The most important game in the last round took place in Riga between third ranked Jekabpils (12-10) and seventh ranked Barons Riga (10-10) on Sunday night. Jekabpils were defeated by Barons Riga in a tough game on the road 66-71. The hosts took control from the first minutes by winning first half. But Jekabpils won fourth quarter 23-19. However it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. Barons Riga made 16-of-21 free shots (76.2 percent) during the game. Great defensive blocking was one of the keys in this match when Barons Riga made 8 blocks. 24 personal fouls committed by Jekabpils helped opponents get some easy free throw opportunities. American guard Tyler Larson (190-91, college: S.Dakota) had a double-double by scoring 25 points and 10 rebounds to lead the charge for the winners and center Davis Rozitis (215-90, college: Hawaii) chipped in 11 points and 8 rebounds during the contest. At the losing side the former international point guard Rinalds Sirsnins (186-85) responded with 16 points and 4 assists. Jekabpils' coach Rudolfs Rozitis tried various players' combinations and tested in total eleven players in this game, but that didn't help. Barons Riga moved-up to fifth place. Jekabpils at the other side keep the third position with ten games lost. Both teams do not play next round, which will be an opportunity for some rest.
Very important is a home loss of second ranked Valmiera (14-8) against fourth ranked VEF Riga (11-2) on Wednesday night. Host Valmiera was defeated by VEF Riga in a tough game in Valmiera 90-95. American guard Kris Richard (196-89, college: Tulane) notched 22 points, 5 rebounds and 5 assists to lead the effort and Mareks Mejeris supported him with 17 points and 10 rebounds. VEF Riga's coach Janis Gailitis allowed to play the deep bench players in such tough game. Even 17 points and 9 assists by American point guard Damier Pitts (177-89, college: Marshall) did not help to save the game for Valmiera. VEF Riga maintains fourth position with 11-2 record. Defending champion Valmiera keeps the second place with eight games lost. VEF Riga will have a break next round, and it should allow them to practice more before next game. Valmiera will play at home against Liepaja/Triobet and hopes to get back on the winning track.
LBL top team - Ventspils (19-2) had no problems winning another game on Saturday. This time they crushed ninth ranked Latvijas Universitate (5-19) 96-60. Ingus Jakovics fired 19 points, 5 rebounds, 6 assists and 7 steals for the winners. Linards Jaunzems produced 18 points, 5 rebounds and 6 assists for lost side. Ventspils have a solid four-game winning streak. They maintain first position with 19-2 record. Loser Latvijas Universitate keeps the ninth place with 19 games lost. Ventspils will meet Jurmala (#7) on the road in the next round where they are favorite. Latvijas Universitate will have a break next round.

Worth to mention a great performance of Maris Gulbis who helped to win the game recording 22 points and 7 rebounds (on 10-of-13 shooting from the field). Both coaches used bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Ventspils have a solid four-game winning streak. They maintain first position with 19-2 record. Liepaja/Triobet at the other side dropped to the sixth place with 12 games lost. Ventspils' next round opponent will be Jurmala (#7) on the road where they are favorite. Liepaja/Triobet will play against the league's second-placed Valmiera and hope to win that game.

Valmiera's coach Uvis Helmanis used a ten-player rotation and allowed the starting five to rest. Defending champion maintains second position with 14-8 record having four points less than leader Ventspils. Loser BK Ogre keeps the eighth place with 13 games lost. Valmiera will face Liepaja/Triobet (#6) at home in the next round. BK Ogre's supporters look forward to an exciting derby game next round, where their team will face at home their local rival from Ogre BK Ogre.

There were no shocking results in the other games in round 22: Liepaja/Triobet won against Jurmala on the opponent's court 95-81. LU was outscored by BK Ogre in a home game 60-81. Barons Riga managed to beat Jurmala on the road 76-71. Jekabpils crushed Valka/Valga on its own court 94-62.

The game in Ogre supposed to be also quite interesting. Second ranked Valmiera (14-8) played at the court of 8th ranked BK Ogre (8-13). Valmiera did not have too big problems ending evening with a very confident victory 97-79 on Saturday. The game without a history. Valmiera led from the first minutes and controlled entire game increasing their lead in each quarter. They made 23-of-30 free shots (76.7 percent) during the game. Valmiera looked well-organized offensively handing out 27 assists. BK Ogre was plagued by 24 personal fouls down the stretch. The former international center Lauris Blaus (208-90) scored 25 points, 8 rebounds and 4 assists (on 9-of-10 shooting from the field) to lead the charge for the winners and American point guard Damier Pitts (177-89, college: Marshall) chipped in 15 points and 7 assists during the contest. Worth to mention Pitts played also at Eurobasket Summer League, which helped get the job in pro basketball. Very important is a home loss of second ranked Valmiera (14-8) against fourth ranked VEF Riga (11-2) on Wednesday night. Host Valmiera was defeated by VEF Riga in a tough game in Valmiera 90-95. Valmiera was ahead by 4 points at the halftime before a 50-41 second half run of VEF Riga. They shot the lights out from three nailing 12 long-distance shots on high 52.2 percentage. VEF Riga players were unselfish on offense dishing 23 assists. American guard Kris Richard (196-89, college: Tulane) notched 22 points, 5 rebounds and 5 assists to lead the effort and international forward Mareks Mejeris (208-91, agency: Players Group) supported him with 17 points and 10 rebounds. Richard is a former Eurobasket Summer League player, which is considered top summer league for players who want to play basketball overseas. VEF Riga's coach Janis Gailitis allowed to play the deep bench players in such tough game. Even 17 points and 9 assists by American point guard Damier Pitts (177-89, college: Marshall) did not help to save the game for Valmiera. His fellow American import guard Ashton Mitchell (183-88, college: Sam Houston St., agency: Mansfield and Associates) added 9 points and 7 assists for lost side. Five VEF Riga and four Valmiera players scored in double figures. VEF Riga maintains fourth position with 11-2 record. Defending champion Valmiera keeps the second place with eight games lost. VEF Riga will have a break next round, and it should allow them to practice more before next game. Valmiera will play at home against Liepaja/Triobet and hopes to get back on the winning track.

Jekabpils - Valka/Valga 94-62

Everything went according to plan when third ranked Jekabpils (12-10) outscored at home bottom-ranked Valka/Valga (3-12) 94-62 on Wednesday. The game was mostly controlled by Jekabpils. Valka/Valga was better in fourth quarter 15-14. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. They outrebounded Valka/Valga 46-31 including a 18-4 advantage in offensive rebounds. Jekabpils looked well-organized offensively handing out 22 assists. Valka/Valga was plagued by 28 personal fouls down the stretch. The former international point guard Rinalds Sirsnins (186-85) scored 18 points and 6 assists to lead the charge for the winners and the former international center Jurijs Aleksejevs (202-85) chipped in 11 points and 11 rebounds during the contest. Four Jekabpils players scored in double figures. At the losing side Estonian center Rain Raadik (208-89) responded with 17 points and 7 rebounds (on 7-of-9 shooting from the field) and Ivars-Rihards Zvigurs (198-95) scored 19 points. The winner was already known earlier in the game, so both coaches allowed to play the bench players saving starting five for next games. Jekabpils maintains third position with 12-10 record having six points less than leader Ventspils. Valka/Valga lost eighth consecutive game. They stay at the bottom place with 12 games lost. Both teams do not play next round, which will be an opportunity for some rest.
