Here is the weekly review of the top performing Latvian players, who play currently abroad.

   #1. This week's number one is an international small forward Davis Bertans (203-92, currently plays in Adriatic League), who plays in Serbia. He could not help one of league's weakest teams Partizan (13-8) in their last game. Despite Bertans' very good performance Partizan lost 76-84 in a derby game to the second-ranked Zvezda. He was the top scorer with 23 points. Bertans also added 5 rebounds in 34 minutes on the court. This year Bertans averages: 9.0ppg, 2.7rpg, 2FGP: 45.1%, 3FGP: 45.5%(40-88) and FT: 74.2% in the 21 games he played so far. He is currently a member of the Latvian senior national team.

   #2. Second place goes to an international point guard Janis Strelnieks (191-89, currently plays in VTB United League), who plays in Russia. Strelnieks was not able to help Spartak St.Petersburg (10-4) in their last game on Friday. Despite his very good performance the fourth-placed Spartak St.Petersburg was defeated 75-70 on the road by the leading Krasnie Krilya in the group A of VTB United League. Strelnieks was the top scorer with 17 points. There are only four games left until the end of the VTB United League Regular Season. So now every game will be critical. Strelnieks' overall stats this season are: 6.9ppg, 1.3rpg, 3.1apg, 3FGP: 43.9% and FT: 76.9%. He is in the roster of the Latvian senior national team.

   #3. The Latvian player who performed third best last week abroad was an international guard Armands Skele (192-83, currently plays in VTB United League), who plays in Estonia. Skele was not able to secure a victory for Kalev/Cramo (3-12) in their last game. Despite his very good performance Kalev/Cramo (#9) lost 57-65 at home to the second-ranked Khimky in the group A of VTB United League. Skele was the top scorer with 20 points. He also added 9 rebounds in 30 minutes. It was Kalev/Cramo's fourth consecutive loss in a row. There are only three games left until the end of the VTB United League Regular Season. So now every game is very crucial. Skele has relatively good stats this year: 10.4ppg, 4.3rpg, 1.8apg, 2FGP: 52.4% and FT: 44.4% in the nine games. He is also a member of the Latvian senior national team.

Point guard Edgars Jeromanovs (186-86, currently plays in Sweden) led Norrkoping Dolphins to a victory over the league outsider Eco Orebro (5-24) crushing them 94-70 in the Swedish Basketligan in Sunday night's game. Jeromanovs was MVP of the game. He scored 23 points and added 7 assists. Norrkoping Dolphins (20-2) is placed second in the Basketligan. It was his team's fourth consecutive victory in a row. There are only four games left until the end of the Regular Season. So now every game will be important. Jeromanovs is currently sixth on the list of best passers. He has very reliable stats this season: 12.5ppg, 3.0rpg, 4.5apg and 1.5spg. Jeromanovs is also Latvian national team player.

   #5. International shooting guard Janis Blums (191-82, currently plays in VTB United League), who plays in Lithuania couldn't help Lietuvos rytas (8-7) in their last game. Despite his good performance Lietuvos rytas (#6) lost 78-86 in Zgorzelec to the lower-ranked (#8) PGE Turow in the group A of VTB United League. Blums scored 11 points in a mere 18 minutes. They ended the series of three consecutive victories. There are only three games left until the end of the VTB United League Regular Season. So now every game will be extremely important. This year Blums has relatively solid stats: 11.9ppg, 2.0rpg and 2.1apg in the 13 games. He plays currently for the Latvian national team.

Forward Maris Laksa (205-81, college: Providence, currently plays in Estonia) was the main contributor in a BC Rakvere's victory against one of league's weakest teams Tln Kalev (5-18) 82-66 in the Estonian KML on Friday night. Laksa was the best player in that game. He recorded 19 points and grabbed 5 rebounds. BC Rakvere Tarvas (17-6) is placed first in the KML. Laksa is currently first on the list of top scorers. He has individually a very good season with high stats. Laksa averages: 16.4ppg, 3.2rpg, 1.2apg and 1.3spg. He is a former international player as he played for the Latvian senior team ten years ago.

