Zan Tabak
David Federman, a longtime shareholder and part-owner of European power-club Maccabi Tel Aviv, interviewed on a disastrous season and discussed a number of boiling topics, including the status of his coaching staff and players.

Here is a short sum up of the interview. Warning -- SHOTS FIRED.

"This is Maccabi's worst season. Ever. As an organization, we've made some terrible decisions, and lost around $5-6 million."

" (Head coach) Zan Tabak is a straight shooter, and I have a lot respect for him. He is not going to be fired," said David Federman. "In December", he added, "I wanted to re-sign Greek center Sofoklis Schortsanitis, but Zan Tabak told me that if Maccabi signs 'Big Sofo', they'll need to sign a new coach, too. I let it go then and there."

"Our current roster is not good enough to win the EuroCup. It is going to be real tough for us. There are players here who aren't worthy of wearing the uniform of Maccabi."

In reference to former NBA and D-League center Arinze Onuaku, who registered 24 games for Maccabi, averaging 3.4 points and 4.2 rebounds in the Euroleague. "Signing players to short-term deals was a huge mistake. The goal was to buy some time and look for better players on the market, but we failed, and learned that the hard way." Note: Cedric Simmons signed a two-game tryout, but sources said he is also on his way out.

"Next season Maccabi will have 12 players able to compete in the Euroleague against CSKA, Barcelona, and Real Madrid." -- Devin Smith is both a franchise player and under contract. Maccabi holds a team option for center Trevor Mbakwe. The rest of the foreigners, according to sources, are not coming back.

On Jordan Farmar, who signed a $2.8 million guaranteed two-season contract, with an option for year III. "Our coaching staff (former head-coach Guy Goodes, and assistant coach Avi Even) along with (general-manager) Nikola Vujcic said Jordan Farmar and Taylor Rochestie was a bad fit, but (management) believed it could work. Signing Jordan Farmar was a mistake."

On negotiations with Serbian forward Zoran Erceg. "Zoran Erceg was offered to us during the summer for 1.5 million Euros. His name resurfaced before the EuroCup deadline to sign players, but we were skeptic he'd fit in, as he declined a deal solely for EuroCup."
