27-year old shooting guard Ashley Shields (180-SG-85) had a very impressive game in the last round for league's best team Maccabi Ashdod and receives a Eurobasket.com Player of the Week award for round 10. She had the game-high 23 points adding five rebounds and two assists for Maccabi Ashdod in her team's victory, helping them to beat H.R. Le-Zion (#9, 2-7) 82-69. It allowed Maccabi Ashdod to consolidate first place in the Israeli D1. They maintain perfect record without any lost game in the league. It's already very far into the season and Maccabi Ashdod keeps perfect 9 -0 record. It's Shields' second year at Maccabi Ashdod and it's hard to imagine this team without her. SW Tennessee State CC graduate has very impressive stats this year. Shields is in league's top in points (3rd best: 21.1ppg), assists (3rd best: 4.9apg) and averages solid 3.8spg,59.1% FGP and 40.9% from behind 3-point line.
Second best performed player last round was Charde Houston (185-F-86, agency: LBM Management). She is American forward in her first season at Maccabi Ashdod. In the last game Houston recorded impressive 21 points, 9 rebounds and 5 assists. Of course together with Shields she helped Maccabi Ashdod with another comfortable win 82-69 over the lower-ranked H.R. Le-Zion (#9, 2-7) being unquestionably team leader. Of course Maccabi Ashdod still keep the league's top spot. She plays for the best team in the league and Maccabi Ashdod managed to win all 9 games keeping perfect record. Houston is a newcomer at Maccabi Ashdod and quickly became one of team's most reliable players. She belongs to the best scorers in the league with 18.0ppg (#8). She also registered 7.3 boards per game.
Third place about best performers goes to guard Tiffany Hayes (177-G-89) of H.R. Le-Zion (#9). Hayes showcased her all-around game by recording 24 points, five rebounds and five assists in the last round. Despite Hayes' great performance H.R. Le-Zion lost 69-82 to the league's current leader Maccabi Ashdod (#1, 9-0). But her team cannot count on just a single player as she also needs help of the other teammates. H.R. Le-Zion can only dream about fighting for top spots in the league. They have extremely bad season and 2-7 record places them at the very bottom of the standings. Too bad for Hayes she does not play for a better team. But maybe if she did, her season stats would not be that high. Hayes has individually a great season in Israel. After only 9 games, she made it on the list of the league's leaders in points with 19.0ppg (5th best).
Other top performing players last week: 4. Sydney Carter (167-PG-90) of Galil Elion - 27 points, 2 rebounds and 6 assists 5. Courtney Hurt (185-F-90) of Elitzur Netanya - 22 points and 11 rebounds 6. Vanessa Gidden (193-C/F-85) of Hap.Petah Tikva - 20 points, 9 rebounds and 3 assists 7. Danielle Adams (185-F/C-89) of Maccabi Ashdod - 10 points, 10 rebounds and 3 assists 8.
