1 Round, 06/10/99
Maccabi Ironi Ramat Gan - Sparta Praha 99-71 (36-42)
(Hood 22, Lubin 15,
Dotan 14, Cansin 14, Yatzkan 13, Spencer 11, Galon 5, Cohen 3,
Markovitz 2 - Welsch 25, Milos 16, Dvorak 14, Starosta 8, Frana 4,
Dousa 4. FT 12/16 - 11/12, Three 11 (Hood 3/5, Yatzkan 3/9) - 8
(Welsch 3/4, Milos 3/6), Rebounds 26 - 29 (Dvorak 9), Fouls 17 – 15
Sparta played with only with 7 players
(injured Spicka and both playmakers Kroupa and Soukup) and
junior Sedlacek. Moreover Dousa (asthmatic player) had many problems
with his breathing. Sparta played first half excellent and led
about 6 points (36-42). In 20'49 by the collision with Hood injured
Vyoral (knee) and Frana followed with 5 fouls. Home team Maccabi
Ironi Ramat Gan begann wholly controlled this game (Sparta had many
turnovers) and with 9 three in the second half reached the 28-points
victory.
Maccabi Ramat Gan
continued its streak of wins they began the season with, in this
home win. The first half was bad for Ramat Gan, as they shot poorly
from the field and didn't play aggressive on defense. The second
half was all but the same. Ramat Gan tighten up the defense, started
stealing balls and ran on fast-breaks. And when Ramat-Gan runs on
fast breaks, boy can they run. They have a line-up of slick and
quick players, who all they need is the smallest sign of a
fast-break to open their after-burners and start running. Lior Lubin
point gaurded the game well for Ramat Gan, and the scoring was
divided equally between all of the players.
Maroussi BC Atenas (GRE) - KK Zagreb (CRO) 80-66
2 Round, 13/10/99
Sparta Praga (CZE) - Maroussi BC Atenas (GRE) 63-103
Milos
21, Dvorak 15, Starosta 14, Sedlacek 6, Vyoral 3, Dousa 2, Frana 1,
Welsch 1, Spicka 0 - Kapralis 17, Manopoulos 16, Panagiotarakos 16,
Panteliadis 15, Turner 13, Amaya 12, Papahronis 4, Haralambidis 4,
Korgas 3, Anagnostou 3. Three 9-10, FT 12/14-11/21, Fouls 19-17.
Score: 5' 11-8, 10' 18-20, 15' 25-37, 20' 31-44, 25' 35-54, 30'
46-69, 35' 50-84, 40' 63-103
Sparta played without both his injured playmaker (Kroupa, Soukup).
Jiri Welsch in this position played very bad with shoot 0/8 (three
0/4) and many mistakes. Only two players of Sparta had good level
(Milos: shoot 7/11, three 5/8, Dvorak: shoot 5/10, three 3/6, 7
rebounds), another played very feeble. Maroussi with 52% shoot
(41/66) incl. three 59% (10/17) won very easy.
Maccabi Ramat Gan (ISR) - KK Zagreb (CRO) 77-69
Ramat Gan: Steve
Hodd 18 pooints, Yariv Yatzkan 17 points, Antwan Johnson 14 points
(7 rebounds), Lior Lubin 13 points (6 assists), Andrei Spencer 9
points (10 rebounds), Yaron Lahat 4 points, Sa'ar Cohen 2 points.
Zagreb: Mazik 17 points, Stoichik 13 points.
Ramat Gan didn't
really close this game until the last minutes, and that's bad for
them. This should have been an easy win, a blow out actually, as
Ramat Gan is without a doubt a much more talented team than the
Croatians, and they top them in nearly every aspect of the game. But
for some reason, perhaps fatigue from playing their 4th game in only
10 days, Ramat Gan didn't manage to make a big run, and the
persistent Zagreb players kept coming back to the game. Ramat-Gan's
offense executed poorly in the first half, and the only thing that
kept them in the game was their pressing defense, and especially
Lior Lubin, that had 9 steals in the first half alone!
The game was tied with less than 6 minutes to go, but a small run by
Ramat Gan was enough to close this one and add another win for Ramat
Gan in Europe.
3 Round, 20/10/99
KK Zagreb (CRO) - Sparta Praga (CZE) 82-62
Maroussi BC Atenas (GRE) - Maccabi Ramat Gan (ISR) 81-77
4 Round, 03/11/99

Milos 13, Soukup 13, Spicka 11, Welsch 11, Frana
6, Dvorak 5, Starosta 4, Vyoral 3, Dousa 2 - Yatzkan 21, Sotan 14,
Spencer 13, Johnson-Cansin 10, Hood 7, Cohen 5, Lubin 1, Lahat 0,
Markovitz 0, 2pts 22/40 (Soukup 5/7, Welsch 5/8, Spicka 4/11)-23/41
(Dotan 7/8, Johnson 4/6, Spencer 4/9), 3pts 6/11 (Milos 3/5)-5/16 (Yatzkan
4/7, Dotan 0/5), FT 6/7-10/23 (Spencer 5/11), Reb. 33 (Dvorak 6,
Welsch 6)-22 (Johnson 7, Spencer 6), Fouls 18-15.
Sparta led most of the game. In 37' by 64-59 Yatzkan made three and
referees whistled at the same time the foul of the center of Sparta
Frana. Maccabi equalized to 64-64. The home head coach Jezdik was
dissatisfied with many decision of referees in the second half
namely in the finish of this game.

KK Zagreb (CRO) – Marousi (GRE) 73-69
Marousi lost the game but kept the goal average,
so they probably finish at the first place.
5 Round, 10/11/99
Maroussi BC Atenas (GRE)
- Sparta Praga (CZE) 85-82 (Amaya 27+4reb, Turner 15+6reb –
Welsch 20+5reb+9ast, Soukup 17)
KK Zagreb (CRO) - Maccabi Ramat Gan (ISR) 75-80
Zagreb: Stojic 17, Mazique 16, Anzulovic 11, Sarin 10,
Rimac 9, Perincic 8, Vukecvic 4.
Ramat Gan: Hood 22, Yatzkan 17, Johnson 16, Lubin 14, Spencer
9, Galon 2. Played but didn't score: Dotan, Cohen, Lahat, Markovitch.
Fantastic preformance by Ramat Gan.
Ramat Gan is having its best season in the past few years.
Zadar were having a slow day behind the arc with only 7/23.
Ramat Gan had a good team game, with 4 players scoring double
figures. Ramat Gan needs to win Maroussi (GRE) at home next week, to
finish 1st in the group.
6 Round, 17/11/99
Sparta Praha - KK Zagreb 51:62 (33:31) (Dvorak 13, Soukup 12,
Vyoral 8 - Perincic 16, Mazique 15, Rimac 12). FT: 15/7 - 15/12.
Fouls: 15:19. Three 6/15-6/22. Sparta played without his best
shooter Milos (angina). Sparta led in 16' 31-24, namely thanks to
Dvorak (13 pts and 4 blocks in the first half). Zagreb lowered in
the end of the first half when scored American Mazique. In the
beginning of the second half Zagreb made 10 points in a row. Home
team was in the second half very tired after the league game last
Monday. Only skilful Soukup had 4 steals and maintained the
opportunity for Sparta. Perincic and Rimac made three (both two
three in the second half) and decised about the victory of Zagreb. (Pavel)
