American Joncelyn Peterkin (187-C-89) put on an extraordinary performance in the last round for Liepajas and that's her to receive a Eurobasket.com Player of the Week award for round 18. The 23-year old center had a double-double of 23 points and eleven rebounds, while her team beat Tallina U. (#6, 7-8) 78-69. Liepajas is placed at 4th position in Latvian LSBL. They would have been even better if they hadn't lost a few games earlier this season. Liepajas will need more victories to improve their 10-4 record. It was one of impressive evenings for Peterkin as usually she does not deliver so high stats. Point Park University graduate has very impressive stats this year. Peterkin is in league's top in rebounds (3rd best: 11.1rpg) and averages solid 1.4bpg.
The second most remarkable performance in last round's games was 27-year old power forward Ieva Vitola (187-F/C-85) of league's best team Cesis. Vitola impressed basketball fans with a double-double of 15 points and 15 rebounds. Of course she lead Cesis to another comfortable win outscoring the lower-ranked Rapla KK (#10, 3-12) 128-33. Of course Cesis still keep the league's top spot. She plays for the best team in the league and Cesis managed to win all 15 games keeping perfect record. Vitola is a newcomer at Cesis and it seems she did not have too much trouble to become one of team's leaders.
The third best performed player last round was Estonian Pirgit Puu (168-G-88) of Tallina U. (#6). Puu scored 23 points and passed seven assists. Despite Puu's great performance Tallina U. lost 69-78 to slightly higher-ranked Liepajas (#4, 10-4). But her team cannot count on just a single player as she also needs help of the other teammates. The chances of Tallina U. ranking at the top of the league, however are very questionable as they have already lost 8 games, recording just seven victories. With bigger assistance of his teammates, Puu could help Tallina U. to bring them higher in the standings. Puu has a great season in Latvia. After 12 games, she made it on the list of the league's leaders in points with 18.8ppg (4th best). She also has 2.5spg and and 3PT: 54.1%.
Other top performing players last week: 4. Dita Rozenberga (181-F-92) of TTT Riga - 22 points, 11 rebounds and 2 assists 5. Valeria Kast (201-C-87) of Tallina U. - 23 points, 8 rebounds and 2 assists 6. Dita Liepkalne (185-F-87) of Cesis - 19 points, 14 rebounds and 4 assists 7. Anda Eibele (170-G-84) of Cesis - 20 points, 5 rebounds and 9 assists 8. Kerttu Jallai (180-F-90) of Tallina U. - 20 points, 9 rebounds and 3 assists 9. Zane Jakobsone (180-F-85) of Cesis - 24 points, 2 rebounds and 4 assists 10. Trine Kasemagi (190-C-95) of Audentes SG/N. - 17 points, 12 rebounds and 3 assists
The Player of the week is choosen based on efficiency calculation, but also including game result, importance of the game, if played recorded double-double/triple-double, etc. The efficiency formula is a combination of various formulas used by different basketball organizations/leagues. We got involved many basketball scouts and journalists to assure it's accuracy. The formula: 1.5*PTS + 3*(REB+AST+ST+BL-TO) - 2*BSAG - 4*PF + 3*PFRV + 4*(2FGPM+3FGPM) + 1.5*FTM - 3*(2FGPA-2FGPM) - 3*(3FGPA-3FGPM) - (FTA-FTM)
