Second-best Valmiera (5-2) fell to eleventh ranked U18 (1-4) in overtime by four points 80-84. It ended at the same time the four-game winning streak of Valmiera. The best player for the winners was Davis Geks (190-G-95) who scored 30 points and 5 rebounds. U18's coach Nikolajs Mazurs allowed to play the deep bench players in such tough game. Newly promoted U18 maintains eleventh place with 1-4 record. Valmiera at the other side keeps the second position with two games lost. U18's next round opponent will be higher ranked Turiba (#9) on the road and it will be quite challenging to get another victory.
Barons kvartals (#8) forced the game against Jurmala (#6) into an overtime, but lost by four points 83-87 on Saturday night. It was a good game for Roberts Mednis who led his team to a victory with 19 points and 5 rebounds. Jurmala's coach Jevgenijs Kosuskins used a ten-player rotation in such tough game. Jurmala (4-3) moved-up to fifth place. Loser Barons kvartals keep the eighth position with five games lost. Jurmala will face higher ranked Latvijas Universitate (#3) in Riga in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory.

U18 - Valmiera 84-80 OT

Second-best Valmiera (5-2) fell to eleventh ranked U18 (1-4) in overtime by four points 80-84. It ended at the same time the four-game winning streak of Valmiera. The hosts were already 12 points ahead after 3 quarters before a 28-16 Valmiera's run in the last quarter tied the game, leading to overtime which they eventually won 13-9. 24 personal fouls committed by Valmiera helped opponents get some easy free throw opportunities. The best player for the winners was guard Davis Geks (190-95) who scored 30 points and 5 rebounds. Center Andzejs Pasecniks (211-95) chipped in 20 points and 7 rebounds. U18's coach Nikolajs Mazurs allowed to play the deep bench players in such tough game. At the other side the best for losing team was power forward Artjoms Butjankovs (205-91, agency: FCM) who recorded a double-double by scoring 16 points and 15 rebounds and the former international forward Janis Porzingis (201-82, agency: Interperformances) added 18 points and 7 rebounds respectively. Five Valmiera players scored in double figures. Newly promoted U18 maintains eleventh place with 1-4 record. Valmiera at the other side keeps the second position with two games lost. U18's next round opponent will be higher ranked Turiba (#9) on the road and it will be quite challenging to get another victory.

Jurmala - Barons kvartals 87-83 OT

Barons kvartals (#8) forced the game against Jurmala (#6) into an overtime, but lost by four points 83-87 on Saturday night. The hosts were tied at the half and again at the end of regular time. But they managed to win overtime period 14-10. Jurmala forced 25 Barons kvartals turnovers. Barons kvartals were plagued by 32 personal fouls down the stretch. It was a good game for center Roberts Mednis (204-89) who led his team to a victory with 19 points and 5 rebounds. American guard Ken Brown (185-89, college: Philander Smith) contributed with 14 points and 8 assists for the winners. Four Jurmala players scored in double figures. Jurmala's coach Jevgenijs Kosuskins used a ten-player rotation in such tough game. Portuguese forward Maris Gulbis (202-85, agency: Players Group) answered with 34 points (!!!) (went 8 for 8 at the free throw line) and swingman Salvis Metra (195-84) added 15 points, 8 rebounds and 6 assists in the effort for Barons kvartals. Jurmala (4-3) moved-up to fifth place. Loser Barons kvartals keep the eighth position with five games lost. Jurmala will face higher ranked Latvijas Universitate (#3) in Riga in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory.

Ventspils - Liepaja 82-62

No shocking result in a game when fourth ranked Ventspils (4-1) crushed at home 7th ranked Liepaja (3-4) 82-62 on Saturday. The game without a history. Ventspils led from the first minutes and controlled entire game increasing their lead in each quarter. They dominated down low during the game scoring 46 of its points in the paint compared to Liepaja's 26 and made 18-of-23 free shots (78.3 percent) during the game. Liepaja was plagued by 24 personal fouls down the stretch. It was a good game for American guard Folarin Campbell (192-86, college: George Mason) who led his team to a victory with 17 points and 4 steals. The former international power forward Ronalds Zakis (207-87) contributed with 13 points for the winners. point guard Ingus Jakovics (185-93) answered with 14 points and guard Artis Ate (191-89) added 11 points in the effort for Liepaja. Both coaches used bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Ventspils maintains fourth place with 4-1 record. Liepaja lost third consecutive game. They dropped to the sixth position with four games lost. Both teams do not play next round, which will be an opportunity for some rest.

Turiba - Jelgava 103-76

There was an upset when higher ranked Jelgava (3-4) was smashed on the road by tenth ranked Turiba (2-5) 103-76 on Saturday. The game was mostly controlled by Turiba. Jelgava was better in third quarter 20-14. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. Turiba had a 36-21 advantage in offensive rebounds. They shot the lights out from three sinking 16 long-distance shots on high 51.6 percentage. Turiba looked well-organized offensively handing out 21 assists. It was a good game for forward Karlis Apsitis (200-92) who led his team to a victory with a double-double by scoring 21 points, 11 rebounds and 6 assists. Forward Matiss Rudmiezis (190-91) contributed with 23 points for the winners. Five Turiba players scored in double figures. American center Aaron Brackett (204-90, college: NC-Greensboro) answered with a double-double by scoring 16 points and 11 rebounds and forward Arturs Duselis (201-89) added 12 points and 6 rebounds in the effort for Jelgava. The winner was already known earlier in the game, so both coaches allowed to play the bench players saving starting five for next games. Turiba moved-up to eighth place, which they share with Barons kvartals and Jekabpils. Loser Jelgava dropped to the sixth position with four games lost. Turiba will face Jekabpils (#8) in the next round.
