National League Round 17: Ironi Nes-Ziona loses #1 position - Feb 12, 2013

Round 17 in National League means a new league leader. The biggest surprise took place in Kiryat Bialik where host Maccabi Kiryat Bialik (3-14) edged league's leader Ironi Nes-Ziona (14-3) 90-89 on Tuesday evening. It ended at the same time the four-game winning streak of Ironi Nes-Ziona. Maccabi Kiryat Bialik made 20-of-24 free shots (83.3 percent) during the game. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 21 assists. Great defensive blocking was one of the keys in this match when Maccabi Kiryat Bialik made 7 blocks. The best player for the winners was American forward Dallis Joyner (203-90, college: Stony Brook) who had a double-double by scoring 26 points, 13 rebounds, 4 assists and 4 blocks (on 10-of-13 shooting from the field). Guard Dror Davidi (190-84) chipped in 24 points, 6 rebounds and 7 assists. Naturalized Welsh forward Tal Michael Dunne (197-87) produced a double-double by scoring 28 points, 13 rebounds and 9 assists for the guests. Maccabi Kiryat Bialik moved-up to thirteenth place, which they share with Maccabi K/G. Ironi Nes-Ziona at the other side still keeps top position with three games lost. They were joined at the leadership position by Ironi Nahariya who have the same record. Ironi Nes-Ziona will play next round against Kiryat Tivon trying to make it back to the top of the standings. Maccabi Kiryat Bialik will try to continue on its current victory against third ranked Hod Hasharon on the road.
Important game to mention about took place in Afula. Third ranked Hod Hasharon (13-4) saved a 1-point victory on the road edging 4th placed Hapoel Afula (11-6) 81-80 on Tuesday evening. American guard B.A. Walker (188-84, college: VCU, agency: Pro One Sports) saved the victory by scoring 20 points, 5 rebounds and 7 assists. Gary Gandel contributed with 17 points, 10 rebounds and 5 assists for the winners. American guard Anthony Fisher (191-86, agency: Pro One Sports) answered with 23 points and 6 assists for Hapoel Afula. Hod Hasharon have a solid series of four victories in a row. They maintain third place with 13-4 record behind leader Ironi Nahariya. Hapoel Afula at the other side dropped to the fifth position with six games lost. Hod Hasharon will play against Maccabi Kiryat Bialik (#13) at home in the next round and are hoping to win another game. Hapoel Afula will play against the league's leader Ironi Nahariya (#1) and hopes to get back on the winning track.

The game with biggest result difference took place in Ramat Gan. Local Ironi Ramat Gan (9-8) outscored 13th ranked Maccabi K/G (3-14) 101-75. The game was dominated by American players. Tyrone Kent nailed 27 points and 5 rebounds for the winning side. Maccabi K/G's coach Roni Tzukerman gave up on the game allowing to play eleven players seeing no chance for a win. Ironi Ramat Gan maintains seventh place with 9-8 record, which they share with Hapoel Kazrin. Maccabi K/G lost eighth consecutive game. Newly promoted team dropped to the bottom position with 14 games lost. Ironi Ramat Gan's next round opponent will be Hapoel Kfar Saba (#9) on the road. Maccabi K/G will play against Beer Yaakov (#11).

Other games of round 17 were quite predictable and ended without any surprises. Here they are:
Ironi Nahariya defeated Macc.B.Yaakov in a road game 93-88. Elitzur Yavne beat Elitzur Ramla at home 76-63. Hapoel K/S lost to Hapoel Kazrin on the opponent's court 85-96.

However their fans expected much easier game. The guests trailed by 4 points after three quarters before their 23-17 charge, which allowed them to win the game. Ironi Kiryat Ata made 19-of-24 free shots (79.2 percent) during the game. They also forced 20 Kiryat Tivon turnovers. Round 17 in National League means a new league leader. The biggest surprise took place in Kiryat Bialik where host Maccabi Kiryat Bialik (3-14) edged league's leader Ironi Nes-Ziona (14-3) 90-89 on Tuesday evening. It ended at the same time the four-game winning streak of Ironi Nes-Ziona. Maccabi Kiryat Bialik made 20-of-24 free shots (83.3 percent) during the game. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 21 assists. Great defensive blocking was one of the keys in this match when Maccabi Kiryat Bialik made 7 blocks. The best player for the winners was American forward Dallis Joyner (203-90, college: Stony Brook) who had a double-double by scoring 26 points, 13 rebounds, 4 assists and 4 blocks (on 10-of-13 shooting from the field).