Former international forward Ernests Kalve (200-87, currently plays in Adriatic League) contributed to an Szolnok's surprising victory against the seventh-ranked Un.Olimpija (11-10) 89-72 in the Adriatic League in Saturday night's game. Kalve scored 14 points and grabbed 5 rebounds in 20 minutes. Szolnoki Olajbanyasz (6-15) is located at the very bottom in the Adriatic League. This year Kalve's overall stats are: 8.9ppg, 3.4rpg and 1.1spg in the 21 games. He used to play for the Latvian national team three years ago.

   #8. Small forward Rihards Kuksiks (197-88, college: Arizona St., currently plays in Eurocup) couldn't help Budivelnyk (4-2) in their game against Banvit BK (3-3) in the Eurocup. Kuksiks scored 9 points and grabbed 5 rebounds. But Budivelnyk was defeated 94-85 in Balikesir by the lower-ranked Banvit BK (#3) in the group I of Eurocup. The Top 16 already ended in the Eurocup. Kuksiks' total stats this season are: 5.5ppg and 3.5rpg. He plays currently for the Latvian national team.

Former international center Raitis Grafs (208-81, college: Valparaiso, currently plays in Estonia) contributed to Valga's victory against the league leader BC Rakvere (17-6) 66-59 in the Estonian KML on Tuesday night. Grafs was the top player that evening. He had a double-double by scoring 20 points and getting 13 rebounds in 36 minutes. Valga/Maks&Moorits (10-12) is placed fifth in the KML. It was his team's first victory after three consecutive loses. It's Grafs' first season with the team. Grafs is currently sixth on the list of best rebounders with 7.1rpg. This year his other stats are: 11.6ppg and 1.4apg in the 20 games. Grafs used to play for the Latvian national team three years ago.

   #10. Center Andris Biedrins (213-86, currently plays in NBA) couldn't help the Golden State Warriors (31-23) in their game against the Utah Jazz (31-24) in the NBA. He cannot count Tuesday's game as one of the best ones. Biedrins scored only 2 points. The Golden State Warriors were defeated 115-101 in Salt Lake City by the Utah Jazz. It was Golden State Warriors' sixth consecutive loss in a row. Biedrins has been at the team for nine years. His total stats this season are: 0.6ppg and 3.1rpg. Biedrins is a former international player as four years ago he still played for the Latvian senior national team.

   #11. An experienced former international swingman Juris Umbrasko (197-79, currently plays in Estonia) is a teammate of previously mentioned Maris Laksa and both played together in the last Estonian KML game. Umbrasko contributed to an easy victory against one of league's weakest teams Tln Kalev 82-66. He recorded 9 points and added 4 assists in 35 minutes. Umbrasko has reliable stats this year: 12.7ppg, 5.0rpg, 2.3apg and 1.2spg in the 19 games. He used to play for the Latvian national team five years ago.

   #12. Former international center Kaspars Kambala (206-78, agency: Alti Sport, college: UNLV, currently plays in Turkey) contributed to a Pi Koleji's shocking victory against the league leader Usak 91-78 in the Turkish TB2L (second division) on Sunday night. Kambala recorded a double-double by scoring 20 points and getting 11 rebounds. This season he has very high stats. Kambala averages: 21.8ppg and 11.8rpg. He used to play for the Latvian national team back in 2009.

   #13. International forward Oto Osenieks (203-90, currently plays college basketball in the States) couldn't help the Minnesota in their game against the Ohio State University in the NCAA, despite his good performance in Wednesday night's game. Osenieks scored 10 points and grabbed 5 rebounds (went 6 for 6 at the free throw line) in 27 minutes. But his team was crushed by 26 points 71-45. He has very impressive stats this year: 21.8ppg and 11.8rpg in the five games. Osenieks is also Latvian national team player.

   #14. Former international guard Kristaps Valters (190-81, currently plays in Spain) couldn't help Baloncesto Fuenlabrada in their game against Regal FC Barcelona in the Spanish ACB. Despite his good performance last Sunday He scored 10 points and grabbed 4 rebounds. Valters' total stats this season are: 8.8ppg, 2.2rpg and 2.8apg. He used to play for the Latvian national team back in 2009.

   #15. Former international swingman Mareks Jurevicus (197-85, currently plays in Italy) helped Prima Veroli win their game against one of league's weakest teams Upea CdO crushing them 90-66 in the Italian Lega2 (second division) on Sunday night. Jurevicus recorded 14 points and added 3 assists in 36 minutes. His stats this year are: 13.5ppg, 4.0rpg, 1.7apg and 1.4spg in the 18 games. Jurevicus used to play for the Latvian national team two years ago.


