Here is the weekly review of the top performing Latvian players, who play currently abroad.

   #1. This week's number one is an international small forward Davis Bertans (203-92, currently plays in Euroleague). He led his Serbian team Partizan to a 1-point victory over the closely-ranked Lietuvos rytas (1-7) 75-74 in the Euroleague in Thursday night's game. Bertans was MVP of the game. He scored 14 points and grabbed 6 rebounds in 26 minutes on the court. BC Partizan MT:S Beograd (2-7) is placed fifth in group D. Bertans' team will play only one more game in the Euroleague Regular Season. And that game will be critical. It's Bertans' first season with the team. This year he averages: 6.7ppg, 2.4rpg, 1.1spg, 2FGP: 23.5%, 3FGP: 46.7%(14-30) and FT: 62.5% in the nine games he played so far. Bertans is currently a member of the Latvian senior national team.

   #2. Second place goes to an experienced former international swingman Juris Umbrasko (197-79, currently plays in Baltic League). He was the major contributor in a BC Rakvere's victory against the sixth-ranked Tln Kalev (1-7) 95-85 in the Baltic League last Saturday. Umbrasko scored 23 points and grabbed 6 rebounds. BC Rakvere Tarvas (5-3) is placed second in group C. It was his team's fourth consecutive victory in a row. There are only two games left until the end of the Baltic League Regular Season. So now every game is very crucial. Umbrasko has relatively good stats this season: 14.6ppg, 5.9rpg, 1.8spg, 2FGP: 46.2%, 3FGP: 39.7%. He played for the Latvian national team in 2008.

   #3. The Latvian player who performed third best last week abroad was an international point guard Janis Strelnieks (191-89, currently plays in Eurocup). Strelnieks led his Russian team Spartak St.Petersburg to an easy victory against the closely-ranked Cibona (0-5) crushing them 93-60 in the Eurocup on Wednesday night. He scored 12 points in 21 minutes. It was the game of the round between two top 4 ranked teams. Spartak St.Petersburg (5-0) is placed first in the Eurocup. So far his team won all five games in the Regular Season. They will play only one more game in the Eurocup Regular Season. And now that game is quite important. This year Strelnieks' overall stats are: 6.0ppg, 2.8apg, 2FGP: 66.7%, 3FGP: 27.3% in the five games. He is also a member of the Latvian senior national team.

   #4. Forward Ernests Kalve (200-87, currently plays in EuroChallenge), who plays in Hungary could not help Szolnok (2-3) in their last game on Tuesday. Despite Kalve's very good performance the third-placed Szolnok was defeated 94-83 at home by the second-ranked Kormend in the group F of EuroChallenge. He was the second best scorer with 20 points. Kalve also added 7 rebounds. His team will play only one more game in the EuroChallenge Regular Season. And now that game is extremely important. This season Kalve has relatively solid stats: 14.0ppg and 6.4rpg. He used to play for the Latvian national team back in 2010.

   #5. Former international forward Maris Laksa (205-81, college: Providence, currently plays in Baltic League) is a teammate of previously mentioned Juris Umbrasko and both played together in the last Baltic League game. Laksa led his Estonian team BC Rakvere to a victory against the sixth-ranked Tln Kalev (1-7) 95-85. He scored 20 points and grabbed 7 rebounds in 30 minutes. Laksa has reliable stats this year: 11.8ppg and 4.3rpg in the eight games. He used to play for the Latvian national team nine years ago.

   #6. Shooting guard Janis Blums (191-82, currently plays in VTB United League), who plays in Lithuania was not able to help Lietuvos rytas (3-4) in their last game on Monday. Despite Blums' good performance Lietuvos rytas (#6) was defeated 80-69 on the road by the leading Khimky in the group A of VTB United League. He was the second best scorer with 12 points. Blums' total stats this season are: 10.0ppg, 1.8rpg, 2.0apg and 1.2spg. He is an international player who is currently on the senior Latvian National Team roster.

   #7. Former international center Kaspars Cipruss (210-82, currently plays in Baltic League), who plays in Lithuania was not able to secure a victory for Lietkabelis (6-2) in their last game. Despite Cipruss' good performance Lietkabelis (#2) was crushed 99-69 in Tartu by the leading TU/Rock in the group B of Baltic League. He had a double-double by scoring 12 points and getting 10 rebounds in 21 minutes. They ended the series of four consecutive victories. There are only two games left until the end of the Baltic League Regular Season. Cipruss is currently sixth on the league's list of best rebounders with 8.3rpg. He also averaged so far 10.6ppg and 1.4apg in the eight games. Cipruss used to play for the Latvian national team four years ago.

   #8. Point guard Edgars Jeromanovs (186-86, currently plays in EuroChallenge), who plays in Sweden couldn't help Norrkoping Dolphins (2-3) in their last game on Tuesday. Despite his very good performance Norrkoping Dolphins (#3) was defeated 67-62 in Sodertalje by the second-ranked Kings in the group C of EuroChallenge. Jeromanovs was the top scorer with 20 points. He also added 5 rebounds. Jeromanovs' team will play only one more game in the EuroChallenge Regular Season. Jeromanovs averaged so far 12.0ppg, 2.6rpg, 4.0apg and 1.8spg. He plays currently for the Latvian national team.

   #9. International point guard Kaspars Vecvagars (193-93, currently plays in Baltic League) is a teammate of previously mentioned Kaspars Cipruss. But that was another game of his team in Baltic League which we would like to mention. Vecvagars contributed to an easy victory against the sixth-ranked Valga (1-7) 75-58. He recorded 8 points, 6 rebounds and 3 assists in 24 minutes. Panevezys Lietkabelis (6-2) is placed second in group B. It was his team's fourth consecutive victory in a row. This year Vecvagars' total stats are: 6.4ppg, 3.1rpg and 2.1apg in the eight games. He is also in the roster of the Latvian national team.

