Fourth-ranked VEF Riga (11-3) used its home court advantage to challenge first ranked Ventspils (21-2) on Saturday. The visitors from Ventspils managed to secure only three-point victory 80-77. However their fans expected easier game. It ended at the same time the two-game winning streak of VEF Riga. The guests trailed by 1 point at the halftime before their 22-17 charge in the third quarter, which allowed them to win the game. 24 personal fouls committed by VEF Riga helped opponents get some easy free throw opportunities. It was a good game for American-Bulgarian point guard Willie Deane (188-80, college: Purdue, agency: Higher Vision Sports) who led his team to a victory with 13 points. The former international forward Kristaps Janicenoks (196-83) contributed with 13 points for the winners. Ventspils' coach Karlis Muiznieks used a ten-player rotation in such tough game.
