Here is the weekly review of the top performing Latvian players, who play currently abroad.


Zane Teilane-Tamane

   #1. This week's number one is an international center Zane Teilane-Tamane (200-83, agency: LBM Management, college: W.Illinois, currently plays in Russia). She led Nadezhda Orenburg to a victory against one of league's weakest teams Dynamo-GUVD (2-8) 83-69 in the Russian PBL in Sunday night's game. Teilane-Tamane had a double-double by scoring 16 points and getting 10 rebounds. She also added and 5 steals in 28 minutes on the court. Nadezhda Orenburg (7-3) is placed fourth in the PBL. It's Teilane-Tamane's first season with the team. This year Teilane-Tamane averages: 9.8ppg, 7.4rpg, 1.7apg, 1.3spg, 2FGP: 58.8%(40-68) and FT: 81.8% in the 10 games she played so far. She is currently a member of the Latvian senior national team.

   #2. Second place goes to an international center Ieva Kublina (193-82, college: Virginia Tech, currently plays in Hungary). Kublina led UNI Gyor to a victory over the sixth-ranked ZTE NKK (9-7) 75-57 in the Hungarian A Division last Sunday. She was MVP of the game. Kublina recorded 18 points, 5 rebounds and 3 assists. HAT-AGRO UNI Gyor (13-3) is placed second in the A Division. It was her team's third consecutive victory in a row. There are only two games left until the end of the Regular Season. So now every game will be critical. Kublina has relatively good stats this season: 12.8ppg, 6.0rpg, 2.2apg, 2FGP: 56.1%(60-107), 3FGP: 45.5%(10-22) and FT: 89.4%. She is in the roster of the Latvian senior national team.

Gunta Basko

   #3. The Latvian player who performed third best last week abroad was an experienced former international forward Gunta Basko (181-80, agency: Josep and Nicolas, college: Siena, currently plays in France), who plays in the French LFB. She could not help Nantes Reze (8-7) in their last game on Saturday. Despite Basko's good performance Nantes Reze was edged 56-55 on the road by the lower-ranked Villeneuve D'Ascq (#12). She scored 10 points and grabbed 8 rebounds. This season Basko has relatively solid stats: 10.6ppg, 5.6rpg, 1.5apg, 2FGP: 57.9%(33-57), 3FGP: 19.4% and FT: 73.2%. Former TTT Riga starter played for the Latvian national team two years ago.

Aija Brumermane

   #4. Center Aija Brumermane (191-86, agency: Regeneracom Sports, currently plays in Hungary) was the main contributor in Bacsbasket's victory against the closely-ranked Atomeromu (10-5) 79-61 in the Hungarian A Division last Saturday. She was the best player in that game. Brumermane recorded 18 points and grabbed 5 rebounds in 26 minutes. Bacsbasket Kft. Baja (9-7) is placed fifth in the A Division. There are only two games left until the end of the Regular Season. So now every game is very crucial. Brumermane is currently fifth on the list of best rebounders and also on the list of best blockers (fifth place). She has very reliable stats this year: 10.6ppg, 6.5rpg and 1.6apg in the 14 games. Brumermane is also Latvian national team player.

Aija Putnina

   #5. International power forward Aija Putnina (191-88, also represented by Josep and Nicolas, currently plays in Spain) contributed to an Navarra Pamplona's victory against the closely-ranked Jopisa Burgos (4-6) 65-60 in the Spanish LFB on Saturday night. She scored 11 points. UNB Obenasa Navarra Pamplona (5-5) is placed fifth in the LFB. Putnina is currently fourth on the list of top scorers and also on the list of best rebounders (fourth place). She has individually a very good season with high stats. Putnina averages: 16.8ppg, 7.8rpg and 1.1spg. She plays currently for the Latvian national team.

   #6. Guard Baiba Eglite (179-89, college: UTEP, currently plays in Czech Republic) was the major contributor in a 1-point Lokomotiva Karlovy Vary's victory against the fourth-ranked Kara Trutnov (10-7) 66-65 in the Czech Republic ZBL in Sunday night's game. Eglite scored 14 points and grabbed 5 rebounds in 25 minutes; quite an impressive performance considering it's only her third season in pro basketball. BK Lokomotiva Karlovy Vary (7-10) is placed eighth in the ZBL. This year Eglite's overall stats are: 5.7ppg and 3.5rpg in the 17 games. She is an international player who is currently on the senior Latvian National Team roster.

