Smith's double-double lands him Player of the Week award - Feb 19, 2013

Devin Smith
29-year old swingman Devin Smith (196-G/F-83) put on an amazing game in the last round for league's best team Maccabi T-A and receives a Eurobasket.com Player of the Week award for round 17.
He had a double-double of 23 points and 10 rebounds, while his team edged out Hapoel Eilat (#3, 10-7) 72-70. The game was between two of the league's top four teams. It allowed Maccabi T-A to consolidate first place in the Israeli league. Maccabi T-A has a very good season and are considered to have a run for the championship title. They improved their record to 16-1. In the team's last game Smith had a remarkable 70.0% from 2-point range. It's his second year at Maccabi T-A and it's hard to imagine this team without him. The University of Virginia graduate has very impressive stats this year. Smith is in league's top in points (8th best: 14.6ppg), assists (2nd best: 2.1apg) and averages solid 65.2% FGP and 60.3% from behind 3-point line.

Second best performed player last round was Julien Mills (193-G/F-85) of Elizur Ashkelon. He is American swingman in his first season at Elizur Ashkelon. In the last game Mills recorded impressive double-double of 28 points and 11 rebounds. Bad luck as Elizur Ashkelon lost that game 95-103 to the higher-ranked Bnei Hasharon (#7, 8-9). This loss caused Elizur Ashkelon to slide to the very bottom (12) position in the standings. 12 lost games are too many comparing to just five victories Elizur Ashkelon managed to get this year. Mills is a newcomer at Elizur Ashkelon and quickly became one of team's most reliable players.

Third place about best performers goes to forward Frank Hassell (203-F-88) of Hapoel Holon (#10). Hassell scored 22 points and grabbed thirteen rebounds (!!!). Despite Hassell's great performance Hapoel Holon lost 82-83 to the higher-ranked Hapoel J-M (#2, 10-7). But his team cannot count on just a single player as he also needs help of the other teammates. The chances of Hapoel Holon not to end season at such low position in the league, however are less than slim as they have already lost 11 games, recording just six victories. With bigger assistance of his teammates, Hassell could try to bring Hapoel Holon's a little bit higher in the standings. Hassell has individually a great season in Israel. After 16 games, he made it on the list of the league's leaders in points with 17.3ppg (6th best) and rebounds with 12.8rpg (#1 in league). He also has 1.8bpg and FGP: 50.2%.

Other top performing players last week:
4. Julian Wright (203-F-87) of Maccabi Rishon - 16 points, 12 rebounds and 3 assists
5. Adrian Uter (200-F/C-84) of Maccabi Rishon - 19 points, 15 rebounds and 2 assists
6. Josh Duncan (203-PF-86) of Hapoel J-M - 19 points and 12 rebounds
7. Willie Warren (193-PG-89) of Maccabi Rishon - 19 points and 10 assists
8. Jerome Dyson (191-G-87) of Hapoel Holon - 25 points, 4 rebounds and 11 assists
9. Jumaine Jones (203-F-79) of Bnei Hasharon - 11 points, 18 rebounds and 8 assists
10. Pat Calathes (208-G/F-85) of Maccabi Haifa - 11 points, 13 rebounds and 4 assists

The Player of the week is choosen based on efficiency calculation, but also including game result, importance of the game, if played recorded double-double/triple-double, etc.
The efficiency formula is a combination of various formulas used by different basketball organizations/leagues. We got involved many basketball scouts and journalists to assure it's accuracy.
The formula: 1.5*PTS + 3*(REB+AST+ST+BL-TO) - 2*BSAG - 4*PF + 3*PFRV + 4*(2FGPM+3FGPM) + 1.5*FTM - 3*(2FGPA-2FGPM) - 3*(3FGPA-3FGPM) - (FTA-FTM)

The Regular Season in Winner League just ended. Winner League round 33 caused change at the leadership position.
