Johnson's double-double lands him National League Player of the Week award - Jan 28, 2013

Gary Johnson
24-year old forward Gary Johnson (198-F-88) had a great game in the last round for Hapoel Kazrin and receives a Eurobasket.com National League Player of the Week award for round 14.
He had a double-double of 35 points and 17 rebounds, while his team beat Maccabi K/B (#14, 1-13) 114-108. Hapoel Kazrin is placed at 8th position in Israeli National League. Hapoel Kazrin is a typical solid league team placed somewhere in the middle or a little bit lower in the standings. They need more victories to improve their 6-8 record. Johnson turned to be Hapoel Kazrin's top player in his first season with the team. The University of Texas graduate has very impressive stats this year. Johnson is in league's top in points (8th best: 19.0ppg) and averages solid 53.9% FGP.

Second best performed player last round was Chukwudinma Odiakosa (203-F/C-85, agency: N.E.T.) of Hod Hasharon. He is Nigerian forward in his first season at Hod Hasharon. In the last game Odiakosa recorded impressive double-double of 29 points and 15 rebounds. Of course he lead Hod Hasharon to another comfortable win outscoring the lower-ranked Maccabi K/G (#13, 3-11) 98-75. Hod Hasharon's 5th position in the standings has not changed. His team lost some distance to top teams. But 10-4 record is not bad and everything may still change. Odiakosa is a newcomer at Hod Hasharon and quickly became one of team's most reliable players. He belongs to the best scorers in the league with 20.5ppg (#4). He also registered 14.8 boards per game.

Third place about best performers goes to guard Vernon Teel (193-G-87, agency: FCM) of Elitzur Ramla (#11). Teel showcased his all-around game by recording 22 points, sixteen rebounds (!!!) and five assists in the last round. He was a key player of Elitzur Ramla, leading his team to a 72-68 win against the higher-ranked Hapoel Afula (#3, 10-4). Elitzur Ramla can only dream about fighting for top spots in the league. They have rather bad season and 4-10 record places them close to the bottom of the standings. Too bad for Teel he does not play for a better team. But maybe if he did, his season stats would not be that high. Teel has a very solid season. In 6 games in Israel he scored 23.2ppg. He also has 8.5rpg, 5.8apg, 3.7spg and FGP: 56.2%.

Other top performing players last week:
4. Lawrence Westbrook (183-G-88) of Hapoel Kazrin - 32 points, 6 rebounds and 8 assists
5. Allen Durham (198-F-88) of Hapoel Afula - 16 points, 11 rebounds and 3 assists
6. Lenny Daniel (203-F-87) of Maccabi K/G - 21 points and 13 rebounds
7. Aviram Zelkovits (193-G-89) of Ironi Nahariya - 22 points, 6 rebounds and 3 assists
8. Greg Murray (195-F-89) of Kiryat Tivon - 29 points and 6 rebounds
9. Dallis Joyner (201-F-90) of Maccabi K/B - 26 points, 10 rebounds and 3 assists
10. Monta McGhee (198-F-79) of Elitzur Yavne - 13 points, 12 rebounds and 5 assists

The Player of the week is choosen based on efficiency calculation, but also including game result, importance of the game, if played recorded double-double/triple-double, etc.
The efficiency formula is a combination of various formulas used by different basketball organizations/leagues. We got involved many basketball scouts and journalists to assure it's accuracy.
The formula: 1.5*PTS + 3*(REB+AST+ST+BL-TO) - 2*BSAG - 4*PF + 3*PFRV + 4*(2FGPM+3FGPM) + 1.5*FTM - 3*(2FGPA-2FGPM) - 3*(3FGPA-3FGPM) - (FTA-FTM)

Winner League Round 24: Hapoel Holon defeat leader Maccabi T-A - 23 minutes ago
The most crucial game of the last round was a loss of Maccabi T-A (17-7) in Tel-Aviv on Sunday night. Hosts were edged by Hapoel Holon (17-7) 80-79. It ended at the same time the two-game winning streak of Maccabi T-A. It was a key game for the top position in the league. The guests trailed by 2 points after first quarter, but they rallied back to get the 7-point lead at the halftime and eventually won the game 80-79. Hapoel Holon made 22-of-28 free shots (78.6 percent) during the game. I...   [read more]

EuroLeague: Zalgiris outgun Maccabi in Tel Aviv - 4 days ago
Maccabi - Zalgiris 77:93 Zalgiris celebrated the road win over Maccabi in Tel Aviv to improve at 13-15 record in the ladder. The win though did not help Zalgiris as they got eliminated from the playoff race because of the other results in the day. Edgaras Ulanovas (197-G-92) scored 20 points to pace the winners. Zalgiris eked out a 17:14 lead after ten minutes. The visitors poured in 27 points in the second period to take a 44:33 halftime lead. The Kaunas powerhouse maintained the advan...   [read more]
