Seventh-ranked Ironi Ramat Gan (8-6) was very close to win a game against first ranked Ironi Nes-Ziona (12-2) in Nes Ziyona on Thursday. Ironi Nes-Ziona managed to secure only one-point victory 61-60. However their fans expected much easier game. Ironi Nes-Ziona maintains first position with 12-2 record. Ironi Ramat Gan at the other side keeps the seventh place with six games lost. Ironi Nes-Ziona are looking forward to face Beer Yaakov (#10) on the road in the next round and are hoping to win another game. Ironi Ramat Gan will play against Hod Hasharon and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
Very important is a road loss of second ranked Hapoel Afula (10-4) against twelfth ranked Elitzur Ramla (4-10) on Wednesday night. Visiting Hapoel Afula was defeated by Elitzur Ramla in a tough game in Ramla 68-72. It ended at the same time the two-game winning streak of Hapoel Afula. American players dominated the game. Guard Vernon Teel (193-87, college: Loyola Mary, agency: FCM) had a double-double by scoring 22 points, 16 rebounds and 5 assists to lead the charge for the winners and Johndre Jefferson chipped in 10 points and 11 rebounds during the contest. Forward Allen Durham (198-88, college: Grace Bible) responded with a double-double by scoring 16 points and 11 rebounds. Elitzur Ramla moved-up to eleventh place, which they share with Kiryat Tivon. Hapoel Afula at the other side dropped to the third position with four games lost. They share it with Hod Hasharon and Elitzur Yavne. Elitzur Ramla will play against bottom-ranked Maccabi Kiryat Bialik (#14) on the road in the next round. Hapoel Afula will play against Ironi Kiryat Ata (#6) and hopes to get back on the winning track.
The game in Kfar Saba supposed to be also quite interesting. Third ranked Ironi Nahariya (11-3) played at the court of 8th ranked Hapoel Kfar Saba (5-9). Ironi Nahariya smashed Hapoel Kfar Saba 99-72 on Wednesday. Aviram Zelkovits notched 22 points and 6 rebounds (on 10-of-12 shooting from the field) to lead the effort. Even 21 points, 5 assists and 4 steals by Adir Harush did not help to save the game for Hapoel Kfar Saba. The winner was already known earlier in the game, so both coaches allowed to play the bench players saving starting five for next games. Ironi Nahariya have an impressive six-game winning streak. They moved-up to second place. Hapoel Kfar Saba lost third consecutive game. They dropped to the ninth position with nine games lost. They share it with Macc.B.Yaakov. Ironi Nahariya will meet Maccabi K/G (#13) in the next round which should be another easy win for them. Hapoel Kfar Saba will play against Elitzur Yavne (#4) and hope to secure a win.

There were no big surprises in other games of round 14: Macc.B.Yaakov was beaten by Ironi K-A on the road 80-68. Hod Hasharon destroyed Maccabi K/G on its own court 98-75. Kiryat Tivon unfortunately lost to Elitzur Yavne in a road game 76-92. Hapoel Kazrin managed to beat Maccabi K/B at home 114-108.
The most impressive performance of 14th round was 35 points (!!!) and 17 rebounds by Gary Johnson of Hapoel Kazrin.



Ironi Nes-Ziona - Ironi Ramat Gan 61-60

No shocking result in a game when sixth ranked Ironi Kiryat Ata (9-5) beat at home 10th ranked Beer Yaakov (5-9) 80-68 on Wednesday. The game was mostly controlled by Ironi Kiryat Ata. Beer Yaakov managed to win second period 28-24. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. Ironi Kiryat Ata dominated down low during the game scoring 52 of its points in the paint compared to Beer Yaakov's 32. Ironi Kiryat Ata forced 22 Beer Yaakov turnovers. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 22 assists comparing to just 8 passes made by Beer Yaakov's players. American point guard Darrin Govens (185-88, college: St.Joseph's) notched 23 points and 6 assists to lead the effort and the former international power forward Chris Watson (200-75, college: Niagara) supported him with 19 points. Even 21 points and 9 rebounds by American guard Joshua Alexander (193-87, college: SF Austin) did not help to save the game for Beer Yaakov. Naturalized Russian guard Igor Simin (197-84, agency: Avi Zilberman) added 19 points and 5 rebounds for the guests. Both coaches used bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Ironi Kiryat Ata have a solid three-game winning streak. They maintain sixth position with 9-5 record. Loser Beer Yaakov dropped to the ninth place with nine games lost. They share the position with Hapoel K/S. Very expected game when 13th ranked Maccabi K/G (3-11) was smashed on the road by fifth ranked Hod Hasharon (10-4) 98-75 on Wednesday. The game was mostly controlled by Hod Hasharon. Maccabi K/G managed to win fourth quarter 27-24. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. They outrebounded Maccabi K/G 44-32 including 32 on the defensive glass. Nigerian power forward Chukwudinma Odiakosa (203-85, college: Illinois St., agency: N.E.T.) notched a double-double by scoring 29 points and 15 rebounds (perfect from the field making all fourteen shots !!!) to lead the effort and forward Offir Hover (198-90) supported him with 14 points and 7 rebounds. Four Hod Hasharon players scored in double figures. Hod Hasharon's coach Roy Hagai felt very confident that he used entire bench which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Even a double-double of 21 points and 13 rebounds by American forward Lenny Daniel (203-87, college: CS Northridge) did not help to save the game for Maccabi K/G. His fellow American import swingman Muhammad El Amin (196-87, college: Stony Brook, agency: Two Points) added 24 points for the guests. Hod Hasharon moved-up to third place, which they share with Elitzur Yavne and Hapoel Afula. Maccabi K/G lost fifth consecutive game. Newly promoted team keeps the thirteenth position with 11 games lost. Hod Hasharon will meet Ironi Ramat Gan (#7) on the road in the next round.
