-0) crushing them 112-63 in a derby game in the NCAA in Tuesday night's game. He recorded 11 points and grabbed 5 rebounds in only a mere 14 minutes. The Yale University has conference record this season. Kreisberg has reliable stats this year: 12.3ppg, 3.6rpg, 7.1apg and 1.4spg in the 14 games. He is a naturalized American. Kreisberg used to play for the Israeli U20 national team last year. Strangely he has never played in Israel.

   #6. Shooting guard Yotam Halperin (193-84, currently plays in Germany) managed to help FC Bayern Muenchen to win against the 13th-ranked Walter Tigers (5-8) crushing them 107-80 in the German BBL last Saturday. Halperin recorded only 1 points and added 3 assists. FC Bayern Muenchen (7-6) is placed seventh in the BBL. Halperin's total stats this season are: 6.5ppg, 2.3rpg, 3.1apg and 1.3spg. He is an international player who is currently on the senior Israeli National Team roster.


The list of other players, who all have Israeli passport but never been selected to any of Israeli national teams:

   #1. Jason Thomas (191-G-82, college: American, currently plays in Sweden) led Boras Basket to a victory over the closely-ranked Norrkoping Dolphins (10-7) 99-85 in the Swedish Basketligan on Sunday night. Thomas was the best player in that game. He scored 26 points (!!!) in 36 minutes. It was the game of the round between two top 4 ranked teams. Boras Basket (13-5) is placed second in the Basketligan. This year Thomas has relatively solid stats: 12.4ppg, 6.9rpg, 2.2apg and 1.1spg in the 18 games he played so far. He is a naturalized American. Thomas used to play for Ironi Kfar Hamaccabia Ramat Gan in Israeli league.

   #2. Guy Aud (188-G-89, currently plays in Germany), who plays in the German ProA (second division) could not help Finke Baskets (6-8) in their last game on Saturday. Despite his good performance Finke Baskets was defeated 68-63 on the road by the leading BG Karlsruhe. Aud scored 10 points, grabbed 4 rebounds and dished 4 assists. Aud is ranked second on the list of the best passers in the league. He has very reliable stats this season: 12.3ppg, 3.6rpg, 7.1apg and 1.4spg. Aud has a dual citizenship: Israeli and German. Worth to mention Aud played also at Eurobasket Summer League, which helped him get the job in pro basketball.

   #3. Haran Shifman (183-G-84, currently plays in Poland) contributed to an easy victory against the closely-ranked Spojnia (6-9) 74-56 in the Polish 1Liga (second division) on Saturday night. He scored 7 points in 15 minutes. MKS Budimpex Polonia Przemysl (7-8) is placed ninth in the 1Liga. This year Shifman's total stats are: 9.0ppg, 1.7rpg and 4.0apg in the 10 games. He is another player who holds two passports: Israeli and Polish. Shifman attended previously one of camps at Eurobasket Summer League on his way to pro basketball.

Maccabi Tel Aviv - Panathinaikos 90:88 Maccabi Tel Aviv claimed the spot in the Gomelsky Cup Final. They nipped Panathinaikos in the semifinal clash in Moscow. Maik Zirbes (208-C-90, agency: BeoBasket) produced 21 points for the Israeli powerhouse. Maccabi jumped to a 27:21 lead ten minutes into the game. Ironi Kfar Hamaccabia Ramat Gan (National League) strengthened their roster with addition of experienced 36-year old naturalized American small forward Jermaine Hall (196-80, college: Wagner). He has played for the last two years at Maccabi Ashdod in the Winner League. Winner League was a little too high level for him, where in 27 Winner League games he recorded just 1.3ppg and 1.0rpg last season. Ironi Kfar Hamaccabia Ramat Gan (National League) strengthened their roster with addition of 26-year old Virgin Islander international forward Ivan Aska (201-104kg-90, college: Murray State, agency: Comsport). He has a double citizenship as he also holds U.S. Virgin Islands passport. Aska played most recently at Ironi Nes-Ziona in Israeli Winner League.
