Slovakian Marie Ruzickova (189-C-86, agency: LBM Management) put on an extraordinary performance in the last round for Lucca and that's her to receive a Eurobasket.com Player of the Week award for round 13. The 26-year old center had the game-high 28 points adding seven rebounds and two assists for Lucca in her team's victory, helping them to crush Priolo (#7, 3-8) with 25-point margin 83-58. Lucca maintains the 3rd position in Italian A1. They would have been even better if they hadn't lost a few games earlier this season. Lucca will need more victories to improve their 8-3 record. It's Ruzickova's second year at Lucca and it's hard to imagine this team without her. Marie Ruzickova averages this season 12.0ppg and 8.1rpg.
The second most remarkable performance in last round's games was 23-year old Lithuanian center Gintare Petronyte (196-C-89) of Taranto. Petronyte impressed basketball fans with 16 points, 6 rebounds and 2 assists. Of course she lead Taranto to another comfortable win outscoring slightly lower-ranked Umbertide (#5, 7-4) 74-51. This victory allowed Taranto to move up to 4th position in the standings. Her team's 7-3 record is not bad at all. Petronyte is a newcomer at Taranto and it seems she did not have too much trouble to become one of team's leaders.
The third best performed player last round was American Jazmine Sepulveda (178-SG-85, agency: Merit Sports) of Chieti (#6). Sepulveda scored 24 points. She was a key player of Chieti, leading her team to a 85-71 easy win against the lower-ranked Cagliari CUS (#10, 1-9). The chances of Chieti not to end season at such low position in the league, however are less than slim as they have already lost 7 games, recording just four victories. With bigger assistance of his teammates, Sepulveda could try to bring Chieti's a little bit higher in the standings. Sepulveda has individually a great season in Italy. After 11 games, she made it on the list of the league's leaders in points with 14.0ppg (9th best). She also has 2.6spg and FGP: 57.1%.
Other top performing players last week: 4. Megan Mahoney (183-F-83) of Taranto - 22 points and 4 rebounds 5. Shamela Hampton (191-C-87) of Orvieto - 14 points and 10 rebounds 6. Olga Maznichenko (187-F-91) of Pozzuoli - 14 points, 11 rebounds and 2 assists
The Player of the week is chosen based on efficiency calculation, but also including game result, importance of the game, if played recorded double-double/triple-double, etc. The efficiency formula is a combination of various formulas used by different basketball organizations/leagues. We got involved many basketball scouts and journalists to assure it's accuracy. The formula: 1.5*PTS + 3* (REB+AST+ST+BL-TO) - 2*BSAG - 4*PF + 3*PFRV + 4* (2FGPM+3FGPM) + 1.5*FTM - 3* (2FGPA-2FGPM) - 3* (3FGPA-3FGPM) - (FTA-FTM)
