D1 Round 10: Elitzur Netanya beats Elitzur Ramla by one after a very close game - Jan 1, 2013

The most exciting game of round 10 in the D1 took place in Netanya. This derby game ended with only one-point defeat on the road of much higher ranked Elitzur Ramla (6-3) to eighth ranked Elitzur Netanya (3-6) 76-75 on Monday evening. It ended at the same time the five-game winning streak of Elitzur Ramla. The hosts trailed by 16 points after first quarter, but they rallied back and won the game by 1 point. Elitzur Netanya forced 23 Elitzur Ramla turnovers. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 26 assists. American players dominated the game. Worth to mention a great performance of forward Courtney Hurt (185-90, college: VCU) who helped to win the game recording a double-double by scoring 22 points and 11 rebounds. Swingman Katelan Redmon (185-88, college: Gonzaga, agency: Veracity Sports, LLC) contributed with 16 points, 5 rebounds and 7 assists for the winners. Center Kaayla Chones (191-81, college: N.Carolina St.) replied with 18 points and 8 rebounds for Elitzur Ramla. Elitzur Netanya moved-up to sixth place, which they share with Elitzur Holon and Hap.Petah Tikva. Elitzur Ramla at the other side keeps the second position with three games lost. They share it with Ramat Hasharon. Elitzur Netanya will have a break next round, and it should allow them to practice more before next game. Elitzur Ramla will play at home against Galil Elion in Kfar Blum and is hoping to win this game.
Important game to mention about took place in Kfar Blum. Seventh ranked Elitzur Holon (3-6) saved a 3-point victory on the road edging one of their biggest challengers Galil Elion (4-5) 77-74 on Monday evening. American players dominated also this game. Guard Alexis Hornbuckle (180-85, college: Tennessee) scored 23 points, 8 rebounds, 4 assists and 4 steals to lead the charge for the winners and Kerri Gardin chipped in 12 points and 5 rebounds during the contest. At the losing side point guard Sydney Carter (167-90, college: Texas A&M, agency: Ronsport) responded with 27 points and 6 assists. Elitzur Holon moved-up to sixth place, which they share with Hap.Petah Tikva and Elitzur Netanya. Galil Elion lost third consecutive game. They dropped to the fifth position with five games lost. Elitzur Holon will play against Hap.Petah Tikva (#6) at home in the next round. Galil Elion will play against the league's second-placed Elitzur Ramla and hopes to get back on the winning track.
D1 top team - Maccabi Ashdod (9-0) managed to deliver another win on Monday. This time they beat ninth ranked Hapoel Rishon Le-Zion (2-7) 82-69. It ended at the same time the two-game winning streak of Hapoel Rishon Le-Zion. Americans were the main players on the court. Charde Houston notched 21 points, 9 rebounds and 5 assists to lead the effort. Maccabi Ashdod's coach used a ten-player rotation which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Even 24 points, 5 rebounds and 5 assists by Tiffany Hayes did not help to save the game for Hapoel Rishon Le-Zion. Undefeated Maccabi Ashdod have an impressive eight-game winning streak. Defending champion maintains first position with 9-0 record. Loser Hapoel Rishon Le-Zion stay at the bottom place with seven games lost. Maccabi Ashdod will meet Ramat Hasharon (#3) on the road in the next round, which may be the game of the day. Hapoel Rishon Le-Zion will have a break next round.
The game in Petah Tikva was also worth to mention about. Third ranked Ramat Hasharon (6-3) played at the court of 6th ranked Hap.Petah Tikva (3-6). Ramat Hasharon managed to secure a 7-point victory 71-64. Alysha Clark fired a double-double by scoring 15 points and 11 rebounds (made all of her eight free throws) for the winners. Ramat Hasharon have a solid three-game winning streak. They moved-up to second place, which they share with Elitzur Ramla. Hap.Petah Tikva lost fifth consecutive game. They keep the sixth position with six games lost. Ramat Hasharon's next round opponent will be league's leader Maccabi Ashdod at home and it will be for sure the game of the week. Hap.Petah Tikva will play against Elitzur Holon (#8) and it may be a tough game between close rivals.

The most impressive performance of 10th round was 23 points and 5 rebounds by Ashley Shields of Maccabi Ashdod.


Elitzur Netanya - Elitzur Ramla 76-75

Galil Elion - Elitzur Holon 74-77

Important game to mention about took place in Kfar Blum. Seventh ranked Elitzur Holon (3-6) saved a 3-point victory on the road edging one of their biggest challengers Galil Elion (4-5) 77-74 on Monday evening. It looked good early as Galil Elion took an 10-point lead at the end of first quarter. But then Elitzur Holon had a 25-14 second period charge getting the lead and Galil Elion was not able to take back game control losing it eventually 74-77. Elitzur Holon forced 21 Galil Elion turnovers and outrebounded them 41-29 including a 17-6 advantage in offensive rebounds. It was a great shooting night for Elitzur Holon especially from behind the arc, where they had solid 57.1 percentage. American players dominated also this game. Guard Alexis Hornbuckle (180-85, college: Tennessee) scored 23 points, 8 rebounds, 4 assists and 4 steals to lead the charge for the winners and forward Kerri Gardin (186-84, college: Virginia Tech, agency: Regeneracom Sports) chipped in 12 points and 5 rebounds during the contest. The game in Petah Tikva was also worth to mention about. Third ranked Ramat Hasharon (6-3) played at the court of 6th ranked Hap.Petah Tikva (3-6).
