Alexander Simoncelli (188-PG-86, agency: Interperformances) had a great game in the last round for Castelletto and that's him to receive a Eurobasket.com Nazionale A Player of the Week award for round 24. The 26-year old playmaker got a double-double of 14 points and eleven assists, while his team beat Matera (#2, 14-8) 91-84. The game was between two of the league's top four teams. Castelletto is placed at 3rd position in Italian Nazionale A. They would have been even better if they hadn't lost a few games earlier this season. Castelletto will need more victories to improve their 13-9 record. It was one of impressive evenings for Simoncelli as usually he does not deliver so high stats. Simoncelli has impressive league stats. He is in league's top in assists (3rd best: 5.0apg) and averages solid 51.1% FGP.
The second most remarkable performance in last round's games was young forward Gianpaolo Ricci (200-F-91) of Casalpusterlengo. Ricci impressed basketball fans with a double-double of 12 points and 13 rebounds. Of course he lead Casalpusterlengo to another comfortable win outscoring the lower-ranked Perugia (#18, 5-17) 84-62. The game was between two teams which are definitely not main contenders for the title. Casalpusterlengo keeps 11th position. His team lost some distance to top teams. But 10-10 record is not bad and everything may still change. Ricci is well-known by Casalpusterlengo fans and he already established his position as one of team's most reliable players.
The third best performed player last round was Jordan Losi (182-PG-80) of Mirandola (#12). Losi showcased his all-around game by recording 15 points, eleven rebounds (!!!) and five assists in the last round. He was a key player of Mirandola, leading his team to a 80-56 easy win against the higher-ranked Chieti (#8, 11-11). The chances of Mirandola ranking at the top of the league, however are very questionable as they have already lost 12 games, recording just ten victories. With bigger assistance of his teammates, Losi could help Mirandola to bring them higher in the standings. Losi has a great season in Italy. After 23 games, he made it on the list of the league's leaders in assists with 5.8apg (2nd best).
Other top performing players last week: 4. Alessandro Piazza (174-PG-87) of Reggio Calabr. - 12 points, 5 rebounds and 8 assists 5. Marco Maganza (204-F/C-91) of Recanati - 13 points, 10 rebounds and 2 assists 6. Massimo Rezzano (203-F/C-82) of Matera - 20 points, 12 rebounds and 3 assists 7. Francesco Ihedioha (196-F-86) of Castelletto - 17 points and 5 rebounds 8. Filippo Baldi Rossi (207-F/C-91) of Torino - 14 points and 11 rebounds 9. Giulio Gazzotti (202-F-91) of Ferrara - 23 points and 4 rebounds 10. Michele Ferri (191-G-85) of Ferrara - 16 points, 7 rebounds and 5 assists
The Player of the week is choosen based on efficiency calculation, but also including game result, importance of the game, if played recorded double-double/triple-double, etc. The efficiency formula is a combination of various formulas used by different basketball organizations/leagues. We got involved many basketball scouts and journalists to assure it's accuracy. The formula: 1.5*PTS + 3*(REB+AST+ST+BL-TO) - 2*BSAG - 4*PF + 3*PFRV + 4*(2FGPM+3FGPM) + 1.5*FTM - 3*(2FGPA-2FGPM) - 3*(3FGPA-3FGPM) - (FTA-FTM)
