Coincidentally all hosts won their games.

The game had a very big importance for second-ranked Barons kvartals as it allowed them to take a leadership position. Barons kvartals defeated 8th ranked Latvijas Universitate in Riga 76-63. The game was mostly controlled by Barons kvartals. Latvijas Universitate managed to win third quarter 19-16. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. They outrebounded Latvijas Universitate 42-27 including 32 on the defensive glass. The best player for the winners was American forward Tyler Cain (203-88, college: S.Dakota) who had a double-double by scoring 22 points and 16 rebounds. Swingman Salvis Metra (195-84) chipped in 16 points and 10 rebounds. Guard Kristaps Dargais (198-90) produced 14 points and 6 rebounds for the guests. Latvijas Universitate's coach rotated ten players in this game, but that didn't help. Barons kvartals (12-7) have an impressive series of five victories in a row. As mentioned above they are at the top of the standings, which they share with Valmiera. Latvijas Universitate at the other side keeps the eighth place with 13 games lost. Latvijas Universitate will have a break next week, which should allow them to rest in order to get back on the winning path. Barons kvartals will try to continue on its current victory against seventh ranked Jurmala at home.
The game with biggest result difference took place in Jekabpils. Local Jekabpils (12-8) beat 6th ranked Jelgava (9-10) 91-76. American point guard P.J. Hill jr. (182-87, college: Ohio St.) orchestrated the victory by scoring 24 points, 5 rebounds and 5 assists. Michal Hlebowicki contributed with 16 points, 14 rebounds and 4 assists for the winners. American guard Shedrick Haynes (182-88, college: Tarleton St.) answered with 14 points and 6 rebounds for Jelgava. Both coaches used bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Newly promoted Jekabpils maintains third place with 12-8 record having just -1 point less than leader Barons kvartals. Jelgava at the other side keeps the sixth position with ten games lost. They share it with Jurmala. Jekabpils will play against bottom-ranked U18 (#11) in Riga in the next round and are hoping to win another game. Jelgava will have a break next round.

In the last game of round 23 LU was defeated by Liepaja in a road game 74-64.

Liepaja - LU 74-64

We cannot really consider it an upset in the game between close teams when 8th ranked Latvijas Universitate (8-13) was defeated on the road by ninth ranked Liepaja (7-13) 74-64. It looked good early as Latvijas Universitate took an 5-point lead at the end of first quarter. But then Liepaja had a 19-10 second period charge getting the lead and Latvijas Universitate was not able to take back game control losing it eventually 64-74. They outrebounded Latvijas Universitate 42-29 including a 32-21 advantage in defensive rebounds. Point guard Ingus Jakovics (185-93) orchestrated the victory by scoring 19 points. Arturs Bricis (196-92) contributed with 12 points, 5 rebounds and 4 assists for the winners. Guard Zanis Peiners (204-90, agency: Interperformances) answered with 26 points and guard Kristaps Dargais (198-90) added 12 points and 5 rebounds in the effort for Latvijas Universitate. Both coaches used bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Liepaja maintains ninth place with 7-13 record. Latvijas Universitate at the other side keeps the eighth position with 13 games lost. Liepaja will play against higher ranked VEF Riga (#5) on the road in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. Latvijas Universitate will have a break next round.