Swingman Mareks Jurevicus (197-85, currently plays in Italy) led Prima Veroli to a victory over the closely-ranked Fileni BPA Jesi (3-6) 69-64 in the Italian Lega2 (second division) in Sunday night's game. Jurevicus was the best player in that game. He scored 20 points and grabbed 4 rebounds. Prima Veroli (3-6) is placed 11th in the Lega2. It was his team's first victory after four consecutive loses. But this is still an early stage of the season and everything may happen. Jurevicus has individually a very good year with high stats. He averages: 15.4ppg, 4.0rpg, 1.6apg and 1.9spg. Jurevicus is international player as one years ago he still played for the Latvian senior national team.

   #11. Former international guard Kristaps Valters (190-81, currently plays in Spain) contributed to an overtime Baloncesto Fuenlabrada's victory against the tenth-ranked Blancos de Rueda 104-102 in the Spanish ACB last Saturday. He recorded 15 points in 24 minutes. It was his first game for Baloncesto Fuenlabrada this season. Valters used to play for the Latvian national team three years ago.

   #12. Former international center Andris Biedrins (213-86, currently plays in NBA) managed to help Golden State Warriors to win against the Denver Nuggets 106-105 in the NBA on Thursday night. He scored only 2 points. Biedrins has averaged so far 0.6ppg and 2.7rpg. He used to play for the Latvian national team back in 2009.

   #13. International guard Armands Skele (192-83, currently plays in Baltic League) contributed to Kalev/Cramo's victory against the fourth-ranked KK Parnu 73-60 in the Baltic League in Wednesday night's game. Skele scored 9 points, had 5 boards, dished 4 assists and stole 5 balls in 28 minutes. It was his first game for Kalev/Cramo this season. Skele is also Latvian national team player.

   #14. Former international center Raitis Grafs (208-81, college: Valparaiso, currently plays in Estonia), who plays in the Estonian KML couldn't help Valga (5-6) in their last game on Tuesday. Despite his good performance Valga was edged 69-67 on their home court in Valga by the second-ranked BC Rakvere. Grafs was the second best scorer with 13 points. He also added 6 rebounds and dished 3 assists. Grafs averaged so far 12.1ppg, 7.0rpg and 1.6apg. He used to play for the Latvian national team back in 2010.

   #15. Former international forward Ivars Timermanis (203-82, currently plays in Romania) contributed to an easy victory against the 14th-ranked Miercurea Ciuc crushing them 95-69 in the Romanian Division A on Friday night. Timermanis recorded 8 points and added 4 passes in 22 minutes. Timermanis has averaged so far 8.3ppg, 2.7rpg and 1.2apg in the 10 games. He used to play for the Latvian national team five years ago.


The list of other players, who all have Latvian passport but never been selected to any of Latvian national teams:

   #1. Edmunds Tukiss (200-SF-89, currently plays in Germany) led Dragons Rhoendorf to a victory against the eighth-ranked Bayer Giants (5-5) 75-71 in the German ProB (third division) in Saturday night's game. Tukiss recorded 11 points and blocked 2 shots. Dragons Rhoendorf (10-0) is placed first in Group South. So far his team won all ten games in the Regular Season. Tukiss averaged so far 11.1ppg and 2.9rpg.

   #2. Martins Berkis (198-F-85, currently plays in Hungary), who plays in the Hungarian A Division could not help Marso NYKK (3-7) to beat Albacomp (8-2). He recorded 7 points and grabbed 11 rebounds in 38 minutes. Marso NYKK was crushed 81-53 on the road by the second-ranked Albacomp. It was Marso NYKK's third consecutive loss in a row. Berkis has individually a very good year with high stats. He averages: 16.5ppg, 5.6rpg, 2.4apg and 1.4spg in the 10 games he played so far.

   #3. Martins Abele (216-C-90, currently plays college basketball in the States) contributed to Duquesne's surprising victory against the University of Maine 87-73 in the NCAA in Saturday night's game. Abele scored 7 points and grabbed 5 rebounds. The University of Duquesne has conference record this season. This year Abele has very high stats. He averages: 16.5ppg, 5.6rpg, 2.4apg and 1.4spg.

   #4. Matiss Sakne (191-G-91, currently plays in Denmark) managed to help Horsens IC in a victory against the league outsider Aalborg (1-13) 85-71 in the Danish Ligaen in Wednesday night's game. Sakne scored only 4 points in 22 minutes. Horsens IC (10-4) is placed third in the Ligaen. Sakne has averaged so far 4.7ppg, 1.4rpg and 1.3apg in the 13 games.

26-year old guard Nauris Miezis (189-G-91) put on an extraordinary performance in the last round for league's best team Kekava and receives a Eurobasket.com LBL2 Player of the Week award for round 3. He had the game-high 38 points adding six rebounds and two assists for Kekava in his team's victory, helping them to outclass, the league's bottom-ranked team Madona (#6, 0-2) with 55-point margin 115-60. LBL2 Round 3: RSU hands first loss to Memele/Bauskas - 1 day ago
The fans could enjoy quite many interesting games in the last round. The round ended with defeat of the leader, derby games and favorites losing the games. The most crucial game of the last round was a loss of Memele/Bauskas (2-1) in Riga on Thursday night. Visitors were rolled over by RSU (2-1) 108-67. RSU dominated down low during the game scoring 68 of its points in the paint compared to Memele/Bauskas' 32. Traditionally, every week we bring you a list of the top performances of Latvians who are currently playing abroad. This week's number one is an international center Anzejs Pasecniks (218-95). He could not help Gran Canaria (1-1) in their last game.
