The most crucial game of the last round was the first loss of Turiba (17-1) on the court of second ranked Kekava on Tuesday night. Visitors were defeated by Kekava 86-77. It ended at the same time the 23-game winning streak of Turiba. It may be a crucial game in the contest for the top position in the league. The hosts were tied at the half but managed to speed up in last two quarters eventually winning the game. Forward Nauris Miezis (189-91) orchestrated the victory by scoring 40 points (!!!) and 7 rebounds. Forward Niks Saknitis (203-92) contributed with 12 points and 11 rebounds for the winners. point guard Elvis Endzels (188-94) replied with 22 points, 5 rebounds and 7 assists for Turiba. Turiba's coach Ziedonis Jansons rotated ten players in this game, but that didn't help. Kekava (16-1) have an impressive five-game winning streak. Newly promoted Kekava maintains second position having just 3 victories less than leader Turiba. Turiba at the other side still keeps top place with one game lost. Kekava are looking forward to face ViA (#4) in Valmiera in the next round. Turiba will play on the road against Jelgava and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
Bottom-ranked BJBS Riga is still unable to win any game. This time they lost on the road their 11th consecutive match to fourteenth ranked DSN/SB (10-4) 78-64. Forward Janis Gertners (206-99) had a double-double by scoring 16 points and 15 rebounds to lead the charge for the winners and Kristaps Salmins chipped in 15 points during the contest. DSN/SB's coach Martins Fomins allowed to play the deep bench players saving starting five for next games. Guard Ingus Lapans (196-98) responded with 23 points and 4 assists. DSN/SB maintains fourteenth position with 10-4 record. BJBS Riga at the other side still closes the standings with 11 games lost. DSN/SB will have a break next round, and it should allow them to practice more before next game. BJBS Riga will play against Madona (#15) and hopes to get finally their first victory.

There were no big surprises in other games of round 14: DSN/SB beat Riga/Ridzene on the road 91-80. Gulbenes Buki lost to Jelgava on its own court 77-87. Madona managed to outperform VEF skola in a road game 94-82.

Riga/Ridzene - DSN/SB 80-91

No shocking result in a game when fourteenth ranked DSN/SB (10-4) beat on the road 20th ranked Riga/Ridzene (1-11) 91-80. The game was mostly controlled by DSN/SB. Riga/Ridzene was better in second period 21-18. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. The game was decided in the last minutes when DSN/SB won last quarter 30-20. They dominated down low during the game scoring 56 of its points in the paint compared to Riga/Ridzene's 36. DSN/SB forced 19 Riga/Ridzene turnovers and outrebounded them 47-30 including a 23-9 advantage in offensive rebounds. Their players were unselfish on offense dishing 23 assists. Guard Kristaps Salmins (192-98) scored 40 points (!!!) and 7 steals to lead the charge for the winners and guard Niks Salenieks (180-0) chipped in 19 points, 6 rebounds and 6 assists during the contest. Guard Karlis Ozolins (191-98) responded with 19 points, 6 rebounds and 7 assists and guard Kristaps Bremers (175-98) scored 24 points and 5 rebounds. Four Riga/Ridzene players scored in double figures. Both coaches used bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. DSN/SB maintains fourteenth position with 10-4 record. Riga/Ridzene lost seventh consecutive game. Newly promoted team keeps the twentieth place with 11 games lost. Both teams do not play next round, which will be an opportunity for some rest.

Very expected game when 11th ranked Gulbenes Buki (2-15) lost to third ranked Jelgava (15-4) in Riga 77-87. The guests were ahead by 1 point but lost the second period ending it with a 3-point deficit before their 24-11 run, which allowed them to win the game. Swingman Edgars Krumins (194-86) scored 29 points, 5 rebounds and 6 assists to lead the charge for the winners and guard Kalvis Krumins (185-90) chipped in 11 points, 11 rebounds and 4 assists during the contest. Four Jelgava players scored in double figures. American point guard Michael Panaggio (183, college: Lander) responded with 23 points, 6 rebounds and 6 assists and center Maris Baranovskis (198-79) scored 4 points and 8 rebounds. Jelgava have an impressive nine-game winning streak. They maintain third position with 15-4 record having just seven point less than leader Turiba. Gulbenes Buki at the other side keeps the eleventh place with 15 games lost. Jelgava will play against league's leader Turiba at home in the next round and it will be for sure the game of the week. Gulbenes Buki will play against Ogre/Kumho Tyre (#7) and hopes to get back on the winning track.

They also forced 19 BJBS Riga turnovers and outrebounded them 50-29 including a 19-5 advantage in offensive rebounds. VEF skola - Madona 82-94

There was a small surprise when seventeenth ranked Madona (8-5) won against 15th ranked VEF skola (8-6) in Riga 94-82. It looked good early as VEF skola took a 1-point small lead at the end of first quarter. But then Madona had a 26-18 second period charge getting the lead and VEF skola was not able to take back game control losing it eventually 82-94. Madona forced 28 VEF skola turnovers. Their players were unselfish on offense dishing 27 assists. American swingman Martin Barrett (196, college: Mount Olive) had a triple-double by scoring 29 points, 10 rebounds, 12 assists and 4 steals (was perfect 7-for-7 from the free throw line) to lead the charge for the winners and power forward Arturs Skute (202-86) chipped in 22 points and 10 rebounds during the contest. Barrett is a former Eurobasket Summer League player, which is considered top international summer league in the market. Guard Oskars Hlebovickis (197-0) responded with 19 points, 7 rebounds, 5 assists and 4 steals and guard Rainers Hermanovskis (188-0) scored 11 points, 8 rebounds and 6 assists. Both teams had four players each who scored in double figures. Both coaches used bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Madona moved-up to fifteenth place. VEF skola at the other side dropped to the sixteenth position with six games lost. Madona will play against bottom-ranked BJBS Riga (#21) at home in the next round where they are favorite. VEF skola will have a break next round.
