The Second Stage in LBL2 just ended.

We should mention about the upset which took place in Riga, where higher ranked Limbazi (6-16) lost to twelfth ranked Gulbenes Buki (4-18) in a road game 74-84 on Saturday. The game was mostly controlled by Gulbenes Buki. Limbazi managed to win fourth quarter 20-19. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. Gulbenes Buki dominated down low during the game scoring 60 of its points in the paint compared to Limbazi's 22. They outrebounded Limbazi 41-26 including 31 on the defensive glass. Gulbenes Buki looked well-organized offensively handing out 21 assists. Guard Nauris Rikveilis (189-94) fired 27 points, 6 rebounds and 5 assists for the winners. Center Roberts Mednis (205-89) chipped in 20 points and 11 rebounds. Guard Vents Veinbergs (188-93) produced 21 points, 7 rebounds and 4 assists for lost side. Gulbenes Buki maintains twelfth place with 4-18 record. Limbazi at the other side keeps the eighth position with 16 games lost. They share it with Saldus and RTU.

Arvids Dambenieks contributed with 23 points, 10 rebounds, 6 assists and 4 steals for the winners. Guard Aivars Dambis (183-0) answered with 22 points and 4 assists for BJBS Riga. LU/BS Riga have an impressive series of ten victories in a row. They maintain fourteenth place with 13-3 record. BJBS Riga lost fourth consecutive game. They keep the twentieth position with 15 games lost.

The best stats of 19th round was 18 points and 14 rebounds by Davids Ozolins of LU/BS Riga.

BJBS Riga - LU/BS Riga 79-100

Another exciting game was a derby match between two local teams from Riga: LU/BS Riga (#14) and BJBS Riga (#20). BJBS Riga was crushed at home by 21 points 79-100 and even the advantage of their own court did not help. The game was mostly controlled by LU/BS Riga. BJBS Riga managed to win third quarter 22-20. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. They made 17-of-21 free shots (81.0 percent) during the game. LU/BS Riga outrebounded BJBS Riga 52-34 including 17 on the offensive glass. It was a great evening for guard Davis Klegeris (184-97) who led his team to a victory with a double-double by scoring 21 points and 10 rebounds. Center Davids Ozolins (201-98) helped adding 18 points and 14 rebounds. Five LU/BS Riga players scored in double figures. At the losing side guard Niks Rimsans (185-99) responded with 17 points and 5 assists and forward Marcis Egle (185-99) scored 13 points and 5 rebounds. The victory was the tenth consecutive win for LU/BS Riga. They maintain fourteenth place with 13-3 record. BJBS Riga lost their fourth game in a row. They keep the twentieth position with 15 games lost.

LU/BS Riga forced 19 BJBS Riga turnovers and outrebounded them 59-39 including a 44-27 advantage in defensive rebounds. Their players were unselfish on offense dishing 25 assists. Worth to mention a great performance of guard Davis Klegeris (184-97) who helped to win the game recording 28 points, 5 rebounds and 8 assists. RTU - Turiba 85-94

There was no surprise in Riga where 11th ranked RTU (6-16) was defeated by second ranked Turiba (19-3) 94-85 on Friday. The guests trailed by 1 point at the halftime before their 52-42 charge in the second half, which allowed them to win the game. Turiba outrebounded RTU 49-32 including a 37-26 advantage in defensive rebounds. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 31 assists. It was a great evening for power forward Rihards Adins (200-94) who led his team to a victory with a double-double by scoring 25 points, 15 rebounds and 7 assists. Forward Elvijs Miculis (200-94) helped adding 15 points and 8 rebounds (perfect from the field making all seven shots !!!). Turiba's coach Ziedonis Jansons used an eleven-player rotation which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. At the losing side guard Nauris Bikovs (183-93) responded with 12 points, 8 rebounds and 6 assists and guard Martins Berzins (190-92) scored 24 points. Five RTU players scored in double figures. Turiba maintains second place with 19-3 record having just eleven point less than leader Kekava. Loser RTU dropped to the eighth position with 16 games lost. They share it with Limbazi and Saldus.
