The biggest surprise of round 9 in SerieA was guest Montepaschi Siena's (7-2) road victory over 3rd placed Cantu (6-3) 67-54 on Monday evening. It ended at the same time the three-game winning streak of Cantu. It was a key game for the second position in the league. The game was mostly controlled by Montepaschi Siena. Cantu managed to win third quarter 13-9. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. Montepaschi Siena forced 20 Cantu turnovers. The best player for the winners was American forward David Moss (196-83, college: Indiana St., agency: SportsTalent) who scored 18 points. Georgian Viktor Sanikidze (203-86) chipped in 10 points and 8 rebounds. Montepaschi Siena's coach Luca Banchi used a ten-player rotation which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. At the other side the best for losing team was Georgian Manuchar Markoishvili (196-86) who recorded a double-double by scoring 18 points and 11 rebounds. Montepaschi Siena have a solid series of three victories in a row. Defending champion moved-up to second place, which they share with Banco di Sard. Cantu at the other side dropped to the fourth position with three games lost. Montepaschi Siena is looking forward to face Air Avellino (#12) at home in the next round and are hoping to win another game. Cantu will play against Juvecaserta (#10) in Caserta and is hoping to win this game.
Twelfth-ranked Vanoli Cremona (2-7) made lots of trouble for second ranked Banco di Sard. (7-2) in Sassari. Banco di Sard. managed to secure only two-point victory 80-78. However their fans expected much easier game. It was a good game for American point guard Travis Diener (184-82, college: Marquette) who led his team to a victory with 23 points and 7 assists. Michal Ignerski contributed with 13 points and 11 rebounds for the winners. Banco di Sard.'s coach Romeo Sacchetti allowed to play the deep bench players in such tough game. American guard Lance Harris (195-84, college: Kansas St.) answered with a double-double by scoring 18 points and 10 rebounds for Vanoli Cremona. Banco di Sard. maintains second place with 7-2 record having just two points less than leader Cimberio VA, which they share with Montepaschi. Vanoli Cremona lost fourth consecutive game. They dropped to the bottom position with seven games lost. They share it with Pesaro and Sutor MGR. Banco di Sard. will play against Armani Milano (#8) on the road in the next round which should be theoretically an easy game. Vanoli Cremona will play against Umana Venezia (#13) and hopes to get back on the winning track.
Undefeated leader Cimberio Varese delivered the ninth consecutive victory on Sunday night. This time they beat 6th ranked Trenkwalder RE (5-4) 91-78. It ended at the same time the five-game winning streak of Trenkwalder RE. Ebi Ere stepped up and scored 24 points and 9 rebounds for the winners. The best for the losing side was Donnel Taylor with 29 points. Undefeated Cimberio Varese (9-0) have an impressive series of nine victories in a row. They maintain first place with a perfect record of 9 victories in a row. Newly promoted Trenkwalder RE dropped to the fifth position with four games lost. They share it with 3 other teams. Cimberio Varese will meet Lottomatica Roma (#6) on the road in the next round which should be theoretically an easy game. Trenkwalder RE will play against Enel Brindisi and hope to secure a win.
The game in Bologna was also worth to mention about. 5th ranked Lottomatica Roma (5-4) played at the court of seventh ranked SAIE3 BO (5-4). SAIE3 BO managed to secure a 6-point victory 85-79. Kenny Hasbrouck nailed 22 points and 6 assists for the winning side. SAIE3 BO moved-up to fifth place, which they share with 3 other teams including defeated Lottomatica Roma. SAIE3 BO's next round opponent will be VL Pesaro (#14) at home and are hoping to win another game. Lottomatica Roma will play against the league's leader Cimberio Varese (#1).
We should mention about the upset which took place in Avellino, where higher ranked Enel Brindisi (4-5) lost to fifteenth ranked Air Avellino (3-6) in a road game 71-81 on Sunday. It ended at the same time the three-game winning streak of Enel Brindisi. The best player for the winners was Mustafa Shakur who scored 26 points and 6 assists (on 10-of-13 shooting from the field). Enel Brindisi's coach Pier Luigi Bucchi rotated ten players in this game, but that didn't help. Air Avellino moved-up to eleventh place, which they share with Umana VE and Angelico BI. Newly promoted Enel Brindisi dropped to the ninth position with five games lost. Air Avellino will face higher ranked Montepaschi Siena (#3) on the road in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory.

Other games of round 9 were very predictable and ended without any surprises. Here they are:
Umana VE was defeated by Angelico BI in Biella 68-59. Bottom-ranked Sutor MGR was beaten by EA7 Armani at home 76-82. JuveCaserta won against Pesaro on the opponent's court 77-63.
