The most exciting game of round 12 in the SerieA took place in Roma. This derby game ended with only two-point home defeat of 5th ranked Lottomatica Roma (7-5) to second ranked Banco di Sard. (10-2) 83-81 on Sunday evening. It ended at the same time the two-game winning streak of Lottomatica Roma. The guests trailed by 3 points after three quarters before their 30-25 charge, which allowed them to win the game. Strangely Lottomatica Roma outrebounded Banco di Sard. 42-29 including 17 on the offensive glass. The best player for the winners was American point guard Travis Diener (184-82, college: Marquette) who scored 15 points and 6 assists. The other American import guard Drake Diener (196-81, college: De Paul, agency: Priority Sports) chipped in 22 points (on 7-of-9 shooting from the field). Banco di Sard.'s coach Romeo Sacchetti used a ten-player rotation in such tough game. At the other side the best for losing team was American-Nigerian power forward Gani Lawal (205-88, college: Georgia Tech) who recorded a double-double by scoring 34 points (!!!) and 17 rebounds (on 14-of-16 shooting from the field). Banco di Sard. have a solid four-game winning streak. They maintain second position with 10-2 record behind leader Cimberio VA, which they share with Montepaschi. Lottomatica Roma at the other side keeps the fifth place with five games lost. They share the position with Enel Brindisi. Banco di Sard. is looking forward to face SAIE3 BO (#8) in Bologna in the next round where they are favorite. Lottomatica Roma will play on the road against Enel Brindisi and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
Leader Cimberio Varese delivered the eleventh victory. This time they beat 8th ranked Armani Milano (6-6) 83-77. It was a good game for American point guard Mike Green (185-85, college: Butler) who led his team to a victory with 19 points and 7 rebounds. Adrian Banks contributed with 26 points for the winners. Center Ioannis Bourousis (213-83, agency: FCM) replied with a double-double by scoring 18 points and 13 rebounds for Armani Milano. Armani Milano's coach rotated ten players in this game, but that didn't help. Cimberio Varese maintains first position with 11-1 record. Armani Milano at the other side dropped to the seventh place with six games lost. They share the position with Trenkwalder RE and SAIE3 BO. Cimberio Varese will play against Vanoli Cremona (#12) at home in the next round which should be an easy win for them. Armani Milano will play against Angelico Biella (#14) and hopes to get back on the winning track.
Umana Venezia (5-7) survived in overtime against Juvecaserta (5-7) by six points 83-77 on Sunday night. The game took place in Caserta. But the guests from Venezia were better at the end. Umana Venezia's coach Andrea Mazzon allowed to play the deep bench players in such tough game. The best for the losing side was Zygimantas Jonusas with a double-double by scoring 16 points and 11 rebounds. Umana Venezia moved-up to tenth place, which they share with JuveCaserta. Umana Venezia will meet at home higher ranked Montepaschi Siena (#3) in the next round and they do not belong to the favorites in that game. Juvecaserta will play against Air Avellino (#15) and hope to secure a win.
The game in Bologna was also worth to mention about. Third ranked Montepaschi Siena (10-2) played at the court of 6th ranked SAIE3 BO (6-6). Montepaschi Siena defeated SAIE3 BO 77-66. SAIE3 BO will play against the league's second-placed Banco di Sard. in Sassari.
