Greece overcame Israel in two-game series. The Hellenes claimed a 9-point road win tonight to seal their success. Greece entered the game with a 12-point cushion from the home clash. The Hellenes looked confident and determined throughout the opening quarter. They posted a 15:14 lead at the first intermission. Greece did not allow Israel to surge ahead in the second quarter. The Hellenes arrived at halftime up by 4 points 33:29. They boosted the gap in the third period. The visitors accumulated an 8-point buffer heading into the final stanza 48:40. Israel never recovered in the final period as Greece breezed to the win at the end. Olga Chatzinikolaou (181-F/G-81) delivered 12 points to pace Greece. Peli Papamichail (189-F/C-86, agency: Josep and Nicolas) added 11 points for the winners. Michal Epstein (180-F-81, college: Boston U.) answered with 11 points for Israel. Katia Levitsky (190-PF-85, agency: Data Plus Group, college: Villanova) and Shay Doron (175-SG-85, college: Maryland) had 10 points each in the loss.

Hapoel Rishon Le-Zion announced American Kristina Santiago (185-F-89, agency: LBM Management, college: Cal Poly - SLO) for 2013/2014 season. The player will leave Bulgarian team.
Last year she played for Dunav 8806 Ruse in Bulgaria. In 34 games she was the best scorer with impressive 21.6ppg and averaged 9.4rpg, 1.9apg and 2.0spg (in top 4). She helped them to win the league title and the cup. Quite impressive season as she was voted Eurobasket [read more]
Hapoel Rishon Le-Zion announced American Kristina Santiago (185-F-89, agency: LBM Management, college: Cal Poly - SLO) for 2013/2014 season. The player will leave Bulgarian team. Last year she played for Dunav 8806 Ruse in Bulgaria. In 34 games she was the best scorer with impressive 21.6ppg and averaged 9.4rpg, 1.9apg and 2.0spg (in top 4). She helped them to win the league title and the cup. Quite impressive season as she was voted Eurobasket.com All-Bulgarian League Player of the Year, Import Player of the Year and Forward of the Year. Santiago also played 4 games in Eurocup where she had very remarkable stats: 16.0ppg, 7.0rpg, 1.5apg and 1.5spg. The last season she played at Cal Poly - San Luis Obispo in Big West Conference in the NCAA. In 29 games she recorded also great stats: 23.4ppg, 9.9rpg, 1.5apg, 1.7spg and 1.2bpg. She contributed to her team winning the regular season and make it to the semifinals. Quite impressive season as she was voted All-Big West Player of the Year and named to All-Big West 1st Team. Santiago graduated from Cal Poly - San Luis Obispo in 2012.

Greece made the first step towards 2015 EuroBasket Qualifying Round Final. They overcame Israel in Athens to build a 12-point cushion before the return leg of the semifinal series. Artemis Spanou (183-F-93) stepped up with 21 points and 14 rebounds to lead the winners. Greece led right from the start. They built a 21:15 lead after ten minutes. The Hellenes maintained the lead throughout the second period. They ensured a comfortable 43:27 halftime lead. Israel finally picked up the defensive rhythm in the third term. The visitors limited Greece to 14 points in the period to cut the deficit at 13-point mark. Israel held Greece to 12 points but just managed to cut the distance by one losing the battle at the end. Olga Chatzinikolaou (181-F/G-81) and Katerina Sotiriou (186-F-84, agency: FCM) finished with 13 points apiece for Greece. Michal Epstein (180-F-81, college: Boston U.) answered with 19 points for Israel. Shay Doron (175-SG-85, college: Maryland) had 15 points in the loss.
