The Regular Season in SerieA just started.

Pall. Cantu - Umana VE 81-61

Umana Venezia (0-1) recorded its first loss on the court of Pall. Cantu. Visitors were rolled over by Pall. Cantu 81-61. The game without a history. Pall. Cantu led from the first minutes and controlled entire game increasing their lead in each quarter. Pall. Cantu outrebounded Umana Venezia 43-28 including a 17-5 advantage in offensive rebounds. Umana Venezia was plagued by 24 personal fouls down the stretch. American point guard Jerry Smith (188-87, college: Louisville) nailed 13 points, 5 rebounds and 4 assists for the winning side and his fellow American import forward Jeff Brooks (203-89, college: Penn St.) accounted for 14 points and 7 rebounds. Five Pall. Cantu players scored in double figures. Pall. Cantu's coach Andrea Trinchieri allowed to play the deep bench players saving starting five for next games. American point guard Alvin Young (188-75, college: Niagara) came up with 19 points and American-Bulgarian point guard Kee Kee Clark (180-84, college: St.Peter's) added 13 points respectively for Umana Venezia in the defeat. Pall. Cantu will play against Lottomatica Roma on the road in the next round and it will be for sure the game of the week. Umana Venezia will play against Trenkwalder RE in Reggio Emilia.

Very expected game in Reggio Emilia where Trenkwalder RE (0-1) was defeated by Montepaschi Siena (2-0) 61-56. It looked good early as Trenkwalder RE took an 1-point lead at the end of first quarter. But then Montepaschi Siena had a 17-14 second period charge getting the lead and Trenkwalder RE was not able to take back game control losing it eventually 56-61. Worth to mention a great performance of American point guard Bobby Brown (188-84, college: CS Fullerton) who helped to win the game recording 13 points. His fellow American import forward David Moss (196-83, college: Indiana St., agency: SportsTalent) contributed with 7 points and 7 rebounds for the winners. American guard Donnel Taylor (198-82, college: UAB) answered with a double-double by scoring 10 points and 10 rebounds and American-Swiss Greg Brunner (201-83, college: Iowa) added 13 points and 6 rebounds in the effort for Trenkwalder RE. Both coaches used bench players in such tough game. Montepaschi Siena will have a break next round. Trenkwalder RE will play on the road against Umana Venezia.

Enel Brindisi forced the game against Cimberio Varese into an overtime, but lost by eight points 110-118 on Sunday night. The game took place in Brindisi. But the guests from Varese were better at the end. The guests were tied at the half and again at the end of regular time. But they managed to win overtime period 25-17. Cimberio Varese shot 61.4 percent from the field. They also forced 20 Enel Brindisi turnovers. Nigerian-American swingman Ebi Ere (195-81, college: Oklahoma) fired 32 points and 6 rebounds (on 12-of-15 shooting from the field) for the winners. American power forward Bryant Dunston (202-86) chipped in a double-double by scoring 22 points and 13 rebounds. American point guard Jonathan Gibson (182-87, college: N.Mexico St., agency: Three Eye Sports) produced 34 points (!!!) and 5 rebounds and the other American import forward Antywane Robinson (203-84, college: Temple, agency: Priority Sports) added 19 points and 7 rebounds respectively for lost side. Both teams had four players each who scored in double figures. Enel Brindisi's coach Pier Luigi Bucchi rotated ten players in this game, but that didn't help. Cimberio Varese will meet at home Air Avellino in the next round and are hoping to win another game. Enel Brindisi will have a break next round.

But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. Montepaschi Siena dominated down low during the game scoring 48 of its points in the paint compared to Enel Brindisi's 26. Montepaschi Siena forced 20 Enel Brindisi turnovers and outrebounded them 35-22 including a 26-15 advantage in defensive rebounds. Naturalized Nigerian power forward Benjamin Eze (207-81, college: S.Idaho JC) stepped up with a double-double by scoring 12 points and 11 rebounds for the winners and American point guard Bobby Brown (188-84, college: CS Fullerton) chipped in 18 points. At the losing side American point guard Jonathan Gibson (182-87, college: N.Mexico St., agency: Three Eye Sports) responded with 17 points and the other American import point guard Scottie Reynolds (188-87, college: Villanova) scored 8 points and 5 rebounds. The winner was already known earlier in the game, so both coaches allowed to play the bench players saving starting five for next games.
