American guard Drake Diener (196-G-81, agency: Priority Sports) had a very impressive game in the last round for second-ranked Banco di Sard., receiving a Eurobasket.com Player of the Week award for round 20. The 31-year old player had a double-double of 28 points and 11 rebounds, while his team beat Pesaro (#15, 5-15) 87-76. Banco di Sard. maintains the 2nd position in Italian SerieA. They are still close to the very top. Banco di Sard. would have been even better if they kept winning the games like in the last round. They have a solid 16-4 record. In the team's last game Diener had a remarkable 88.9% from 2-point range. It's his second year at Banco di Sard. and it's hard to imagine this team without him. Former De Paul University star has very solid stats this year. Diener. Diener is in league's top in points (5th best: 17.0ppg) and averages impressive 64.0% FGP and 46.9% from behind 3-point line.
The second best player in last round's games was 26-year old Croatian Andrija Stipanovic (209-C-86) of Vanoli CR. Stipanovic had a very good evening with a double-double of 16 points and 13 rebounds. It was enough for Vanoli CR to edge slightly lower-ranked Sutor MGR (#13, 6-14) 89-87. The game was between two teams which are definitely not main contenders for the title. But Vanoli CR managed to improve slightly their position in standings taking 11th place. His team is not often considered as one of the league's best with a mere 8-12 record. Stipanovic is a newcomer at Vanoli CR and despite he is not a team leader yet, every game he becomes more reliable player. Hopefully performances like the last one will happen more often.
Third on the list of top players last round was American guard Tarence Kinsey (200-G-84) of Pesaro (#15). Kinsey got into 30-points club by scoring 33 points in the last round. He went also for nine rebounds . Despite Kinsey's great performance Pesaro lost 76-87 to the higher-ranked Banco di Sard. (#2, 16-4). But his team cannot count on just a single shooter as he also needs help of the other teammates. Pesaro can only dream about fighting for top spots in the league. They have rather bad season and 5-15 record places them close to the bottom of the standings. Too bad for Kinsey he does not play for a better team. But maybe if he did, his season stats would not be that high. Kinsey has a very solid season. In 9 games in Italy he scored 12.3ppg.
Other top performing players last week: 4. Ioannis Bourousis (213-C-83) of EA7 Armani - 17 points and 13 rebounds 5. Timothy Bowers (188-PG-82) of Umana VE - 12 points, 12 rebounds and 3 assists 6. Bryant Dunston (202-F/C-86) of Cimberio VA - 16 points, 10 rebounds and 2 assists 7. Greg Brunner (201-PF-83) of Trenkwalder RE - 14 points, 12 rebounds and 2 assists 8. Fabio Di Bella (187-PG-78) of Sutor MGR - 20 points, 4 rebounds and 8 assists 9. Pietro Aradori (195-SG-88) of Cantu - 20 points and 2 rebounds 10. Cedric Simmons (206-F/C-86) of Enel Brindisi - 13 points and 9 rebounds
The Player of the week is choosen based on efficiency calculation, but also including game result, importance of the game, if played recorded double-double/triple-double, etc. The efficiency formula is a combination of various formulas used by different basketball organizations/leagues. We got involved many basketball scouts and journalists to assure it's accuracy. The formula: 1.5*PTS + 3*(REB+AST+ST+BL-TO) - 2*BSAG - 4*PF + 3*PFRV + 4*(2FGPM+3FGPM) + 1.5*FTM - 3*(2FGPA-2FGPM) - 3*(3FGPA-3FGPM) - (FTA-FTM)
