BBC Sparta Bertrange
DBBL Champion 2006-07
T 71 -
Sparta 76-87
(Dudelange, Luxembourg)Larrie
Smith (195-F-75, college:
Tennessee Tech) and Co. did exactly what we predicted after game
#1. They played with poise, patience and the maturity of a
champion. T 71 stayed in the zone too long and Sparta picked it
apart with excellent ball and player movement. They took good shots
and they hit big three pointers all game long (57% on 9/16
shooting). Five different players hit threes(Christian Wulf 4/7).
Larrie Smith was unstoppable with 37 points and 14 rebounds. Chris
Martin (200-F-83, agency:
Rasmussen Services, college:
Elmhurst) injured his lower leg and sat for nearly 8 minutes
during the first half. He played hurt in the second half and could
only manage 13 points and 5 rebounds(again none on offense) T71
forced way too many shots, especially from behind the arc where
they went 9/30 for 30%. Sparta capialized on T71's impatience
throughout the match.
T 71 led after the first period 22-20. Sparta then went on a huge
run started by Tom Wagner's 2 three pointers and were able to take a
healthy lead into the locker room at the half. The third quarter
also belonged to Sparta and T71 got it together in the fourth
outscoring Sparta 25-19 but it was too little too late for the home
team. Christian Wulff ended up with 17 points, Ziai Sohrab had 13
points and 7 rebounds and the rest of Sparta's scoring was very
balanced. Tom Schumacher tried to single handedly bring T71 back in
the game several times and led his team with 26 points. Frank Muller
had a huge double-double with 20 points and 14 rebounds(9
offensive). The rest of T71's squad struggled to find good scoring
opportunities against Sparta's defense. Sparta also stuck most of
their free throws going 20/25 for 80% from the line where T71 failed
to produce shooting 11/20 for 56%.
Congratulations from Eurobasket to Sparta Bertrange and all of its
players coaches and supporters! They really deserve to be Champions
of the DBBL 2007!
