Todd O'Brien
American center Todd O'Brien (213-C-89) had a very impressive game in the last round for Jekabpils, receiving a Eurobasket.com Player of the Week award for round 10.
The 23-year old player had a double-double of 24 points and 12 rebounds, while his team crushed Turiba (3-6) with 16-point margin 91-75. Jekabpils is placed at 8th position in Latvian LBL. Jekabpils is rather a weak team placed in lower part in the standings. They need more victories to improve their 3-6 record. O'Brien turned to be Jekabpils' top player in his first season with the team. Former University of Alabama at Birmingham star has very solid stats this year. O'Brien is in league's top in points (8th best: 14.2ppg), rebounds (3rd best: 8.3rpg) and averages impressive 54.7% FGP.

The second best player in last round's games was young Kristaps Dargais (198-G-90) of league's leader LU. Dargais had a very good evening with a double-double of 16 points and 10 rebounds. It was enough for LU to edge the lower-ranked Jurmala (#4, 5-4) 66-62. It was definitely game of the week between two contenders to the title. LU consolidated its place in the very top position of the standings. His team has currently 6-3 record. Dargais is well-known at LU and is a proven leader in his second season with the team.

Third on the list of top players last round was another Jekabpils' star - American forward P.J. Hill jr. (182-F-87). Hill jr. got into 30-points club by scoring 34 points in the last round. He went also for four assists. He was another key player of Jekabpils, helping his team with a 91-75 easy win against Turiba (3-6). The chances of Jekabpils not to end season at such low position in the league, however are less than slim as they have already lost 6 games, recording just three victories. With bigger assistance of his teammates, Hill jr. could try to bring Jekabpils' a little bit higher in the standings. Hill jr. has individually a great season in Latvia. After only 9 games, he made it on the list of the league's leaders in points with 17.9ppg (3rd best). Hill jr. attended one of camps at Eurobasket Summer League on his way to pro basketball.

Other top performing players last week:
4. Jurijs Aleksejevs (202-C-85) of Jekabpils - 22 points and 10 rebounds
5. Andzejs Pasecniks (211-C-95) of U18 - 13 points and 11 rebounds
6. P.J. Hill jr. (182-F-87) of Jekabpils - 29 points, 7 rebounds and 6 assists
7. Mikus Sokolovs (195-G-89) of Turiba - 21 points, 5 rebounds and 4 assists
8. Martins Vinauds (194-F-91) of Turiba - 18 points, 3 rebounds and 2 assists
9. Guntis Sipolins (206-C-93) of Turiba - 13 points and 9 rebounds
10. Ken Brown (185-G-89) of Jurmala - 19 points, 4 rebounds and 4 assists

The Player of the week is choosen based on efficiency calculation, but also including game result, importance of the game, if played recorded double-double/triple-double, etc.
The efficiency formula is a combination of various formulas used by different basketball organizations/leagues. We got involved many basketball scouts and journalists to assure it's accuracy.
The formula: 1.5*PTS + 3*(REB+AST+ST+BL-TO) - 2*BSAG - 4*PF + 3*PFRV + 4*(2FGPM+3FGPM) + 1.5*FTM - 3*(2FGPA-2FGPM) - 3*(3FGPA-3FGPM) - (FTA-FTM)
