Best players of Israeli Winner League round 23 - Mar 22, 2017

Rafi Menco
International Rafi Menco (198-SF-94) put on an extraordinary performance in the last round for Hapoel Eilat and that's him to receive a Eurobasket.com Player of the Week award for round 23.
The 22-year old had a double-double of 22 points and thirteen rebounds, while his team beat Maccabi Rishon (#9, 10-13) 94-85. Hapoel Eilat is placed at 4th position in Israeli Winner League. They would have been even better if they hadn't lost a few games earlier this season. Hapoel Eilat will need more victories to improve their 13-10 record. In the team's last game Menco had a remarkable 71.4% from 2-point range. It was one of impressive evenings for him as usually he does not deliver so high stats. Rafi Menco averages this season 8.9ppg and 6.2rpg.

The second most remarkable performance in last round's games was 24-year old German point guard Bar Timor (190-PG-92) of Hapoel J-M. Timor impressed basketball fans with a double-double of 19 points and 10 assists. Of course Hapoel J-M cruised to a 91-80 relatively comfortable win over the lower-ranked Ironi Nahariya (#8, 10-13). Hapoel J-M's 5th position in the standings has not changed. His team lost some distance to top teams. But 13-10 record is not bad and everything may still change. Timor is one of the most experienced players at Hapoel J-M and has a reputation of one of team's most reliable players.

The third best performed player last round was American Murphy Holloway (201-F-90) of Galil Gilboa (#10). Holloway scored 27 points and grabbed seven rebounds. Despite Holloway's great performance Galil Gilboa lost 66-76 to the higher-ranked Bnei Hertzeliyya (#3, 14-9). But his team cannot count on just a single shooter as he also needs help of the other teammates. The chances of Galil Gilboa ranking at the top of the league, however are very questionable as they have already lost 13 games, recording just ten victories. With bigger assistance of his teammates, Holloway could help Galil Gilboa to bring them higher in the standings. Holloway has a great season in Israel. After 18 games, he made it on the list of the league's leaders in points with 16.7ppg (5th best) and rebounds with 9.3rpg (2nd best).

Other top performing players last week:
4. Tu Holloway (182-G-89) of Hapoel Holon - 22 points and 9 assists
5. Karam Mashour (198-F-91) of Bnei Hertzeliyya - 22 points and 13 rebounds
6. Gal Mekel (190-PG-88) of Maccabi T-A - 13 points, 8 rebounds and 9 assists
7. Gregory Vargas (180-PG-86) of Maccabi Haifa - 14 points, 3 rebounds and 9 assists
8. Pierria Henry (193-PG-93) of Hapoel Eilat - 11 points, 7 rebounds and 11 assists
9. Robert Rothbart (217-C-86) of Hapoel Eilat - 15 points and 6 rebounds
10. Joe Alexander (203-F-86) of Maccabi T-A - 14 points and 7 rebounds

The Player of the week is chosen based on efficiency calculation, but also including game result, importance of the game, if played recorded double-double/triple-double, etc.
The efficiency formula is a combination of various formulas used by different basketball organizations/leagues. We got involved many basketball scouts and journalists to assure it's accuracy.
The formula: 1.5*PTS + 3* (REB+AST+ST+BL-TO) - 2*BSAG - 4*PF + 3*PFRV + 4* (2FGPM+3FGPM) + 1.5*FTM - 3* (2FGPA-2FGPM) - 3* (3FGPA-3FGPM) - (FTA-FTM)

Maccabi H/H - Ironi Nes-Ziona 105-99 Maccabi Hod Hasharon rallied past Ironi Nes-Ziona to even the series at 1-1. Power forward Carmel Bouchman (205-91, college: Temple) had a double-double by scoring 25 points, 13 rebounds and 4 blocks to lead the charge for the winners and point guard Oded Shaasho...   [read more]
