   #1. This week's number one is an international center Anzejs Pasecniks (216-95, college: VEF skola, currently plays in Spain). He was the major contributor in a Gran Canaria's victory against the second-ranked Real Madrid (15-5) 93-81 in the Spanish Liga Endesa in Sunday night's game. Pasecniks recorded 16 points and grabbed 4 rebounds in 21 minutes on the court. Herbalife Gran Canaria (13-8) is placed seventh in the Liga Endesa. It was his team's third consecutive victory in a row. This year Pasecniks averages: 8.0ppg, 3.3rpg, 2FGP: 65.3%(62-95), 3FGP: 66.7% and FT: 60.5% in 21 games he played so far. He is currently a member of the Latvian senior national team.

   #2. Second place goes to an international swingman Zanis Peiners (203-90, currently plays in Basketball Champions League). Peiners led his Greek team PAOK to a victory against the closely-ranked Partizan (8-6) 82-78 in the Basketball Champions League last Wednesday. He scored 15 points and grabbed 6 rebounds (was perfect 8-for-8 from the free throw line). PAOK Thessaloniki (7-7) is placed fourth in group C. It's Peiners' first season with the team. Peiners' overall stats this year are: 8.9ppg, 3.5rpg, 2FGP: 51.6%, 3FGP: 18.4%. He is in the roster of the Latvian senior national team.

   #3. The Latvian player who performed third best last week abroad was an international power forward Kristaps Porzingis (221-95, currently plays in NBA). Porzingis led New York Knicks to a victory over the Orlando Magic (22-39) 101-90 in the NBA on Wednesday night. He was MVP of the game. Porzingis scored 20 points and grabbed 9 rebounds in 33 minutes. The New York Knicks have 25-36 record this season. Porzingis has individually a very good year with high stats. He averages: 18.2ppg, 7.1rpg, 1.3apg, 1.9bpg, 2FGP: 48.2%, 3FGP: 37.7% and FT: 78.3% in 51 games. Porzingis is also a member of the Latvian senior national team.

   #4. Small forward Janis Timma (201-92, currently plays in VTB United League) contributed to an easy victory against the eighth-ranked Enisey (8-10) 94-78 in the VTB United League in Saturday night's game. He recorded 13 points. Zenit Saint Petersburg (15-3) is placed second in the VTB United League. It was his team's ninth consecutive victory in a row. Timma has relatively good stats this season: 13.9ppg, 3.8rpg, 2.8apg and 1.4spg. He is also Latvian national team player.

   #5. International shooting guard Dairis Bertans (194-89, currently plays in Euroleague). Bertans could not help Darussafaka (11-12) to beat Real Madrid (18-6). He scored 9 points and added 6 assists in 29 minutes. But the ninth-placed Darussafaka (11-12) was badly defeated 101-83 on the road by the leading Real Madrid in the group A of Euroleague. This year Bertans' overall stats are: 7.3ppg and 1.6apg in 23 games. He plays currently for the Latvian national team.

   #6. Power forward Rolands Smits (207-95, currently plays in Spain) was not able to help Baloncesto Fuenlabrada (9-12) in their last game on Sunday. Despite Smits' good performance Baloncesto Fuenlabrada was crushed 85-61 in Tenerife by the leading CB Canarias. He recorded 11 points and grabbed 5 rebounds. Smits' total stats this season are: 8.0ppg and 3.6rpg. He is an international player who is currently on the senior Latvian National Team roster.

   #7. International power forward Ojars Silins (203-93, currently plays in FIBA Europe Cup) contributed to a Telekom Baskets' victory against the closely-ranked Joensuun Kataja 88-84 in the FIBA Europe Cup in Wednesday night's game. Silins scored 9 points and blocked 3 shots in 25 minutes. It was the game of the round between two top 2 ranked teams in group M. Telekom Baskets Bonn (5-1) is placed first. This year Silins has relatively solid stats: 12.0ppg and 2.7rpg in 12 games. He is also Latvian national team player.

   #8. Power forward Rolands Freimanis (208-88, agency: Alti Sport, currently plays in FIBA Europe Cup) helped his Turkish team Usak Sportlif win their game against the seventh-ranked Oradea crushing them 108-82 in the FIBA Europe Cup last Wednesday. Freimanis scored 10 points and blocked 2 shots. Muratbey Usak Sportlif Basketbolis placed third in group Q. Freimanis has reliable stats this season: 13.0ppg and 3.0rpg. He plays currently for the Latvian national team.

   #9. International power forward Kaspars Berzins (213-85, currently plays in EuroCup) helped his Russian team Lokomotiv win their game against the closely-ranked Zenit (3-3) crushing them 75-52 in the Eurocup on Tuesday night. Berzins recorded 6 points in only 5 minutes. It was his first game for Lokomotiv this season. It was the game of the round between two top 4 ranked teams. His team is placed first in the Eurocup. Berzins is also in the roster of the Latvian national team.

   #10. Forward Ernests Kalve (200-87, agency: HMS, currently plays in Romania) helped Targu Mures win their game against the fourth-ranked Pitesti (9-9) 93-77 in the Romanian Liga Nationala in Saturday night's game. He recorded 12 points and grabbed 8 rebounds. BC Mures Targu-Mures (8-10) is placed fourth in Places 7-10 group. They ended the series of three consecutive loses. Kalve's team will play only one more game in the Regular Season. And that game will be critical. Kalve averaged so far 10.6ppg, 4.7rpg and 1.1apg. He is a former international player as seven years ago he still played for the Latvian senior national team.

