We bring you last week's top performances from Latvians who are playing abroad and who all have had prior experience of national team duties at youth or senior level.

   #1. This week's number one is an international center Zane Teilane-Tamane (200-83, agency: LBM Management, college: W.Illinois, currently plays in Euroleague). She led her Russian team Nadezhda Orenburg to an easy victory against the seventh-ranked Arras (2-10) 89-71 in the Euroleague in Wednesday night's game. Teilane-Tamane scored 12 points and grabbed 5 rebounds in 21 minutes on the court. Nadezhda Orenburg (8-4) is placed third in group B. It was her team's third consecutive victory in a row. They will play only one more game in the Euroleague Regular Season. And that game will be critical. It's Teilane-Tamane's first season with the team. This year she averages: 9.1ppg, 8.3rpg, 2FGP: 57.8%(48-83) and FT: 68.4% in the 12 games she played so far. Teilane-Tamane is currently a member of the Latvian senior national team.

   #2. Second place goes to former international guard Elina Babkina (173-89, also represented by LBM Management, currently plays in Czech Republic). She led USK Praha to an easy victory against the seventh-ranked Valosun Brno (10-10) crushing them 117-55 in the Czech Republic ZBL last Saturday. Babkina scored 12 points and added 7 assists. ZVVZ USK Praha (20-1) is placed first in the ZBL. It was her team's fifth consecutive victory in a row. They will play only one more game in the Regular Season. And now that game is very crucial. Babkina's overall stats this season are: 5.0ppg, 2.3apg, 2FGP: 28.6% and FT: 77.8%. She played for the Latvian national team in 2011.

   #3. The Latvian player who performed third best last week abroad was former international shooting guard Anete Jekabsone-Zogota (177-83, currently plays in Russia). Jekabsone-Zogota contributed to an easy victory against one of league's weakest teams Spartak Noginsk (2-9) crushing them 78-52 in the Russian PBL on Saturday night. She recorded 6 points in 15 minutes. UMMC Ekaterinburg (11-1) is placed first in the PBL. It was her team's third consecutive victory in a row. This year Jekabsone-Zogota's overall stats are: 8.8ppg, 1.5rpg, 2.5apg, 2FGP: 46.2%, 3FGP: 38.9% in the four games. She played for the Latvian national team four years ago.

   #4. An experienced forward Gunta Basko (181-80, agency: Josep and Nicolas, college: Siena, currently plays in France), who plays in the French LFB could not help Nantes Reze (9-9) to beat Perpignan (12-5). Basko scored 8 points, had 7 rebounds and dished 4 assists. Nantes Reze was defeated 84-75 on the road by the higher-ranked Perpignan (#3). Basko has relatively good stats this season: 10.6ppg, 5.6rpg, 1.6apg and 1.1spg. She used to play for the Latvian national team back in 2011.

International center Ieva Kublina (193-82, college: Virginia Tech, currently plays in Euroleague) managed to help Fenerbahce Spor Kulubu in a victory against the fourth-ranked Familia Schio (7-5) 82-68 in the Euroleague last Wednesday. Kublina scored 5 points in 18 minutes. Fenerbahce Spor Kulubu (9-3) is placed second in group B. Her team will play only one more game in the Euroleague Regular Season. And now that game is quite important. This year Kublina's total stats are: 2.5ppg and 2.0rpg in the two games. She plays currently for the Latvian national team.

   #6. Center Anita Teilane (196-85, currently plays in Bulgaria), who plays in the Bulgarian NBL was not able to help Haskovo 2012 (8-9) in their last game on Saturday. Despite Teilane's very good performance Haskovo 2012 was defeated 81-68 in Montana by the lower-ranked 2003 (#5). She recorded a double-double by scoring 19 points and getting 10 rebounds. Teilane also added 4 assists. Teilane has individually a very good season with high stats. She averages: 15.8ppg, 10.2rpg, 2.0apg and 2.8bpg. Teilane is a former international player as she played for the Latvian senior team six years ago.

   #7. International center Aija Brumermane (191-86, agency: Regeneracom Sports, currently plays in Hungary) was the major contributor in Bacsbasket's victory against the fifth-ranked BSE-FCSM (8-15) 75-61 in the Hungarian A Division in Saturday night's game. She scored 13 points and grabbed 6 rebounds in a mere 19 minutes. Bacsbasket Kft. Baja (20-4) is placed first in Places 9-14 group. It was her team's fourth consecutive victory in a row. This year Brumermane has relatively solid stats: 11.2ppg, 5.8rpg and 1.5apg in the 19 games. She is also Latvian national team player.

   #8. Power forward Liene Jansone (192-81, college: Siena, currently plays in Turkey) contributed to a Tarsus Bld's victory against the 11th-ranked Canik Bld (6-10) 83-70 in the Turkish TKBL last Sunday. Jansone recorded 5 points and grabbed 5 rebounds. Tarsus Belediyesi (11-5) is placed fourth in the TKBL. Jansone has averaged so far 6.2ppg and 3.4rpg. She plays currently for the Latvian national team.

