LBL is at the halfway of the Regular Season and there are still another 10 rounds left. Host teams show no mercy winning all games.

The game had a very big importance for third-ranked Latvijas Universitate as it allowed them to take a leadership position. Latvijas Universitate defeated one of their biggest challengers Jurmala in Riga 66-62. It ended at the same time the two-game winning streak of Jurmala. It was a key game for the top position in the league. The hosts trailed by 7 points after three quarters before their 20-9 charge, which allowed them to win the game. Latvijas Universitate made 16-of-21 free shots (76.2 percent) during the game. They also forced 19 Jurmala turnovers. Guard Kristaps Dargais (198-G-90) had a double-double by scoring 16 points, 10 rebounds and 4 assists to lead the charge for the winners and guard Zanis Peiners (204-90, agency: Interperformances) chipped in 15 points and 8 rebounds during the contest. Latvijas Universitate's coach Arturs Visockis-Rubenis used a ten-player rotation in such tough game. At the losing side forward Atis Ozols (199-81) responded with 14 points and 8 rebounds. As mentioned above they are alone now at the top position. Newly promoted Jurmala keeps the fourth place with four games lost. Jurmala will have a break next week, which should allow them to rest in order to get back on the winning path. Latvijas Universitate will try to continue on its current victory against third ranked Valmiera on the road.

Host team only slightly avoided a big embarassment. American guard Ken Brown (185-89, college: Philander Smith) notched 19 points and 4 assists to lead the effort and Atis Ozols supported him with 14 points, 7 rebounds and 5 assists. Jurmala's coach Jevgenijs Kosuskins allowed to play the deep bench players in such tough game. Even 29 points, 7 rebounds and 6 assists by American forward P.J. Hill jr. (182-87, college: Ohio St.) did not help to save the game for Jekabpils. Newly promoted Jurmala maintains fourth position with 5-4 record. Jekabpils lost third consecutive game. Jekabpils at the other side, also newcomer in the league, dropped to the eighth place with six games lost. They share the position with Turiba. Both teams do not play next round, which will be an opportunity for some rest.
Eighth ranked Turiba (3-6) crushed at home 11th ranked U18 (1-5) by 17 points 81-64, which is the biggest margin this round on Wednesday night. Mikus Sokolovs fired 21 points, 5 rebounds and 4 assists for the winners. Andzejs Pasecniks produced a double-double by scoring 13 points and 11 rebounds for lost side. Both coaches used bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Turiba maintains eighth position with 3-6 record, which they share with Jekabpils. Newly promoted U18 stay at the bottom place with five games lost. Turiba will have a break next round, and it should allow them to practice more before next game. U18 will play against Jelgava (#6).

In the last game of round 10 Turiba lost to Jekabpils on the opponent's court 75-91.
The most impressive stats of the last round was 24 points and 12 rebounds by Todd O'Brien of Jekabpils.

LU - Jurmala 66-62

Jekabpils - Turiba 91-75

There was a minor upset when 8th ranked Turiba (3-6) was defeated on the road by tenth ranked Jekabpils (3-6) 91-75 on Saturday. The hosts trailed by 3 points after first quarter, but they stormed back to get the 10-point lead at the halftime and eventually won the game 91-75. Jekabpils outrebounded Turiba 47-23 including a 29-14 advantage in defensive rebounds. American forward P.J. Hill jr. (182-87, college: Ohio St.) fired 34 points (!!!) and 4 assists for the winners. The other American import center Todd O'Brien (213-89, college: UAB) chipped in a double-double by scoring 24 points and 12 rebounds (on 11-of-12 shooting from the field). Hill jr. is a former Eurobasket Summer League player, which is considered top international summer league in the market. Center Guntis Sipolins (206-93) produced 15 points and guard Mikus Sokolovs (195-89) added 9 points and 7 assists respectively for lost side. Both coaches used bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Jekabpils moved-up to eighth place, which they share with defeated Turiba. Both teams do not play next round, which will be an opportunity for some rest.

Eighth ranked Turiba (3-6) crushed at home 11th ranked U18 (1-5) by 17 points 81-64, which is the biggest margin this round on Wednesday night. The hosts trailed by 9 points after first quarter, but they stormed back and won the game by 17 points. Turiba outrebounded U18 44-31 including 30 on the defensive glass. Guard Mikus Sokolovs (195-89) fired 21 points, 5 rebounds and 4 assists for the winners. Center Guntis Sipolins (206-93) chipped in 13 points and 9 rebounds. Four Turiba players scored in double figures. Center Andzejs Pasecniks (211-95) produced a double-double by scoring 13 points and 11 rebounds and guard Kristaps Gluditis (192-95) added 14 points respectively for lost side. Both coaches used bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Turiba maintains eighth position with 3-6 record, which they share with Jekabpils. Former international Center Lauris Blaus (208-C-90) put on an amazing game in the last round for second-ranked Valmiera, receiving a Court Side Player of the Week award for round 22. The 26-year old player was the main contributor (25 points, eight rebounds and four assists) to his team's victory, helping them to crush BK Ogre (#8, 8-13) with 18-point margin 97-79. He has played for the last two seasons at Turk Telekom in Turkish BSL league. In 6 games he recorded 4.2ppg, 1.0rpg and 2.2apg last season.
