Jurijs
Aleksejevs
31-year old center Jurijs Aleksejevs (202-C-85) had a great game in the last round for Jekabpils and receives a Eurobasket.com Player of the Week award for round 24.
He had a double-double of 27 points and 14 rebounds, while his team beat Valmiera (#2, 15-9) 86-72. The game was between two of the league's top four teams. Jekabpils maintains the 3rd position in Latvian league. Jekabpils is a typical solid league team placed somewhere in the middle or a little bit lower in the standings. They need more victories to improve their 13-11 record. In the team's last game Aleksejevs had a remarkable 85.7% from 2-point range and got four three-pointers out of 6 attempts. He turned to be Jekabpils' top player in his first season with the team. Aleksejevs has impressive league stats. He is in league's top in rebounds (7th best: 7.4rpg) and averages solid 51.9% FGP.

Second best performed player last round was Davis Rozitis (215-C-90) of Barons Riga. He is a center in his first season at Barons Riga. In the last game Rozitis recorded impressive double-double of 17 points and 14 rebounds. Of course he led Barons Riga to another comfortable win 98-79 over the lower-ranked Valka/Valga (#10, 3-13) being unquestionably team leader. Barons Riga's 5th position in the standings has not changed. His team lost some distance to top teams. But 11-10 record is not bad and everything may still change. Rozitis is one of the most experienced players at Barons Riga and has a reputation of one of team's most reliable players. Former University of Hawaii star Rozitis is a former Eurobasket Summer League player, which is considered top international summer league in the market.

Third place about best performers goes to guard Malcolm Griffin (193-G-91, agency: Promotex) of Liepaja/Triobet (#6). Griffin showcased his all-around game by recording 14 points, eleven rebounds (!!!) and eleven assists (!!!) in the last round. He was a key player of Liepaja/Triobet, leading his team to a 106-82 easy win against the lower-ranked LU (#9, 5-20). The chances of Liepaja/Triobet ranking at the top of the league, however are very questionable as they have already lost 13 games, recording just eleven victories. With bigger assistance of his teammates, Griffin could help Liepaja/Triobet to bring them higher in the standings. Griffin has a great season in Latvia. After 12 games, he made it on the list of the league's leaders in points with 16.3ppg (2nd best) and assists with 7.8apg (best passer). He also has 2.6spg and FGP: 52.0%.

Other top performing players last week:
4. Rain Raadik (208-C-89) of Valka/Valga - 13 points, 15 rebounds and 2 assists
5. Tyler Larson (190-G-91) of Barons Riga - 21 points, 5 rebounds and 10 assists
6. Edgars Lasenbergs (189-G-95) of LU - 22 points, 4 rebounds and 2 assists
7. Damier Pitts (177-PG-89) of Valmiera - 25 points and 4 assists
8. Denis Krestinin (202-F-94) of Barons Riga - 8 points and 16 rebounds
9. Arturs Duselis (201-F-89) of Jurmala - 14 points and 8 rebounds
10. Andrejs Selakovs (207-C-88) of Jekabpils - 14 points and 11 rebounds

The Player of the week is chosen based on efficiency calculation, but also including game result, importance of the game, if played recorded double-double/triple-double, etc.
The efficiency formula is a combination of various formulas used by different basketball organizations/leagues. We got involved many basketball scouts and journalists to assure it's accuracy.
The formula: 1.5*PTS + 3* (REB+AST+ST+BL-TO) - 2*BSAG - 4*PF + 3*PFRV + 4* (2FGPM+3FGPM) + 1.5*FTM - 3* (2FGPA-2FGPM) - 3* (3FGPA-3FGPM) - (FTA-FTM)
