Ventspils silence visiting Kataja in Round 4 of Top 16 in EuroChallenge. The Latvian side improved to 2-2 record in Group I.
The hosts trailed by 6 points at the halftime before their 45-25 charge in the second half, which allowed them to win the game. Ventspils outrebounded Joensuun Kataja 36-18 including a 30-16 advantage in defensive rebounds. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 24 assists. Worth to mention a great performance of Donald Sims (185-PG-87, college: Appalachian St.) who helped to win the game recording 21 points and 5 rebounds and Sandis Valters (193-G-78) who added 10 points, 7 rebounds and 6 assists during the contest. Arturs Berzins (204-PF-88, agency: FCM) notched 13 points and Ronalds Zakis (207-F/C-87) had 9. At the losing side Johnell Smith (180-PG-80, college: New Orleans) responded with 12 points and 6 assists and Jonte Flowers (196-F/G-85, agency: Warren Sports International, college: Winona St.) scored 11 points. Antti Kanervo (193-SG-89) also scored 12, while Petri Virtanen (183-PG-80) delivered 10. Four Joensuun Kataja players scored in double figures.
