Montepaschi wins 4th title in a row! - Jun 19, 2010

It was another season that belonged to the team from Siena. Local Montepaschi juts needed four games to sweep the Finals and grabbed the title. Italian favorites won the fourth consecutive title and repeated the record of Assi Milano (1924-1927), Borletti Milano (1936-1939), Virtus Bologna (1946-1949) and Simmenthal Milano (1957-1960).
Montepaschi did not mind taking the title away from home as they desired to finish the Play-offs earlier. Italian League is one of the last to finish and Siena team looked forward to finish it as soon as possible. They opened the game with 26-19 lead and had 3-point advantage at the halftime. Both teams left the court for the big break as Siena team had 47:44 deficit. The third quarter became decisive in the court as Montepaschi benefit from it. They increased to 71:57 entering the last period and kept the difference for good. They won the last period 22-12 and won the game as well. Ksistof Lavrinovic (210-C-79) shined in the last stanza bringing the team 9 points.
Terrell McIntyre (175-G-77, college: Clemson) erupted with 28 points to lead all the winners. Romain Sato (194-G/F-81, college: Xavier) followed him with 16 and Ksistof Lavrinovic posted 15. Jonas Maciulis (198-G/F-85, agency: Interperformances) responded with 13 points in the losing effort. Stefano Mancinelli (203-F-83) and Mason Rocca (204-F-77, college: Princeton) delivered 12 each, while Chris Monroe (191-G-81, college: George Washington) scored 10.
The season became another triumph for the Montepaschi. They finished the Regular Season with 26-2 record and did not lose any of the games in the Play-offs.

Siena wins Italy Cup 2010 - Feb 21, 2010

Simone Pianigiani and his Montepaschi Siena added another trophy to their huge palmares this afternoon in Avellino, defeating 83-75 Canadian Solar Virtus Bologna in Italy Cup Final Game. There has been a true game this time, however. The feared total dominion of Siena was't staged up, and this happened because Bologna defended very well. In the battle between the coaches, Lino Lardo (agency: Players Group ) gave his players the coordinates to limit as best as possible the two game springs of Siena, McIntyre and Stonerook, and Bologna pressed on every Siena possession starting from the tipoff, staying ahead in the score almost all the first quarter long. Even if Siena took the lead around the 10th minute of the game and never looked back, Bologna tightened the race various times till the end, led by Andre Collins (183-G-82, college: Loyola, MD) (6 pts, 3 assists), Petteri Koponen (193-G-88) (19 pts) and, above all, David Moss (196-F-83, agency: SportsTalent, college: Indiana St.) (18 pts, 2 rebs), who showed all his best skills to the team in which he probably will play next season. Siena was led by a banner performance from Shaun Stonerook (203-F/C-77, college: Ohio), who suffered an ugly start (0/4 from behind the arch), but then produced 19 points, 4 rebs, 4 steals and 2 assits in 25 minutes of play, being also named the Final MVP. Romain Sato (194-G/F-81, college: Xavier) added 15 pts and 2 rebs, David Hawkins (193-G-82, agency: Buck Andre, college: Temple) and Henry Domercant (192-G-80, college: E.Illinois) were the other two Siena players to end game in double digits, with 12 and 10 points, respectively

Montepaschi takes Italian Supercoppa - Oct 4, 2009

Montepaschi won Italian Supercoppa as the team beat Virtus Bologna tonight in the country. Trailing in the beginning of the game the winner of the previous season bounced back for the total success.
It was a great opener before the start of the Italian Seria A. Both teams showed that they are ready for another season and showed their best in the game. Virtus trailed 6:0, however scored seven consecutive points and then enjoyed 17:13 after the opening quarter. Hawkins tied the game at 20:20, while Lavrinovic and Terrell McIntyre (175-G-77, college: Clemson) brought the winners 25:21. Henry Domercant (192-G-80, college: E.Illinois) closed the second quarter at 41:33 as the teams disappeared in the lockers. In the second half the court belonged only to one team, Montepaschi. The latter increased to 44:33 and Terrell McIntyre made it 58:43. Romain Sato (194-G/F-81, college: Xavier) looked grate for the team and was supported by his teammates. The teams finished three periods as the board showed 67:52 and Montepaschi did not slow down at the end.
Romain Sato got MVP award of the Cup as he nailed 19 points for the winners. Terrell McIntyre posted 15, while Eze, Zisis and Lavrinovic added 9 each.
