Hapoel Tel Aviv G Bar Timor, Israel's next NBA draftee? - Mar 4, 2013

Bar Timor
A new name has emerged in the race to become Israel's next NBA draftee as Hapoel Tel Aviv guard Bar Timor (Agency: Avi Zilberman) draws overseas interest.

After several strong showings in Israel's minor league, the latest one being an outstanding championship season with Hapoel Tel Aviv last year, many analysts have crowned 21-year-old Bar Timor as one of the best future guards in the country. After signing a multi-year contract with Hapoel last summer, Timor leapfrogged into Israeli hoops' center stage grossing over 1,000 All-Star votes, then, leading his Tel Aviv underdogs passed crosstown rival Maccabi 69-65, scoring 20 points on 8-12 field goal shooting, including 4-5 from beyond the arc.

Here is Eurobasket's break down on Bar Timor

DOB: March 2, 1992, Height: 6-foot-3, Current Team: Hapoel Tel Aviv, Position: PG/SG, Quick Digits: 8.4 points, 2.8 rebounds, 3.1 assists.

Outlook: Timor began his professional career with Hapoel Haifa of Israel's minor league while still in high school and just 17-years-old. The Haifa native would relocate to Hapoel Kiryat Tivon the following season, emerging as the top Israeli prospect, registering 11.6 points, 2.6 boards, 4.6 dimes, and 1.4 steals per game, before heading south to join Hapoel Tel Aviv.

In 2010, Timor represented Israel in the Division B U18 European Championship and finished as the competition's top passer with 5.8 dimes per. During the summer of 2012, after winning Israel's national-league title and qualifying for the domestic Super League, Timor led Israel's U20 national-team to the European Championship Division A tournament, registering 15.6 points and 2.6 rebounds, clinching Top 5 rankings in assists (4.4) and steals (2.8).

Timor, 21, a current member of Israel's Senior national-team's extended roster, eyes the 2014 NBA draft and has been linked to the Phoenix Suns. He is ranked 31st on DraftExpress.com's 1992-born international list. Although Timor's under a three-year deal with Hapoel, the guard leans towards utilizing his German passport, exploring Germany's top division market next summer.

Strengths: Plays both point guard and shooting guard positions at a high level, yet feels more comfortable as playmaker due to his quick first step, IQ and high-quality passing skills. Timor's acceleration benefits him in the open-court, and he has proven able of throwing perfect half-court lob passes. Good ball handler, though not yet absolute for a natural point guard. Has an explosive first step that allows him to blow by defenders, making excellent decisions off pick and roll situations on offense, and play the passing lanes on the defensive end (recorded two or more steals in six games this season). Unknown for his three point shooting, Timor upped his percentages from 25.8% last season to 41% this season.

Weaknesses: Timor is inconsistent when shooting from the perimeter (though he's significantly improved that aspect of his game this season). He must increase muscle weight if he wants to become a standout finisher inside the paint. Lacks aggressiveness which hurts him when running through screens and defending taller and more athletic perimeter opponents. His ball handling skills are good enough for a SG but not yet supreme for a full-time point guard.

Winner League Round 24: Hapoel Holon defeat leader Maccabi T-A - 2 hours ago
The most crucial game of the last round was a loss of Maccabi T-A (17-7) in Tel-Aviv on Sunday night. Hosts were edged by Hapoel Holon (17-7) 80-79. It ended at the same time the two-game winning streak of Maccabi T-A. It was a key game for the top position in the league. The guests trailed by 2 points after first quarter, but they rallied back to get the 7-point lead at the halftime and eventually won the game 80-79. Hapoel Holon made 22-of-28 free shots (78.6 percent) during the game. I...   [read more]

EuroLeague: Zalgiris outgun Maccabi in Tel Aviv - 4 days ago
Maccabi - Zalgiris 77:93 Zalgiris celebrated the road win over Maccabi in Tel Aviv to improve at 13-15 record in the ladder. The win though did not help Zalgiris as they got eliminated from the playoff race because of the other results in the day. Edgaras Ulanovas (197-G-92) scored 20 points to pace the winners. Zalgiris eked out a 17:14 lead after ten minutes. The visitors poured in 27 points in the second period to take a 44:33 halftime lead. The Kaunas powerhouse maintained the advan...   [read more]
