Paffoni Omegna wins DNA league cup - Mar 19, 2012

After a very fought final the Paffoni Omegna (leader of the league with 26-4) exceeds Torino for 57-52 winning the DNA cup for this year! The team of coach Giampaolo Di Lorenzo try to close the game after the first 20 minutes (38-17) but the Zerouno (18-12 in regular season and second place, own after Omegna, in the northwest division) try the comeback in the second half until reaching the -5 in the last minute. In this third confrontation between the 2 teams (1-1 during the RS with 2 external victories) Daniele Casadei (199-F/G-81) is the top scorer with 16 points (7/16), adding 8 rebounds and 4 steals, and the MVP of the competition. Franco Prelazzi (205-F/C-79) closed with 12 points (6/10 by 2) and 7 rebounds, 8 points for Andrea Saccaggi (192-G-89, agency: Interperformances), 6 points and 7 rebounds of Tommaso Raspino (196-G-89, agency: Players Group) and great work for Matteo Bertolazzi (181-G-79) with just 5 points (and a bad 1/9 st shoot) but with 5 rebounds, 5 steals and 7 assist! For Torino there are 15 points (7/13) of Massimiliano DeFant (201-F-89) in 20 minutes, 12 points and 8 rebounds for Francesco Conti (205-C/F-83), 8 points + 7 rebounds of Federico Tassinari (195-SF-77, agency: Players Group) and 7 points for Marco Portannese (192-G-89, agency: Players Group).
In the semifinals of saturday Omegna had beaten Trento for 67-56 (17 pts + 10 reb of Tommaso Raspino, 9 pts and 5 stl of Pierpaolo Picazio (193-G-79, agency: Players Group) against the 11 points of Walter Santarossa (200-F-78), best scorer for the Bitumcalor) while Torino had exceeded without problems the other favored for the final, Napoli (24-6, second best record of the league), with the result of 77-53 (18 pts, 7 stl & 7 reb of Marco Portannese, 14 pts and 8 reb for Federico Tassinari while for the BPMed not enough the 18 pts in 21 min of Paolo Rotondo (205-F/C-89, agency: Players Group), adding 6 reb and 5 stl, and the 13 pts of Andrea Iannilli (207-C-84) with 10 reb. Disappoint one of the best player of the league, Bernardo Musso (192-G-86), that scored only 5 points with 1/8 by 3).

Trieste wins Spareggio Promozione over Chieti. The hosts took control from the first minutes by winning the initial quarter 18-12. But Chieti won second period 13-12. However it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. They outrebounded Chieti 43-32 including a 16-1 advantage in offensive rebounds. The best player for the winners was Innocenzo Ferraro (200-82) who scored 14 points and 8 rebounds. The former international point guard Marco Carra (185-80) chipped in 20 points. The former international center Emanuele Rossi (208-82) produced a double-double by scoring 18 points and 14 rebounds and naturalized San Marino swingman Andrea Raschi (200-79) added 13 points and 6 rebounds respectively for the guests.

The hosts took control from the first minutes by winning the initial quarter 21-13. But Chieti won second period 24-22. However it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. The game was decided in the last minutes when Trieste won last quarter 28-21. They made 24-of-29 free shots (82.8 percent) during the game. The best player for the winners was the former international point guard Marco Carra (185-80) who scored 21 points. point guard Michele Ruzzier (181-93) chipped in 14 points, 5 rebounds and 4 assists (was perfect 8-for-8 from the free throw line). Four Trieste players scored in double figures. Trieste's coach Eugenio Dalmasson used a ten-player rotation which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. The former international center Emanuele Rossi (208-82) produced 28 points and 8 rebounds and naturalized San Marino swingman Andrea Raschi (200-79) added 15 points, 7 rebounds and 5 assists respectively for the guests.

The game without a history. Ferentino led from the first minutes and controlled entire game increasing their lead in each quarter. Naturalized Argentinian swingman Manuel Carrizo (198-80, agency: Players Group) orchestrated the victory by scoring 24 points and 6 rebounds. Guard Francesco Guarino (182-79) contributed with 13 points, 6 rebounds and 4 assists for the winners. Forward Davide Pascolo (200-90) replied with 18 points and 9 rebounds and Simone Fiorito (200-91) added 17 points in the effort for Trento. Four Trento players scored in double figures. Both coaches used bench players and allowed the starting five to rest.
