   #1. This week's number one is an international point guard Janis Strelnieks (191-89, currently plays in Euroleague). He led his German team Brose Baskets to a victory over the closely-ranked Maccabi T-A (8-14) 90-75 in the Euroleague in Thursday night's game. Strelnieks was MVP of the game. He scored 25 points and added 4 assists in 20 minutes on the court. Brose Baskets Bamberg (8-14) is placed 12th in group A. Strelnieks has relatively good stats this year: 11.7ppg, 2.2rpg, 3.5apg, 2FGP: 58.1%(54-93), 3FGP: 45.9%(39-85) and FT: 89.2% in 22 games he played so far. He is currently a member of the Latvian senior national team.

   #2. Second place goes to an international small forward Janis Timma (201-92, currently plays in EuroCup). Timma could not help Zenit (3-3) in their last game on Wednesday. Despite his very good performance Zenit was edged 86-84 on the road by the lower-ranked Lietuvos rytas (#3). Timma was the second best scorer with 21 points. He also added 5 rebounds. There are only two games left until the end of the Eurocup Second Stage. So now every game will be critical. Timma has individually a very good season with high stats. He averages: 16.8ppg, 4.7rpg, 3.1apg, 2FGP: 69.2%(36-52), 3FGP: 44.0% and FT: 75.0%. Timma is in the roster of the Latvian senior national team.

   #3. The Latvian player who performed third best last week abroad was an international power forward Kristaps Porzingis (221-95, currently plays in NBA). He was not able to help the New York Knicks (22-32) in their last game. Despite Porzingis' very good performance the New York Knicks (22-32) lost 115-119 in Los Angeles to the Clippers. He was the second best scorer with 27 points. Porzingis also added 6 rebounds in 27 minutes. It was Knicks' third consecutive loss in a row. Porzingis has very impressive stats this year: 18.6ppg, 7.1rpg, 1.3apg, 1.9bpg, 2FGP: 48.5%, 3FGP: 38.2% and FT: 77.9% in 46 games. He is also a member of the Latvian senior national team.

   #4. Shooting guard Dairis Bertans (194-89, currently plays in Euroleague) was not able to secure a victory for Darussafaka (10-11) in their last game on Thursday. Despite Bertans' very good performance the ninth-placed Darussafaka (10-11) was edged 89-87 in Milano by the lower-ranked Armani (#15) in the group A of Euroleague. He was the second best scorer with 18 points. Bertans also added 3 assists. Bertans' overall stats this season are: 7.2ppg and 1.4apg. He is also Latvian national team player.

International swingman Zanis Peiners (203-90, currently plays in Greece) was the major contributor in PAOK's victory against the closely-ranked Aris (9-7) 62-58 in a derby game in the Greek A1 last Saturday. Peiners recorded 13 points and grabbed 5 rebounds (made all of his seven free throws) in 33 minutes. PAOK Thessaloniki (9-7) is placed fifth in the A1. It's Peiners' first season with the team. This year he has relatively solid stats: 11.1ppg, 3.3rpg and 1.7apg in 13 games. Peiners plays currently for the Latvian national team.

Center Anzejs Pasecniks (216-95, college: VEF skola, currently plays in Spain) contributed to a Gran Canaria's victory against the closely-ranked Unicaja Malaga (12-7) 76-71 in the Spanish Liga Endesa on Saturday night. He scored 8 points and grabbed 4 rebounds. Herbalife Gran Canaria (11-8) is placed seventh in the Liga Endesa. Pasecniks' overall stats this season are: 7.5ppg and 3.2rpg. He is an international player who is currently on the senior Latvian National Team roster.

   #7. International forward Davis Bertans (208-92, currently plays in NBA) helped San Antonio Spurs win their game against the Philadelphia 76ers (17-35) 102-86 in the NBA in Thursday night's game. Bertans scored 12 points, had 6 rebounds and dished 3 assists in 30 minutes. The San Antonio Spurs have quite an impressive 40-12 record this season. This year Bertans' overall stats are: 4.3ppg and 1.4rpg in 44 games. He is also Latvian national team player.

   #8. Power forward Rolands Freimanis (208-88, agency: Alti Sport, currently plays in FIBA Europe Cup) couldn't help Usak Sportlif in their last game on Wednesday. Despite Freimanis' very good performance Usak Sportlif (#3) was defeated 82-72 on the opponent's court by the lower-ranked Oradea (#7) in the group Q of FIBA Europe Cup. He was the second best scorer with 16 points. Freimanis also added 4 rebounds. It was his first game for Usak Sportlif this season. Freimanis plays currently for the Latvian national team.

International power forward Ojars Silins (203-93, currently plays in FIBA Europe Cup) helped his German team Telekom Baskets win their game against the closely-ranked Joensuun Kataja 91-72 in the FIBA Europe Cup on Wednesday night. He recorded 12 points in a mere 15 minutes. It was the game of the round between two top 2 ranked teams in group M. Telekom Baskets Bonn (5-1) is placed first. Silins has reliable stats this year: 12.3ppg, 2.7rpg and 1.1apg in 11 games. He is also in the roster of the Latvian national team.

   #10. Power forward Rolands Smits (207-95, currently plays in EuroCup) couldn't help one of league's weakest teams Baloncesto Fuenlabrada (2-4) in their game against Gran Canaria (4-2) in the Eurocup. Smits scored 7 points. Baloncesto Fuenlabrada was crushed 100-76 in Las Palmas by the second-ranked Gran Canaria. The Second Stage already ended in the Eurocup. Smits' total stats this season are: 9.4ppg and 2.8rpg. He is an international player who is currently on the senior Latvian National Team roster.