The list of other players, who all have Latvian passport but never been selected to any of Latvian national teams:

   #1. Edmunds Tukiss (200-SF-89, currently plays in Germany) led Dragons Rhoendorf to a victory against the ninth-ranked Hanau (8-11) 85-72 in the German ProB (third division) last Saturday. He recorded 15 points in a mere 17 minutes. Dragons Rhoendorf (17-2) is placed first in Group South. It was his team's third consecutive victory in a row. There are only three games left until the end of the Regular Season. This year Tukiss' total stats are: 8.6ppg and 2.5rpg in the 17 games he played so far.

   #2. Martins Berkis (198-F-85, agency: TSS Management, currently plays in Hungary), who plays in the Hungarian A Division could not help Marso NYKK (7-13) in their last game. Despite his good performance Marso NYKK was edged 77-75 at home by the higher-ranked (#6) Falco-Szova. Berkis scored 12 points and grabbed 8 rebounds in 40 minutes. It was Marso NYKK's third consecutive loss in a row. There are only two games left until the end of the Regular Season. Berkis has individually a very good year with high stats. He averages: 15.2ppg, 5.6rpg, 2.3apg and 1.5spg in the 20 games.

   #3. Matiss Sakne (191-G-91, currently plays in Denmark) contributed to a 1-point Horsens IC's victory against the closely-ranked Naestved (12-13) 76-75 in the Danish Ligaen in Wednesday night's game. Sakne scored 10 points. Horsens IC (19-6) is placed third in the Ligaen. There are only two games left until the end of the Regular Season. Sakne's total stats this season are: 4.3ppg, 1.5rpg and 1.1apg.

   #4. Experienced Gary Gandel (203-G/F-80, currently plays in Israel) contributed to an easy victory against one of league's weakest teams Maccabi Kiryat Bialik (3-15) crushing them 97-75 in the Israeli National League (second division) last Tuesday. He scored 7 points, had 4 rebounds and dished 5 assists in 32 minutes. Maccabi Hod Hasharon (14-4) is placed third in the National League. It was his team's fifth consecutive victory in a row. Gandel averaged so far 11.4ppg, 5.0rpg, 3.2apg and 1.2spg in the five games. He has a dual citizenship: Latvian and Israeli.

   #5. Martins Provizors (202-C-87, currently plays in Ireland) was not able to help DCU Saints (7-10) in their game against Killester (7-12) in the Irish Superleague, despite his very good performance on Saturday night. Provizors had a double-double by scoring 18 points and getting 10 rebounds. He also added 3 blocks in a mere 18 minutes. But DCU Saints lost 71-76 in a derby game to the lower-ranked (#5) Killester. It was DCU Saints' fourth consecutive loss in a row. There are only three games left until the end of the Regular Season. Provizors is one of the most experienced players in a team as it's his sixth year in DCU Saints' roster. Provizors averaged so far 14.0ppg, 11.9rpg, 2.2apg and 2.0bpg in the nine games.

LBL2 Round 6 (Second Stage): RSU is defeated by Marupe in a derby game - 10 hours ago
The most interesting game was a derby match between two local teams from Riga: Marupe (#5) and RSU (#5). RSU was defeated at home 54-69 and even the fact of playing on their own court did not help. The game was mostly controlled by Marupe. RSU managed to win second period 18-10. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. Aleksejevs' double-double lands him Player of the Week award - 10 hours ago
31-year old center Jurijs Aleksejevs (202-C-85) put on an extraordinary performance in the last round for Jekabpils and receives a Eurobasket.com Player of the Week award for round 18. He had a double-double of 18 points and 10 rebounds, while his team crushed BK Ogre (#8, 6-10) with 18-point margin 87-69. Jekabpils maintains the 4th position in Latvian league. Jurmala (#5) forced the game against Valmiera (#3) into an overtime, but lost by four points 77-81 on Saturday night. The game took place in Jurmala. But the guests from Valmiera were better at the end. It was a good game for Arturs Berzins who led his team to a victory with a double-double by scoring 20 points and 12 rebounds.
