After a 87-69 loss against Montepaschi Siena, Fenerbahce Ulkers hopes of making it to the playoffs of the Turkish Airlines Euroleague are fading away. Bojan Bogdanovic (203-SG-89) scored 22 points and Bo McCalebb (178-PG-85, college: New Orleans) added 10, but Siena took control of the game in the second period, survived a Fener comeback in the third and cruised to victory after that. Ulker dropped to 2-7 after the loss and will need a miracle to advance to the Final 8.
Fenerbahce's new coach Ertugrul Erdogan didn't change the starting lineup. Andersen opened the score in the first period, followed by a triple by Bogdanovic to give Fenerbahce a 0-5 advantange. Siena claimed the lead after back-to-back three-pointers (10-9). After mutual scores another triple by Bogdanovic brought the advantage back to Fenerbahce, 15-18, but Siena's Hackett and Brown joined the triple shootout and put the home team ahead 21-18 after one quarter.
Mike Batiste evened the game at 21-21 in the beginning of the seconds period, and Ilkan Karaman's jumper made it 21-23. Siena scored six straight points for Siena (27-23), Fenerbahce closed the gap to 29-28 but the hosts pulled ayway to 36-28 again. Preldzic's foul shot didn't stop the momentum, Siena increased the lead to double digits (40-29) and cruised to a 49-35 advantage at the break.
Two Siena three-pointers increased the lead to 19 points in the beginning of the third period, 55-36, but Fenerbahce suddenly caught fire and made a 0-11 to make it 55-47. A free throw broke Siena's 4.5 minute scoring silence, followed by a triple by Sato to cut the gap to 56-50. Siena closed ranks and a series of foul shots made 65-53 after three quarters.
Fenerbahce committed two turnovers to start the final period, resulting in two triples by Siena to increase the lead to 71-53. With four minutes to play the home team was still firmly in command, 78-59. Andersen scored a basket and McCalebb and Sato each made two foul shots to cut it to 78-65, but that was as far as Siena allowed Fener to go.
