Nice win for Italy in Day One in Poprad. They celebrated 65-53 against Latvia for 1-0 record in Preliminary Group C. Nice win for Italy in Day One in Poprad. They celebrated 65-53 against Latvia for 1-0 record in Preliminary Group C. Beside Italy and Latvia, participants of the same pool are also Lithuania and Poland. Lucia Morsiani (186-C-92) was the leading scorer in Italy with 13 points (5 rebs). In the loosing squad, Linda Pagrode (172-G-92) shined with 16 points and 10 boards. Guna Lagzdina (187-C-93) (7 rebs) and Anete Kirsteine (176-G/F-92) (8 rebs) added 11 and 9 points respectively. Italy took control on Latvia from the early beginning. Lucia Morsiani and her teammates made quick 9-3 and later finished first quarter with 24-14 lead. Latvia was slightly better in the next ten minutes (12-13), but that was enough just for 36-27 at the halftime. Latvia came to minus five at the halfway of third quarter, but Italy quickly replied and jumped to double-digit lead. After 30 minutes of play it was comfortable 52-40 for Italy. Latvia was not able to treat in the last frame and Italy celebrated 65-53 win. In Day Two in Poprad, Italy will play against Poland. Latvia will take on Lithuania in Baltic derby.

The host of this event managed to end it as No.3 winning the Bronze medal. They outsmarted France 49-53 in the last day of competition. Hhadydia Minte and her teammates shined at the both sides of the court making 21-8 lead in the first ten minutes. They slowed down offensively in Q2 and Latvia won it by one, 10-11. Than after the breather, Latvia intensified defense and limited their rivals to just 6 points for the period. They drained 14 on the other side and the score was set to 37-33. Latvia was in and they continued with great performance for the last ten minutes. They made 42-45 turn and later reached plus 6. There was less than 40 seconds to go at that time and the game was already over for France.
