Hapoel B/S eked out a narrow home win over Maccabi Rehovot in the opener. Hapoel B/S forced 26 Maccabi Rehovot turnovers. Strangely Maccabi Rehovot outrebounded Hapoel B/S 48-34 including 17 on the offensive glass. 26 personal fouls committed by Maccabi Rehovot helped opponents get some easy free throw opportunities. American power forward Jeff Allen (201-87, college: Virginia Tech) stepped up and scored 13 points and 9 rebounds for the winners and his fellow American import swingman Jason Williams (198-83, college: UTEP) chipped in 12 points and 5 rebounds. At the losing side forward Yonathan Levi (206-90) responded with 18 points and 9 rebounds and American forward Evan Yates (198-91, college: Ashland) produced a double-double by scoring 11 points and 10 rebounds. Both teams had four players each who scored in double figures. Maccabi Rehovot's coach rotated ten players in this game, but that didn't help.
