Umana Venezia (0-1) recorded its first loss on the court of Pall. Cantu. Visitors were rolled over by Pall. Cantu 81-61. The game without a history. Pall. Cantu led from the first minutes and controlled entire game increasing their lead in each quarter. Pall. Cantu outrebounded Umana Venezia 43-28 including a 17-5 advantage in offensive rebounds. Umana Venezia was plagued by 24 personal fouls down the stretch. American point guard Jerry Smith (188-87, college: Louisville) nailed 13 points, 5 rebounds and 4 assists for the winning side and his fellow American import forward Jeff Brooks (203-89, college: Penn St.) accounted for 14 points and 7 rebounds. Five Pall. Cantu players scored in double figures. Pall. Cantu's coach Andrea Trinchieri allowed to play the deep bench players saving starting five for next games. American point guard Alvin Young (188-75, college: Niagara) came up with 19 points and American-Bulgarian point guard Kee Kee Clark (180-84, college: St.Peter's) added 13 points respectively for Umana Venezia in the defeat. Very expected game in Reggio Emilia where Trenkwalder RE (0-1) was defeated by Montepaschi Siena (2-0) 61-56. It looked good early as Trenkwalder RE took an 1-point lead at the end of first quarter. But then Montepaschi Siena had a 17-14 second period charge getting the lead and Trenkwalder RE was not able to take back game control losing it eventually 56-61. Worth to mention a great performance of American point guard Bobby Brown (188-84, college: CS Fullerton) who helped to win the game recording 13 points. His fellow American import forward David Moss (196-83, college: Indiana St., agency: SportsTalent) contributed with 7 points and 7 rebounds for the winners. American guard Donnel Taylor (198-82, college: UAB) answered with a double-double by scoring 10 points and 10 rebounds and American-Swiss Greg Brunner (201-83, college: Iowa) added 13 points and 6 rebounds in the effort for Trenkwalder RE. American power forward Bryant Dunston (202-86) chipped in a double-double by scoring 22 points and 13 rebounds. American point guard Jonathan Gibson (182-87, college: N.Mexico St., agency: Three Eye Sports) produced 34 points (!!!) and 5 rebounds and the other American import forward Antywane Robinson (203-84, college: Temple, agency: Priority Sports) added 19 points and 7 rebounds respectively for lost side. Both teams had four players each who scored in double figures. Enel Brindisi's coach Pier Luigi Bucchi rotated ten players in this game, but that didn't help. Cimberio Varese will meet at home Air Avellino in the next round and are hoping to win another game. Enel Brindisi will have a break next round.