   #7. U20 international forward Sabine Dukate (174-93, currently plays in Lithuania) was not able to help Suduva (9-5) in their game against Kibirkstis-Tiche (13-1) in the Lithuanian LMKL. Dukate scored 7 points, grabbed 5 boards, dished 3 assists and stole 3 balls. Suduva was defeated 81-73 at home by the leading Kibirkstis-Tiche. They ended the series of three consecutive victories. Dukate's total stats this season are: 7.7ppg, 2.9rpg and 1.2apg. She is also Latvian U20 national team player.

   #8. Center Liga Surkusa (194-91, currently plays in Italy) contributed to Broni's victory against the 14th-ranked Biassono (1-13) 59-46 in the Italian A2 (12th division) on Saturday night. Surkusa scored 10 points and grabbed 8 rebounds in 18 minutes. OMC Cignoli Broni (6-8) is placed ninth in North group. It was her team's first victory after three consecutive loses. Surkusa belongs to league's best blockers and is ranked #2 with 1.5bpg. This year her other stats are: 8.6ppg, 9.2rpg and 1.4spg in the 14 games. Surkusa plays currently for the Latvian national team.

   #9. International forward Sabine Niedola (184-91, currently plays in Spain) contributed to a Cadi ICG Software's victory against one of league's weakest teams Conquero (2-8) 78-70 in the Spanish LFB in Saturday night's game. She scored 9 points and grabbed 4 rebounds. Cadi ICG Software (4-6) is placed ninth in the LFB. Niedola's total stats this season are: 6.6ppg and 3.2rpg. She is also in the roster of the Latvian national team.

   #10. Swingman Eva Pavlovska (176-89, currently plays in Sweden) helped Udominate win their game against the closely-ranked Sallen (6-9) 68-55 in the Swedish Damligan last Wednesday. Pavlovska recorded 10 points, 8 rebounds and 3 assists in 24 minutes. Udominate Basket Umea (8-6) is placed sixth in the Damligan. Pavlovska has reliable stats this year: 11.2ppg, 5.9rpg, 2.9apg and 2.0spg in the 14 games. She is a former U18 international player as seven years ago she still played for the Latvian national team.

   #11. Former international forward Ieva Veinberga (183-84, currently plays in Lithuania) is a teammate of previously mentioned Sabine Dukate and both played together in the last Lithuanian LMKL game. Veinberga was not able to secure a victory for Suduva in their game against Kibirkstis-Tiche. She scored 5 points and grabbed 5 rebounds. Her team was defeated 81-73. Veinberga's total stats this season are: 7.7ppg, 4.4rpg and 1.2spg. She used to play for the Latvian national team two years ago.


One more player who has never been selected to any of national teams, but has Latvian passport:

   #1. Experienced Rima Valentiene (170-PG-78, currently plays in Lithuania) led Kibirkstis-Tiche to a victory over the closely-ranked Suduva (9-5) 81-73 in the Lithuanian LMKL on Friday night. Valentiene was the best player in that game. She scored 18 points and grabbed 4 rebounds in 29 minutes. It was the game of the round between two top 4 ranked teams. Kibirkstis-Tiche-IKI Vilnius (13-1) is placed first in the LMKL. It was her team's third consecutive victory in a row. This year Valentiene's overall stats are: 5.6ppg, 2.9rpg, 2.1apg and 1.2spg in the 14 games she played so far.

Tallina U. - Vega 1/Liepaja 65-64 Tallina Uni held off Vega 1/Liepaja to take 1-0 lead in the quarterfinal series. The hosts started the game with a very strong first quarter 21-10. But Vega 1 won third quarter 22-14. However it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. She had the game-high 20 points adding seven rebounds and nine assists for TTT Riga in her team's victory, helping them to outclass Vega 1/Liepaja (#3, 5-7) with 57-point margin 119-62.
