Luigi Datome
In the first game of this 2013 Italian Final Eight, hosted by the Mediolanum Forum (Milano), Roma (5) surprising Cantu' (4) and will be the first semifinalist. The Acea controls the game and resists to the finel assault of the Fox Town (special sponsor of Cantu' for this cup) that go back until -1 after have been below of 19 points in the first seconds of the last quarter. Cantu' (today without Tyus out for injury) shoots with better percentage (14/25 by 3) but Roma dominates under the board (39+15 at rebound).

After the first 10 minutes Roma leads 25-18 thanks a good starts of the usual Lawal with dunks and offensive rebounds well served by Goss. With the entrance of Mazzarino for Aradori Cantu' comeback and go ahead with 3 consecutive triples (2/2 for Leunen in the quarter) but finally Datome enter in the game and, with 8 almost consecutive points, back Roma forward in the scoring. Debut in the game also for Mancinelli, for the first time at Forum after leaving Milano the last year.
In the first part of the second quarter there is balance but is always Lawal to dominate under the board despite a tecnical foul because some word too after a dunk against Aradori and a little nervousness with Cusin. At the other side keeping to shot, and especially to scorer by 3, Leunen and Mazzarino but without be able to mend the breach thanks the usual perfection at shoot of captain Datome and the points of Goss and Taylor. At 2 minutes by the end Roma reaches the max advantage (+12) because the double tecnical foul for Mancinelli and Leunen (both with 3 fouls, like Jones and Brooks) convert with 3 of 4 free throws by Datome. The final after half game is 50-44 for the Acea thanks the 3 points shot of Mazzarino (3/3) with 2 seconds less. 11 for Leunen, 13 of Datome and 12 of Lawal the three players in double digit after 20 minutes.
In the third quarter Roma controls the game thanks the work of Lawal and above all the points of Czyz that scores the first 5 points of the team and the basket of the new max advantage, +15 at 26' (at the end will be 12 the points in this quarter for the Polish forward). For Cantu' only 10 points with the first error of Mazzarino by 3 and 5 points (4/5 by 3) of Leunen. Moreover bad news for Trinchieri that will have to manage the four fouls of Brooks and Mancinelli in the last quarter, starting with 15 points to be recovered (69-54 after 30' minutes for the Virtus).
In the last quarter Roma seems to control without problem the game reaching after just one minute also the +19 with Czyz and Datome but, after the fourth foul of Jones, and a couple of basket for Aradori, starts the Tabu show that with 12 points bring back his team until the -7. Roma can't recover and Cantu' with the triples of Leunen (next out for fouls) and Tabu back with just 4 points behind Roma with only 3 minutes to play. The fifth foul of Mancinelli is a good news for Trinchieri: Brooks back on the court and with a '2+1' played and an incredible block on Lawal takes Cantu' to -1 at 38'. Goss signs the +3 and, in the last minute, starts the free throws lottery: after Tabu (1/2) and Lawal (0/2) D'Ercole with 2/2 takes again Roma forward (+4) but, with just 21 seconds, Tabu by 3 (and the help of the board) reopens the game. Again 2 free throws of Luigi Datome (203-F-87) (nominated MVP) and a doubtful block on Scekic of the Italian forward closing the game with the result of 89-85 for Roma!

Acea Roma: Datome 22 pts + 12 reb, Czyz 19 pts + 7 reb, Lawal 17 pts + 9 reb, Taylor 14 pts, Goss 5 ass + 3 stl.

Fox Town Cantu': Tabu 24 pts + 4 ass, Leunen 19 pts (5/6 by 3), Aradori 15 pts + 6 reb, Mazzarino & Brooks 9 pts.