   #11. An experienced former international guard Edmunds Gabrans (188-79, currently plays in Norway) couldn't help Froya Basket (13-7) in their last game. Despite Gabrans' very good performance Froya Basket lost 71-83 on the opponent's court to the leading Kongsberg. He was the top scorer with 27 points. Gabrans also added 4 assists in 38 minutes. Gabrans' stats this year are: 13.9ppg, 4.3rpg, 4.7apg and 1.6spg in 18 games. He used to play for the Latvian national team fifteen years ago.

   #12. U18 international small forward Arturs Strautins (198-98, currently plays in Italy) managed to help Grissin Bon Reggio Emilia to win against the 12th-ranked Enel Brindisi 98-84 in the Italian Serie A on Monday night. Strautins scored only 4 points. Strautins' total stats this season are: 2.6ppg and 2.1rpg. He is also in the roster of the Latvian U18 national team.

   #13. Former international small forward Rihards Kuksiks (197-88, agency: HMS, college: Arizona St., currently plays in France) was the main contributor in Nantes' victory against the ninth-ranked JA Vichy 90-79 in the French ProB (second division) in Friday night's game. Kuksiks was the best player in that game. He scored 21 points and grabbed 4 rebounds in 26 minutes. Kuksiks averaged so far 11.5ppg and 3.3rpg in four games. He used to play for the Latvian national team four years ago.

   #14. Former international forward Ernests Kalve (200-87, also represented by HMS, currently plays in Romania) couldn't help Targu Mures (9-9) in their last game on Saturday. Despite Kalve's good performance Targu Mures was defeated in an overtime 93-87 at home by the second-ranked Steaua CSM. He scored 13 points, grabbed 8 rebounds and dished 3 assists. Kalve's total stats this season are: 10.0ppg, 4.5rpg and 1.1apg. He used to play for the Latvian national team back in 2010.

   #15. International guard Davis Lejasmeiers (192-91, currently plays in Sweden) helped Sodertalje Kings win their game against the closely-ranked KFUM Jamtland 81-75 in the Swedish Basketligan on Friday night. Lejasmeiers recorded 12 points and added 7 assists in 37 minutes. This year Lejasmeiers' total stats are: 9.8ppg, 2.4rpg and 4.4apg in 18 games. He is also in the roster of the Latvian national team.


The list of other players, who all have Latvian passport but never been selected to any of Latvian national teams:

   #1. Rihards Sulcs (191-F-87, currently plays in United Kingdom) led Dragons to a victory over the 12th-ranked Worthing Thunder (5-13) 88-78 in the British NBL D1 (second division) last Saturday. Sulcs was the top player that evening. He scored 24 points, grabbed 9 rebounds and dished 4 assists in 30 minutes. Bradford Dragons (10-8) is placed seventh in the NBL D1. It was his team's third consecutive victory in a row. Sulcs is one of the most experienced players in a team as it's his sixth year in Dragons' roster. Sulcs has individually a very good season with high stats. He averages: 18.9ppg, 7.4rpg, 4.1apg and 2.5spg in 15 games he played so far.

   #2. Martins Provizors (202-C-87, currently plays in Ireland) was the main contributor in a 3-point DCU Saints' victory against the closely-ranked Moycullen (6-10) 77-74 in the Irish Super League on Saturday night. Provizors was the top player that evening. He recorded a double-double by scoring 21 points and getting 13 rebounds. Provizors also added 3 assists. DCU St.Vincents Dublin (6-10) is placed seventh in the Super League. This season Provizors has very high stats. He averages: 20.6ppg, 15.6rpg, 2.9apg and 1.3bpg.

   #3. Alvis Eglitis (195-F-85, currently plays in Norway). Eglitis could not help one of league's weakest teams Asker Aliens (11-11) to beat Gimle BBK (12-10). He recorded 5 points, 8 rebounds and 3 assists. Asker Aliens was crushed 91-66 at home by the higher-ranked Gimle BBK (#5). Eglitis is one of the most experienced players in a team as it's his fourth year in Asker Aliens' roster. Eglitis has averaged so far 9.8ppg, 10.3rpg, 1.6apg and 1.7spg.

   #4. Arkadijs Makarenko (194-F, currently plays in Ireland) is a teammate of previously mentioned Martins Provizors and both played together in the last Irish Super League game. Makarenko contributed to a 3-point DCU Saints' victory against the closely-ranked Moycullen (6-10) 77-74. He had a double-double by scoring 10 points and getting 12 rebounds. Makarenko also added 4 assists and 2 blocks in only 4 minutes. Makarenko is one of the most experienced players in a team as it's his fifth year in DCU Saints' roster. He has averaged so far 7.8ppg, 7.2rpg, 2.5apg, 1.1bpg and 2.0spg in 13 games.

   #5. Aksels Skaistlauks (195-SG-97, currently plays in Germany) was not able to help Tuebingen II (7-11) in their last game. Despite Skaistlauks' very good performance Tuebingen II (#10) was edged 101-98 on their home court in Tuebingen by the lower-ranked (#12) Kaiserslautern in the South-West group. He was the second best scorer with 18 points in 20 minutes. It was Tuebingen II's first loss after four consecutive victories. Skaistlauks has averaged so far 5.5ppg and 1.4rpg in 17 games.

American Damier Pitts (177-PG-89) had an amazing evening in the last round for league's second-best Valmiera and that's him to receive a Eurobasket.com Player of the Week award for round 26. The 27-year old playmaker had the game-high 24 points adding two rebounds and six assists for Valmiera in his team's victory, helping them to crush Barons Riga (#5, 12-12) with 18-point margin 80-62.
