The most important game in the last round took place in Caserta between second ranked Banco di Sard. (11-3) and tenth ranked Juvecaserta (7-7) on Sunday night. Banco di Sard. was defeated by Juvecaserta in a tough game on the road 81-88. It ended at the same time the five-game winning streak of Banco di Sard.. The hosts trailed by 1 point after first quarter, but they rallied back to get the 9-point lead at the halftime and eventually won the game 88-81. Juvecaserta dominated down low during the game scoring 46 of its points in the paint compared to Banco di Sard.'s 26 and made 24-of-28 free shots (85.7 percent) during the game. Serbian power forward Stevan Jelovac (208-89, agency: Beo Basket) scored 16 points and 9 rebounds to lead the charge for the winners and the former international Marco Mordente (192-79) chipped in 14 points and 4 assists during the contest. American point guard Travis Diener (184-82, college: Marquette) responded with 25 points and 5 assists. Banco di Sard.'s coach Romeo Sacchetti rotated ten players in this game, but that didn't help. Juvecaserta moved-up to seventh place, which they share with EA7 Armani and Trenkwalder RE. Banco di Sard. at the other side keeps the second position with three games lost. They share it with Montepaschi. Juvecaserta is looking forward to face Trenkwalder RE (#8) in Reggio Emilia in the next round. Banco di Sard. will play at home against Montepaschi Siena (#3) and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
SerieA top team - Cimberio Varese (13-1) managed to deliver another win. This time they beat sixteenth ranked VL Pesaro (2-12) 82-69. International forward Achille Polonara (202-91) notched a double-double by scoring 20 points and 10 rebounds to lead the effort and Mike Green supported him with 17 points, 5 rebounds and 6 assists. Even 16 points by international point guard Daniele Cavaliero (188-84) did not help to save the game for VL Pesaro. VL Pesaro's coach tested ten players, but that didn't help to avoid defeat in this game. Cimberio Varese have a solid four-game winning streak. They maintain first position with 13-1 record. VL Pesaro lost eleventh consecutive game. VL Pesaro at the other side stay at the bottom place with 12 games lost. Cimberio Varese will play against Umana Venezia (#10) at home in the next round and are hoping to win another game. An interesting game took place in Venezia where higher ranked Umana Venezia (6-8) was upset on its own court by fifteenth ranked Air Avellino (4-10) 97-93. It ended at the same time the three-game winning streak of Umana Venezia. Kaloyan Ivanov orchestrated the victory by scoring 21 points and 8 rebounds (was perfect 8-for-8 from the free throw line). Umana Venezia's coach let to play ten players, but that didn't help to avoid defeat in this game. Air Avellino moved-up to twelfth place, which they share with Sutor MGR and Vanoli CR. Umana Venezia at the other side dropped to the tenth position with eight games lost. Air Avellino's next round opponent will be bottom-ranked VL Pesaro (#16) at home.