   #11. Former U20 international small forward Ivars Rihards Zvigurs (198-95, currently plays in Estonia) was not able to secure a victory for Valga (6-15) in their last game. Despite Zvigurs' good performance Valga was badly defeated 85-69 in Tartu by the leading Ulikool. He was the top scorer with 14 points. Zvigurs also added 6 rebounds in 33 minutes. Zvigurs averaged so far 13.8ppg, 6.0rpg, 1.8apg and 1.6spg in 21 games. He used to play for the Latvian U20 national team two years ago.

   #12. An experienced former international guard Edmunds Gabrans (188-79, currently plays in Norway) was the main contributor in a Froya Basket's victory against the closely-ranked Nidaros Jets crushing them 96-74 in the Norwegian BLNO on Saturday night. Gabrans was the best player in that game. He recorded 21 points. Gabrans averaged so far 13.5ppg, 4.3rpg, 4.3apg and 1.5spg. He used to play for the Latvian national team back in 2002.

   #13. Former international small forward Rihards Kuksiks (197-88, also represented by HMS, college: Arizona St., currently plays in France) couldn't help Nantes (10-9) in their last game. Despite Kuksiks' very good performance Nantes lost 72-80 in Bourg to the leading JL Bourg. He was the top scorer with 18 points in 24 minutes. Kuksiks averaged so far 12.2ppg, 2.7rpg and 1.3apg in six games. He used to play for the Latvian national team four years ago.

   #14. Former U20 international point guard Reno Silavs (180-91, currently plays in Norway) is a teammate of previously mentioned Edmunds Gabrans. But that was another game of his team in Norwegian BLNO which we would like to mention. Silavs couldn't help one of league's weakest teams Froya Basket (16-10) in their last game on Wednesday. Despite his very good performance Froya Basket was crushed 93-72 in Bergen by the higher-ranked Gimle BBK (#3). Silavs was the top scorer with 20 points. He also added 3 assists. Silavs averaged so far 12.4ppg, 2.6rpg, 4.0apg and 1.4spg. He used to play for the Latvian U20 national team back in 2011.

   #15. International guard Davis Lejasmeiers (192-91, currently plays in Sweden) helped Sodertalje Kings win their game against the league leader BC Lulea 82-67 in the Swedish Basketligan on Friday night. Lejasmeiers scored 8 points, grabbed 5 boards, passed 8 assists and added 3 steals in 32 minutes. Lejasmeiers averaged so far 10.5ppg, 2.8rpg and 4.4apg in 24 games. He is also in the roster of the Latvian national team.


The list of other players, who all have Latvian passport but never been selected to any of Latvian national teams:

   #1. Rihards Sulcs (191-F-87, currently plays in United Kingdom) led Dragons to a victory over the closely-ranked Riders (13-8) 99-86 in the British NBL D1 (second division) last Sunday. Sulcs was the top player that evening. He recorded a double-double by scoring 25 points and getting 10 rebounds. Sulcs also added 5 assists. Bradford Dragons (11-10) is placed seventh in the NBL D1. It was his team's first victory after three consecutive loses. Sulcs is one of the most experienced players in a team as it's his sixth year in Dragons' roster. He has individually a very good season with high stats. Sulcs averages: 18.9ppg, 7.2rpg, 3.9apg and 2.4spg.

   #2. Martins Provizors (202-C-87, currently plays in Ireland) could not help one of league's weakest teams one of league's weakest teams DCU Saints (6-13) in their last game. Despite his very good performance DCU Saints lost 86-96 on the road to the higher-ranked (#8) Belfast Star. Provizors had a double-double by scoring 20 points and getting 24 rebounds in only a mere 7 minutes. It was DCU Saints' third consecutive loss in a row. There are only three games left until the end of the Regular Season. So now every game will be critical. Provizors has very impressive stats this year: 20.2ppg, 16.6rpg, 2.8apg and 1.4bpg in 17 games he played so far.

   #3. Alvis Eglitis (195-F-85, currently plays in Norway) contributed to an easy victory against the league outsider Persbraten (2-24) crushing them 89-67 in the Norwegian BLNO last Wednesday. He scored 6 points and grabbed 7 rebounds. Asker Aliens BC (13-14) is placed sixth in the BLNO. The Regular Season already ended. Eglitis is one of the most experienced players in a team as it's his fourth year in Asker Aliens' roster. Eglitis' total stats this season are: 9.9ppg, 10.6rpg, 1.5apg and 1.5spg.

Emanuel Ubilla (ex ZTE KK) joins Ventspils - 17 hours ago
BK Ventspils (LBL) agreed terms with 31-year old American (has also Puerto Rican passport) point guard Emanuel Ubilla (188-86, college: Fair Dickinson, agency: Court Side). He played last season at Zalakeramia-ZTE KK in Hungarian A Division. In 45 games he had very impressive stats: 17.5ppg, 4.8rpg, 8.1apg (leader !!!) and 1.3spg. AE Doxa Lefkadas (A2) agreed terms with 27-year old Latvian center Davis Rozitis (215-109kg-90, college: Hawaii). He played last season at Barons Riga in Latvian LBL league. In 25 games he had 10.0ppg, 7.8rpg, 1.5apg, 1.0spg and 1.2bpg. Rozitis helped them to make it to the semifinals. Quite impressive season as he was named to Eurobasket.com All-Latvian League Honorable Mention. BK Ogre (LBL) confirmed in their roster 25-year old point guard Marcis Vitols (183-88kg-92). He has played there for the last two seasons. In 30 LBL games he had 9.8ppg, 2.7rpg, 4.9apg and 1.0spg last season. Vitols also played 11 games in Baltic League where he recorded 10.5ppg, 2.6rpg, 3.3apg and 1.1spg. The list of the past achievements is quite long as among others his team made it to the League Semifinals in 2012.
