Siena wins Italy Super Cup: the dynasty goes on - Oct 2, 2011

Montepaschi Siena defeated 73-70 Bennet Cantu yesterday night in Forl claiminig the Italian Super Cup 2011 and opening the new basketball season exactly as it had ended: winning. But the game was led in the score by Bennet Cantu for 38 minutes, and Siena took the game thanks to a tough defense and the typical winning mentality and experience of its veteran players. With 25 ponts and 8 rebounds, Ksistof Lavrinovic (210-C-79) outstood as the game MVP, Bo McCalebb (183-PG-85, college: New Orleans) added 13 pts and 5 assists and Rimantas Kaukenas (193-G-77, college: Seton Hall) 10 pts and 2 assists at the winning side. Vladimir Micov (203-F-85, agency: Beo Basket) led Cantu with 13 pts and 2 assists, Marko Scekic (207-F/C-81, agency: Beo Basket) scored he too 13 pts, addind 7 rebs at the losing side.
For sure, the losers had their 'moral win' and the congratulations of most of the observers. But 'at this point, insn' a technical problem' as stated Cantu coach Andrea Trinchieri at the press conference after the game. The Bennet Cantu players probably remembered during the last minutes that 'last season we won 7 of the 8 games we played' as declared Montepaschi coach Simone Pianigiani after the game. And some decisive mistakes made by Cantu players in the last quarter show that the Siena dynasty can go on for anothers season.
