Eighth-ranked Limbazi (5-12) made lots of trouble for seventh ranked RSU (9-8) in Riga on Friday. RSU managed to secure only two-point victory 85-83. However their fans expected easier game. The hosts trailed by 2 points after three quarters before their 22-18 charge, which allowed them to win the game. RSU looked well-organized offensively handing out 21 assists. Point guard Ivars Ikstens (183-90) fired 24 points, 6 assists and 4 steals for the winners. Guard Aleksis-Valts Putnins (190-94) chipped in 20 points, 6 rebounds and 5 assists. RSU's coach Aivars Vinbergs used a ten-player rotation in such tough game. point guard Armands Osins (190-91) produced 30 points and 4 assists for lost side. RSU moved-up to fifth place. Limbazi lost fifth consecutive game. They keep the eighth position with 12 games lost. Both teams do not play next round, which will be an opportunity for some rest.

Worth to mention a great performance of American point guard Michael Panaggio (183, college: Lander) who helped to win the game recording 15 points, 5 rebounds, 7 assists and 5 steals. Maris Baranovskis contributed with 10 points and 6 rebounds for the winners. Gulbenes Buki's coach Arturs Brunins felt very confident that he used 11 players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Forward Armands Senkans (200-90) answered with 14 points and 8 rebounds for Marupe. Gulbenes Buki maintains eleventh place with 2-14 record. Marupe at the other side dropped to the sixth position with nine games lost. Gulbenes Buki will play against higher ranked Jelgava (#3) at home in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. Marupe will have a break next round.
The game with biggest result difference took place in Madona. Local Madona (7-5) outscored 20th ranked Riga/Ridzene (1-10) 114-73 on Friday night. Martin Barrett stepped up and scored 36 points (!!!) and 5 assists for the winners. Coach Agnis Bekeris's team controlled all game and the coach could let to play 10 players and allowed the starting five to rest. At the losing side Kristaps Vitolins responded with 24 points. Madona moved-up to seventeenth place. Riga/Ridzene lost sixth consecutive game. Riga/Ridzene at the other side, also newcomer in the league, keeps the twentieth position with ten games lost. Madona will meet higher ranked VEF skola (#15) in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. Riga/Ridzene will play against DSN/SB (#14) and hope to win that game.
Another exciting game was a derby match between two teams from Riga: LU/BS Riga (#16) and VEF skola (#14). VEF skola was crushed at home by 16 points 76-92 and even the advantage of their own court did not help. It ended at the same time the three-game winning streak of VEF skola. Ricards Melderis nailed 20 points, 9 rebounds and 6 assists for the winning side. VEF skola's coach rotated ten players seeing no chance for a win. LU/BS Riga have a solid series of four victories in a row. They maintain sixteenth place with 7-3 record. VEF skola at the other side dropped to the fifteenth position with five games lost. LU/BS Riga's supporters look forward to an exciting derby game next round, where their team will travel locally in Riga to the arena .

In the last two games of round 13 Livani was defeated by ViA in Valmiera 92-80. RTU was smashed by Jelgava at home 75-97.
The best stats of 13th round was 21 points and 6 rebounds by Davis Klegeris of LU/BS Riga.

Gulbenes Buki - Marupe 79-52

We should mention about the upset which took place in Riga, where higher ranked Marupe (9-9) was outleveled in a road game by eleventh ranked Gulbenes Buki (2-14) 79-52. The game without a history. Gulbenes Buki led from the first minutes and controlled entire game increasing their lead in each quarter. They dominated on the defensive end, holding Marupe to just 7 points in first quarter. Gulbenes Buki dominated down low during the game scoring 50 of its points in the paint compared to Marupe's 14. Gulbenes Buki forced 21 Marupe turnovers. Worth to mention a great performance of American point guard Michael Panaggio (183, college: Lander) who helped to win the game recording 15 points, 5 rebounds, 7 assists and 5 steals. There was no surprise in Valmiera where 11th ranked Livani (1-14) was defeated by fourth ranked ViA (13-4) 92-80. The game without a history. ViA led from the first minutes and controlled entire game increasing their lead in each quarter. Their players were unselfish on offense dishing 21 assists. ViA brought some defensive toughness making 8 blocks. Forward Janis Engers (200-95) nailed 18 points, 8 rebounds and 4 assists for the winning side and point guard Valters Veveris (188-0) accounted for 23 points. Guard Daumants Pabrieza (183-87) came up with 27 points and forward Aigars Strelis (200-87) added 16 points and 9 rebounds respectively for Livani in the defeat. No shocking result in a game in Riga where third ranked Jelgava (14-4) smashed 9th ranked RTU (4-13) 97-75. RTU was tied at the half but could not keep up in last two quarters eventually losing the game. Jelgava made 23-of-30 charity shots (76.7 percent) during the game. They also forced 20 RTU turnovers. Their players were unselfish on offense dishing 35 assists comparing to just 14 passes made by RTU's players. 27 personal fouls committed by RTU helped opponents get some easy free throw opportunities. Guard Gatis Justovics (184-87) nailed a double-double by scoring 14 points, 7 rebounds, 10 assists and 5 steals for the winning side and swingman Edgars Krumins (194-86) accounted for 17 points, 8 rebounds and 6 assists. Jelgava had such big advantage that coach felt comfortable to give the chance to play for 10 players saving starting five for next games. Power forward Karlis Helmanis (199-97) came up with a double-double by scoring 15 points and 10 rebounds and swingman Lauris Berzins (192-97) added 18 points respectively for RTU in the defeat. Both teams had four players each who scored in double figures. Jelgava have an impressive series of eight victories in a row. They maintain third place with 14-4 record having just five point less than leader Turiba. RTU at the other side keeps the ninth position with 13 games lost.
