Arturs Duselis (201-F-89) had an amazing evening in the last round for Jelgava and that's him to receive a Eurobasket.com Player of the Week award for round 11.
The 23-year old forward had the game-high 22 points adding two assists for Jelgava in his team's victory, helping them to outclass U18 (#11, 1-6) with 30-point margin 105-75. Jelgava maintains the 6th position in Latvian LBL. Jelgava is a typical solid league team placed somewhere in the middle or a little bit lower in the standings. They need more victories to improve their 4-4 record. It's Duselis' second year at Jelgava and it's hard to imagine this team without him. Arturs Duselis averages this season 10.5ppg.

The second most remarkable performance in last round's games was 27-year old Portuguese forward Maris Gulbis (202-F-85, agency: Players Group) of Barons kvartals. Gulbis impressed basketball fans with 24 points and 6 rebounds. Of course Barons kvartals cruised to a 73-63 relatively comfortable win over Liepaja (3-5). This victory allowed Barons kvartals to move up to 7th position in the standings. His team is not often considered as one of the league's best with a mere 3-5 record. Gulbis is a newcomer at Barons kvartals and it seems he did not have too much trouble to become one of team's leaders. He belongs to the best scorers in the league with 22.4ppg (#1). He also registered 6.1 boards per game.

The third best performed player last round was another Jelgava's star - Latvian Sandis Silavs (195-G-88). Silavs showcased his all-around game by recording 16 points, nine rebounds and four assists in the last round. He was another key player of Jelgava, helping his team with a 105-75 easy win against the lower-ranked U18 (#11, 1-6). Jelgava needs these victories very badly if they think about getting closer to top teams. Their record at this point is 4 victories and 4 lost games. Silavs has a great season in Latvia. After only 8 games, he made it on the list of the league's leaders in assists with 3.5apg (5th best).

Other top performing players last week:
4. Andzejs Pasecniks (211-C-95) of U18 - 15 points and 4 rebounds
5. Andris Justovics (200-F-89) of Jelgava - 15 points and 5 rebounds
6. Janis Berzins (202-F-93) of Valmiera - 15 points and 7 rebounds
7. Maris Ziedins (203-F/C-90) of Valmiera - 8 points and 9 rebounds
8. Greg Plater (185-G-89) of Liepaja - 16 points, 5 rebounds and 3 assists
9. Artjoms Butjankovs (205-F/C-91) of Valmiera - 17 points and 7 rebounds
10. Lauris Mizis (198-F-89) of Jelgava - 8 points, 9 rebounds and 3 assists

The Player of the week is chosen based on efficiency calculation, but also including game result, importance of the game, if played recorded double-double/triple-double, etc.
The efficiency formula is a combination of various formulas used by different basketball organizations/leagues. We got involved many basketball scouts and journalists to assure it's accuracy.
The formula: 1.5*PTS + 3* (REB+AST+ST+BL-TO) - 2*BSAG - 4*PF + 3*PFRV + 4* (2FGPM+3FGPM) + 1.5*FTM - 3* (2FGPA-2FGPM) - 3* (3FGPA-3FGPM) - (FTA-FTM)

American Damier Pitts (177-PG-89) had an amazing evening in the last round for league's second-best Valmiera and that's him to receive a Eurobasket.com Player of the Week award for round 26. LBL Round 26: Barons Riga beat VEF Riga in a derby game - 2 days ago
The Regular Season in LBL is slowly approaching the end. But there may be still some important changes in the final standings in the last 5 rounds. The most interesting game was a derby match between two local teams from Riga: Barons Riga (#6) and VEF Riga (#4). Barons Riga (12-12) won against visiting VEF Riga (12-4) 80-71. The hosts took control from the first minutes by winning the initial quarter 29-21. But VEF Riga won second period 19-17. However it was not enough to take a lead a...   [read more]
