Host teams show no mercy winning all games.

The most exciting game of round 16 in the A1 took place in Schio. This derby game ended with only three-point defeat on the road of 3rd ranked Taranto (9-4) to first ranked Familia Schio (12-1) 74-71 on Sunday evening. It ended at the same time the five-game winning streak of Taranto. Familia Schio made 18-of-22 free shots (81.8 percent) during the game. 25 personal fouls committed by Taranto helped opponents get some easy free throw opportunities. The former international power forward Jenifer Nadalin (186-83, college: Furman) fired 17 points and 5 rebounds for the winners. French center Elodie Godin (191-85) chipped in 10 points and 9 rebounds. American forward Megan Mahoney (183-83, college: Kansas St., agency: LBM Management) produced a double-double by scoring 25 points and 10 rebounds for lost side. Familia Schio have an impressive 12-game winning streak. They maintain first position with 12-1 record. Defending champion Taranto dropped to the fourth place with four games lost. Familia Schio will have a break next round, and it should allow them to practice more before next game. Taranto will play at home against Cagliari CUS (#10) and is hoping to prove to their fans that this time they can win.
Important game to mention about took place in Priolo. Seventh ranked Priolo (5-9) saved a 3-point victory at home edging 5th ranked Umbertide (8-5) 58-55 on Sunday evening. Worth to mention a great performance of the former international guard Valentina Donvito (170-78) who helped to win the game recording 22 points. Tania Seino contributed with 8 points and 9 rebounds for the winners. American D'Andra Moss (178-88, college: VCU, agency: Two Points) replied with a double-double by scoring 19 points and 16 rebounds for Umbertide. Priolo moved-up to sixth place. Umbertide at the other side keeps the fifth position with five games lost. Priolo will play against Orvieto (#8) on the road in the next round. Umbertide will play against the league's second-placed Lucca and hopes to get back on the winning track.

At the losing side Jazmine Sepulveda responded with 21 points and 5 rebounds. Lucca have a solid three-game winning streak. They maintain second position with 10-3 record having just two points less than leader Familia Schio. Newly promoted C.U.S. Chieti dropped to the seventh place with nine games lost. Lucca will meet Umbertide (#5) on the road in the next round. C.U.S. Chieti will play against Parma and hope to secure a win.

In the last game of round 16 Pozzuoli was defeated by Cagliari CUS in a road game 78-60.



Cagliari CUS - Pozzuoli 78-60

There was a minor upset when 8th ranked Pall.Pozzuoli (3-10) was defeated on the road by tenth ranked Cagliari CUS (2-11) 78-60 on Sunday. The hosts trailed by 1 point at the halftime before their 44-25 charge in the second half, which allowed them to win the game. Worth to mention a great performance of guard Erika Striulli (171-90) who helped to win the game recording 21 points, 5 rebounds and 6 assists and American forward Melissa Goodall (189-89, college: Toledo) who added 12 points and 9 rebounds during the contest. Four Cagliari CUS players scored in double figures. At the losing side American swingman Darxia Morris (172-89, college: UCLA, agency: Merit Sports) responded with a double-double by scoring 28 points and 11 rebounds and her fellow American import guard Kalana Greene (178-87, college: Connecticut, agency: LBM Management) produced a double-double by scoring 13 points and 11 rebounds. Cagliari CUS maintains tenth position with 2-11 record. Loser Pall.Pozzuoli keeps the eighth place with ten games lost. They share the position with Orvieto. Cagliari CUS will meet higher ranked Taranto (#4) on the road in the next round and they do not belong to the favorites in that game. Pall.Pozzuoli will have a break next round.

The game with biggest result difference took place in Lucca. Local Lucca (10-3) outscored 6th ranked C.U.S. Chieti (4-9) 94-48 on Sunday night. The game without a history. Lucca led from the first minutes and controlled entire game increasing their lead in each quarter. They dominated down low during the game scoring 62 of its points in the paint compared to C.U.S. Chieti's 28. Lucca forced 22 C.U.S. Chieti turnovers and outrebounded them 35-20 including a 29-12 advantage in defensive rebounds. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 22 assists comparing to just 3 passes made by C.U.S. Chieti's players. Worth to mention a quality performance of American forward Adrienne Johnson (182-89, college: Louisiana Tech, agency: LBM Management) who helped to win the game recording 18 points and 9 rebounds and Slovakian center Marie Ruzickova (189-86, agency: LBM Management) who added 12 points and 12 rebounds during the contest.
