    SuperLeague Round 17: Ylli beat Rahoveci by one after a very close game - Feb 5, 2017

    The most exciting game of round 17 in the SuperLeague took place in Theranda. This derby game ended with only one-point home defeat of 6th ranked Rahoveci (6-9) to fifth ranked Ylli (8-8) 70-69 in the game for the fifth place. It ended at the same time the two-game winning streak of Rahoveci. The guests trailed by 1 point after three quarters before their 14-12 charge, which allowed them to win the game. Ylli forced 19 Rahoveci turnovers. American forward Chris Olivier (203-92, college: Oklahoma St.) saved the victory with a double-double by scoring 16 points and 12 rebounds. Center Ergin Grosha (211-93) contributed with 17 points and 9 rebounds for the winners. Center Besnik Sharku (203-89) answered with a double-double by scoring 14 points and 13 rebounds for Rahoveci. Ylli maintains fifth place with 8-8 record. Newly promoted Rahoveci keeps the sixth position with nine games lost. Ylli are looking forward to face league's second-placed Bashkimi in Prizren in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. Rahoveci will play on the road against Trepca (#4) in Mitrovice and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
    Another exciting game was a derby match between two teams from Prishtina: Sigal Prishtina (#1) and Kerasan (#8). Sigal Prishtina (13-2) crushed visiting Kerasan (0-17) by 53 points 114-61. The former international center Urim Zenelaj (213-91, agency: Interperformances) stepped up and scored 17 points, 5 rebounds and 6 assists (on 7-of-9 shooting from the field) for the winners and Fisnik Rugova chipped in 18 points and 7 rebounds. Rinor Ahmeti (188-96) responded with 18 points and 5 rebounds. The winner was already known earlier in the game, so both coaches allowed to play the bench players saving starting five for next games. Sigal Prishtina have an impressive series of thirteen victories in a row. Defending champion maintains first place with 13-2 record. Kerasan at the other side still closes the standings. Sigal Prishtina will play against Vellaznimi (#7) in Gjakove in the next round which should be theoretically another easy game. Kerasan will play on the road against Peja in Peje and hopes to get finally their first victory.
    Very important is a road loss of second ranked Peja (11-3) against fourth ranked Trepca (11-6) on Saturday night. Visiting Peja was defeated by Trepca in Mitrovice 83-65. American players dominated the game. Montrael Scott nailed 19 points, 7 rebounds and 4 assists for the winning side. Noah Dahlman came up with a double-double by scoring 14 points and 10 rebounds for Peja in the defeat. Trepca maintains fourth place with 11-6 record. Loser Peja dropped to the third position with three games lost. Trepca will meet at home Rahoveci (#6) in the next round. Peja will play against Kerasan and hope to secure a win.

    In the last game of round 17 Vellaznimi was smashed by Bashkimi on the road 90-59.

    Rahoveci - Ylli 69-70

    Bashkimi - Vellaznimi 90-59

    No shocking result in a game when second ranked Bashkimi (12-3) crushed 7th ranked Vellaznimi (2-15) in Prizren 90-59 on Sunday. The game without a history. Bashkimi led from the first minutes and controlled entire game increasing their lead in each quarter. Bashkimi forced 20 Vellaznimi turnovers and had a 18-7 advantage in offensive rebounds. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 26 assists comparing to just 11 passes made by Vellaznimi's players. Montenegrin Marko Popovic (200-85) nailed 24 points and 6 assists for the winning side and American forward Kayel Locke (196-94, college: NC-Greensboro) accounted for 19 points, 10 rebounds and 4 assists. Bashkimi's coach Dragan Radovic felt very confident that he used 11 players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Beqe Kovaqi (196-94) came up with 22 points and 6 rebounds and swingman Genti Zeka (195-87) added 9 points and 8 rebounds respectively for Vellaznimi in the defeat. Bashkimi maintains second place with 12-3 record behind leader Sigal Prishtina. Vellaznimi lost their fifth game in a row. They keep the seventh position with 15 games lost. Bashkimi will meet Ylli (#5) in the next round. Vellaznimi will play against the league's leader Sigal Prishtina and hope to secure a win.

Sigal Prishtina forced 19 Kerasan turnovers. They shot the lights out from three nailing 13 long-distance shots on high 56.5 percentage. Sigal Prishtina players were unselfish on offense dishing 28 assists comparing to just 6 passes made by Kerasan's players.     Trepca - Peja 83-65

    Very important is a road loss of second ranked Peja (11-3) against fourth ranked Trepca (11-6) on Saturday night. Visiting Peja was defeated by Trepca in Mitrovice 83-65. The game was mostly controlled by Trepca. Peja managed to win fourth quarter 20-14. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. They dominated down low during the game scoring 58 of its points in the paint compared to Peja's 38. American players dominated the game. Guard Montrael Scott (190-93, college: Prairie View A&M) nailed 19 points, 7 rebounds and 4 assists for the winning side and forward Eric Stutz (203-92, college: E.Kentucky) accounted for 17 points (perfect from the field making all seven shots !!!). Five Trepca players scored in double figures. Forward Noah Dahlman (201-89, college: Wofford) came up with a double-double by scoring 14 points and 10 rebounds and forward Jamie Skeen (205-88, college: VCU) added 17 points respectively for Peja in the defeat. Trepca maintains fourth place with 11-6 record. Loser Peja dropped to the third position with three games lost. Trepca will meet at home Rahoveci (#6) in the next round. Peja will play against Kerasan and hope to secure a win.
