Brown's 27 points and 5 assists give him Player of the Week award - Nov 27, 2012

Ken Brown
23-year old guard Ken Brown (185-G-89) put on an amazing game in the last round for Jurmala and receives a Eurobasket.com Player of the Week award for round 12.
He had the game-high 27 points adding three rebounds and five assists for Jurmala in his team's victory, helping them to beat Liepaja (#9, 3-6) 97-86. Jurmala is placed at 3rd position in Latvian league. They would have been even better if they hadn't lost a few games earlier this season. Jurmala will need more victories to improve their 6-4 record. Brown turned to be Jurmala's top player in his first season with the team. Philander Smith College graduate has very impressive stats this year. Brown is in league's top in points (4th best: 15.9ppg), assists (5th best: 3.6apg) and averages solid 53.7% FGP.

Second best performed player last round was Todd O'Brien (213-C-89) of Jekabpils. He is American center in his first season at Jekabpils. In the last game O'Brien recorded impressive double-double of 24 points and 15 rebounds. It was enough for Jekabpils to edge slightly higher-ranked Jelgava (#7, 4-5) by 1 point 104-103. Jekabpils' 8th position in the standings has not changed. His team is not often considered as one of the league's best with a mere 4-6 record. O'Brien is a newcomer at Jekabpils and quickly became one of team's most reliable players. He belongs to the best scorers in the league with 15.2ppg (#6). He also registered 9.0 boards per game.

Third place about best performers goes to swingman Salvis Metra (195-G/F-84) of Barons kvartals (#6). Metra scored 27 points and grabbed six rebounds. He was a key player of Barons kvartals, leading his team to a 75-68 win against the higher-ranked Valmiera (#2, 6-3). The chances of Barons kvartals ranking at the top of the league, however are very questionable as they have already lost 5 games, recording just four victories. With bigger assistance of his teammates, Metra could help Barons kvartals to bring them higher in the standings. Metra has a great season in Latvia. After only 9 games, he made it on the list of the league's leaders in points with 13.9ppg (8th best) and assists with 3.6apg (6th best).

Other top performing players last week:
4. Sandis Silavs (195-G-88) of Jelgava - 20 points, 3 rebounds and 7 assists
5. Janis Timma (201-F-92) of Ventspils - 19 points and 5 rebounds
6. Kristaps Kanbergs (190-G-88) of Jelgava - 24 points, 7 rebounds and 3 assists
7. Kristaps Dargais (198-G-90) of LU - 18 points and 9 rebounds
8. Kaspars Berzins (213-PF-85) of VEF Riga - 19 points and 8 rebounds
9. Maris Gulbis (202-F-85) of Barons kvartals - 21 points, 10 rebounds and 2 assists
10. Michal Hlebowicki (204-C-76) of Jekabpils - 14 points, 7 rebounds and 4 assists

The Player of the week is choosen based on efficiency calculation, but also including game result, importance of the game, if played recorded double-double/triple-double, etc.
The efficiency formula is a combination of various formulas used by different basketball organizations/leagues. We got involved many basketball scouts and journalists to assure it's accuracy.
The formula: 1.5*PTS + 3*(REB+AST+ST+BL-TO) - 2*BSAG - 4*PF + 3*PFRV + 4*(2FGPM+3FGPM) + 1.5*FTM - 3*(2FGPA-2FGPM) - 3*(3FGPA-3FGPM) - (FTA-FTM)
