The game between second ranked Matera (14-7) and eleventh ranked Reggio Calabr. (10-11) was the most important one in the last round on Sunday night. Matera was defeated by Reggio Calabr. in a tough game in Matera 69-77. Matera was trailing by 1 point at halftime but managed to get 2-point lead after three quarters before a 25-15 charge of Reggio Calabr., which allowed them to win the game. 24 personal fouls committed by Matera helped opponents get some easy free throw opportunities. It was a great evening for point guard Alessandro Piazza (174-87) who led his team to a victory scoring 12 points, 5 rebounds, 7 assists and 6 steals (was perfect 8-for-8 from the free throw line). Power forward Marco Ammannato (202-88, agency: Players Group) helped adding 14 points and 8 rebounds. Reggio Calabr.'s coach Francesco Ponticiello used a ten-player rotation which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. The former international power forward Massimo Rezzano (203-82) responded with 21 points. Reggio Calabr. moved-up to tenth place. Matera at the other side keeps the second position with seven games lost. Reggio Calabr. are looking forward to face Mazzeo San Severo (#15) at home in the next round which should be theoretically an easy game. Matera will play against Castelletto (#7) and is hoping to win this game.
Nazionale A top team - Torino (18-3) added another victory to their record. This time they beat eighth ranked Lucca (11-10) 77-69. It was a quality performance for naturalized Polish power forward Jakub Wojciechowski (210-90) who led the winners with a double-double by scoring 17 points and 14 rebounds. Daniele Sandri accounted for 18 points and 8 rebounds (on 6-of-7 shooting from the field). The former international forward Walter Santarossa (200-78) came up with 15 points and 7 rebounds for Lucca in the defeat. Torino have an impressive series of six victories in a row. They maintain first place with 18-3 record. Newly promoted Lucca keeps the eighth position with ten games lost. They share it with Chieti. Torino will play against Agrigento (#5) on the road in the next round. Lucca will play against Firenze and hopes to get back on the winning track.
A very close game took place in San Severo between Mazzeo San Severo and Naturhouse Ferrara. Sixteenth ranked Mazzeo San Severo (8-13) got a very close home victory over 13th ranked Naturhouse Ferrara (8-12). Mazzeo San Severo managed to escape with a 1-point win 86-85 on Sunday evening. The best player for the winners was Andrea Iannilli who scored 16 points and 8 rebounds. Valerio Circosta produced 22 points for the guests. Mazzeo San Severo moved-up to fifteenth place. Newly promoted Naturhouse Ferrara dropped to the fourteenth position with 12 games lost. Mazzeo San Severo will meet higher ranked Reggio Calabr. (#10) in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. Naturhouse Ferrara will play against Bari (#4) and will have a slim chance for a victory.
Fifteenth-ranked Recanati (7-13) gave a tough game to ninth ranked Chieti (11-10). Chieti managed to secure only two-point victory 71-69. However their fans expected much easier game. Simone Gatti orchestrated the victory by scoring 20 points and 5 rebounds. Chieti moved-up to eighth place, which they share with Lucca. Recanati at the other side dropped to the seventeenth position with 13 games lost. Chieti's next round opponent will be Mirandola (#12) on the road. Recanati will play against Latina Basket (#16) and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
An interesting game took place in Latina where 4th placed Castelletto (12-9) was upset on the court of seventeenth ranked Latina Basket (8-14) 95-89 on Sunday. It was a great evening for Manuel Carrizo who led his team to a victory scoring 30 points, 5 rebounds and 7 assists. The victory was the third consecutive win for Latina Basket. They moved-up to sixteenth place. Castelletto lost their third game in a row. They dropped to the fifth position with nine games lost. Latina Basket will face Recanati (#17) on the road in the next round. Castelletto will play against the league's second-placed Matera (#2) and will have a slim chance for a victory.

There were no shocking results in the rest of the games of round 23: Treviglio lost to Mirandola on the opponent's court 62-75. Perugia unfortunately lost to Agrigento in a home game 80-87. Omegna managed to beat Firenze on the road 81-72.

Chieti - Recanati 71-69

Fifteenth-ranked Recanati (7-13) gave a tough game to ninth ranked Chieti (11-10). Chieti managed to secure only two-point victory 71-69. However their fans expected much easier game. The hosts started the game with a very strong first quarter 19-8. But Recanati won second period 22-13. However it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. The game was decided in the last minutes when Chieti won last quarter 22-21. Forward Simone Gatti (202-82) orchestrated the victory by scoring 20 points and 5 rebounds. point guard Manuel Diomede (188-90, agency: Two Points) contributed with 12 points and 9 rebounds for the winners.