   #9. U20 international forward Sabine Dukate (174-93, currently plays in Lithuania) led Suduva to a 3-point victory against the closely-ranked Aistes-LSU (8-11) 70-67 in the Lithuanian LMKL on Friday night. Dukate recorded 12 points and added 3 assists in 31 minutes. Suduva-Mantinga Marijampole (13-6) is placed third in the LMKL. Dukate has averaged so far 8.3ppg, 2.4rpg and 1.5apg in the 19 games. She is also in the roster of the Latvian U20 national team.

   #10. Center Ieva Kulite (191-88, currently plays in Germany), who plays in the German DBBL was not able to secure a victory for Wildcats Wolfenbuettel (10-5) in their last game on Saturday. Despite Kulite's good performance Wildcats Wolfenbuettel was defeated 81-75 in Bamberg by the leading Don Bosco. She scored 14 points and grabbed 8 rebounds. Kulite has reliable stats this season: 11.4ppg, 7.9rpg and 1.1apg. She is a former U18 international player as seven years ago she still played for the Latvian national team.

   #11. International center Liga Surkusa (194-91, currently plays in Italy), who plays in the Italian A2 (12th division) couldn't help Broni (9-10) in their last game. Despite Surkusa's good performance the seventh-placed Broni lost 50-58 at home to the much lower-ranked (#14) Milano in the North group. She had a double-double by scoring 12 points and getting 11 rebounds in 21 minutes. Surkusa is currently second on the league's list of best blockers with 1.3bpg. This year she also averages: 9.5ppg, 8.9rpg and 1.3spg in the 19 games. Surkusa plays currently for the Latvian national team.

   #12. International forward Sabine Niedola (184-91, currently plays in Spain) couldn't help Cadi ICG Software in their game against Rivas Ecopolis in the Spanish LFB. She scored 8 points and grabbed 6 rebounds (went 6 for 6 at the free throw line). Her team was badly defeated by 17 points 68-51. Niedola has averaged so far 6.1ppg and 3.6rpg. She is also in the roster of the Latvian national team.

   #13. Former U18 international swingman Eva Pavlovska (176-89, currently plays in Sweden) led Udominate to an easy victory against the closely-ranked Kvarnby 91-74 in the Swedish Damligan in Friday night's game. Pavlovska scored 12 points and grabbed 4 rebounds in 26 minutes. Her stats this year are: 11.1ppg, 5.7rpg, 2.7apg and 1.8spg in the 18 games. Pavlovska used to play for the Latvian U18 national team seven years ago.

   #14. Former University international power forward Lauma Reke (185-86, college: St.Peter's, currently plays in Italy) helped T. La Spezia win their game against the fourth-ranked Napoli S.Dike 52-42 in the Italian A2 (12th division) last Sunday. She recorded 9 points and grabbed 7 rebounds. This season Reke has very high stats. She averages: 15.1ppg, 7.6rpg and 1.6spg. Reke used to play for the Latvian university national team back in 2007.

   #15. International guard Kristine Karklina (175-83, another player represented by Regeneracom Sports, currently plays in Turkey) helped Ceyhan Bld win their game against the league leader Botas 65-49 in a derby game in the Turkish TKBL on Saturday night. She recorded only 4 points, 4 rebounds and 5 assists in 23 minutes. Karklina has averaged so far 8.5ppg, 1.8rpg, 2.3apg and 1.3spg in the 16 games. She is also in the roster of the Latvian national team.   

Serbia and Latvia to host 2019 EuroBasket - 3 hours ago
2019 EuroBasket will be held in Serbia and Latvia. Both teams will host two preliminary round groups each. The Final Stage will be played in Belgrade. The preliminary round groups will be played in Nis, Zrenjanin, Riga and Liepaja. Russia and Israel also bid for the EuroBasket hosting rights.   [read more]

Canik Belediyesi Samsun (KBSL) added to their roster 29-year old Latvian international power forward Aija Putnina (191-88, agency: ProDep Management). She played last season at Istanbul Universitesi SK in the KBSL. In two Eurocup games she recorded 9.5ppg, 4.5rpg and 1.0spg. Putnina also played 24 games in KBSL where she averaged 14.5ppg, 7.5rpg, 1.3apg and 1.0spg. A very spectacular season in her career as she was voted to All-Turkish KBSL Honorable Mention. Declercq Stortbeton Waregem (Top Division Women) inked 23-year old Latvian guard Ance Aizsila (178-94, agency: LBM Management) from Castors Braine. In 13 Top Division Women games in Belgium she averaged 7.4ppg, 2.4rpg, 2.4apg and 2.0spg last season. She helped them to win the League title (twice) and the cup (also twice). Aizsila also played that season for RSU-Merks in Latvian LSBL where in 12 games she was the best scorer with impressive 18.5ppg and recorded 4.3rpg, 2.3apg, 1.8spg and 2.5bpg   [read more]
